FGCU used a dominant 2nd-half effort on Saturday night against Jacksonville to remain in sole possession of 1st place in the ASUN, one game clear of USC Upstate and Lipscomb. After holding a 36-33 halftime lead, the Eagles out-scored the Dolphins in the 2nd half, 42-23, en route to their 10th win in the last 11 games with a 78-56 decision over Jacksonville. FGCU leads the nation in points in the paint at 43.5 per game (2nd, Kentucky: 42.6) and is 4th in the country in field goal percentage at 51.6. Through its first seven ASUN games, the Eagles are out-scoring their opponents in the paint by an average of 46.6 to 25.6 per game.

Helping fuel that low-post production for FGCU is a re-emergence of Dunk City as the Eagles are averaging 4.9 dunks per game, surpassing the average of 4 per game thrown down by the original Dunk City Sweet Sixteen team in 2012-13. The Eagles already have 112 dunks this year, the most since that iconic 2012-13 squad threw down 148, and are coming off a season-best 12-dunk performance against Jacksonville.

1) FGCU has already set a program single-season record by having 11 games decided by five points or less, and the Eagles are 8-3 in those contests (previous record: 10 games). 2) The Eagles committed a season-low eight turnovers at North Florida last Wednesday and finished with a 21-11 edge in points off turnovers. 3) FGCU held Jacksonville to season lows in points (56), field goal made (18) and field goal percentage (32.7) in the win Saturday. 4) Marc-Eddy Norelia is 15 points shy of 1,000 for his career. He would become just the 7th player in program history to reach the milestone. 5) Demetris Morant scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed a career-high-tying 17 rebounds on Saturday versus Jacksonville.
