Living Well with Hearing Loss (Includes Speech/Lip Reading)

This class is offered by ASU College of Health Solutions and is designed to help people overcome communication difficulties that have arisen as a result of hearing loss, and that may remain even after receiving hearing aids or a cochlear implant. The program is an interactive audiologic rehabilitation program which provides opportunities to learn solutions for maximizing your communication abilities, and tips for improving difficult listening situations that occur in everyday life. Topics include: Environmental management and assertiveness training, speechreading and auditory training, communication and coping strategies. Adults with any degree of hearing loss are encouraged to participate. Space is limited. Pre-registration required. COURSE

Create Happiness and Well-Being The Singing in the Rain workshop series was crafted by the Area Agency on Aging to help older adults learn how to create happiness and well-being in the midst of all that life demands and its inevitable surprises. The presentation facilitator uses scientifically proven strategies that will help you feel more positive, grateful, creative, and joyful. Using group interaction, participants will learn new skills to create p ­ ositive engagements in life, identify ways to increase happiness, and develop greater resilience. This project has been funded by Mercy M ­ aricopa ­Integrated Care. Developed by the Area Agency on Aging, Region One’s ElderVention Program. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required. COURSE

ACTIVITY CENTER

Diabetes can be tough to manage. If you have been diagnosed with diabetes or pre-diabetes, this workshop gives you an opportunity to help understand how to control diabetes and prevent long term problems. You will have an opportunity to get your questions answered as well as be updated on current ways to manage your diabetes successfully. Each class will focus on one of the seven key areas of diabetes management and provide suggestions and tools you can use to achieve better control and improve your quality of life. This class will not automatically make your diabetes better. What you learn and what you apply will help you control your diabetes better. Whether you are newly diagnosed or have had diabetes for years, this class can help. Areas covered: Healthy Eating, Being Active, Taking Medications, Monitoring, Problem Solving, Health Coping, and Reducing Risks. Space is limited. Pre-registration required.
