Mayor’s Youth Council Overview: The Fountain Hills Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC) is a group of high school students dedicated to learning about how local and state government bodies run as well as serving the community through volunteerism. Council members learn about leadership and the skills that they can learn to become leaders.

TOWN COUNCIL

What do we do? Council members share their perspective on youth issues by serving as liaisons to the Mayor, Town Council, and peers, as well as provide a variety of community service projects, including cleaning their own assigned street through the Adopt-a-Street program. Members also learn about the services provided by other organizations such as Rural Metro Fire Department, Maricopa County Sheriffs’ Office, local historians, artists and the Parks division. An overnight retreat, special dinners and social gatherings provide fun, too! How? Members meet twice monthly and accomplish their mission through volunteerism and civic education and participation as well as an annual field trip to the State Capitol while the Legislature is in session. They also provide leadership on Make a Difference Day, serve as a listening board to the youth in the community and provide the Mayor information from their perspective, promote a sense of civic involvement and community pride, and become positive role models through responsible leadership.

GRAND OPENING OF FOUR PEAKS PLAYGROUND ACTIVITY CENTER

The Four Peaks Playground will open on December 21, 2019 and is unlike any playground in town! It will feature two new play areas; one focused on 2-5 year olds, designed by Playcore Company as well as one for 5-12 year olds designed by Kompan. The Town was a recipient of several grants through these manufactures which helped offset 30-40% of costs. The tot area is designed with plenty of spaces for the little ones to explore, play bongos, and socialize, while also being challenged by the Jr. Ninja Warrior course. Don’t forget to say hello to Ribbit the Frog while visiting! The 5-12 year old area features some of the newest play structures available, including an exciting Double Zip Line. The large Emerido structure will challenge every level of climbing, hanging, balancing and coordination imaginable and features some fantastic gathering locations for socializing. This playground also has some of the coolest spinners around as well as a three bay swing set with two belt swings, two toddler swings, and a basket swing. Finally, the one of a kind CocoWave Pendulum Swing will have kids rocking and rolling. Keep your eyes out for future enhancements throughout the park as the Town looks to continue improvements over the next two years.
