Brandon Goodwin hit the game-winning shot with 12 seconds remaining Tuesday night in Ruston, La., as FGCU handed Louisiana Tech just its third home loss in 74 games with a 79-78 decision. Goodwin leads the Eagles this year with 17 points per game, and is coming off consecutive 26-point outings. Through the first 13 games of the season, he has totaled 221 points – 20 more than what Marc-Eddy Norelia had at the same juncture last year when he set the program’s single-season scoring record with 597. Norelia did not travel with the team on its road trip to La Salle and LA Tech for personal reasons, and the Preseason All-ASUN selection’s status for Thursday’s contest is still uncertain. FGCU enters the game ranked 9th in the nation with a field goal percentage of 50.8. The program single-season record for field goal percentage was set last year (47.9). The Eagles are also 5th in the nation in 3-point percentage defense, limiting opponents to just 27.3 percent.

1) FGCU has made 23 3-pointers the last two games, the most triples in back-to-back games in the program’s non-conference Division-I history (previous record: 22). 2) If the Eagles win their final three non-conference games, they will set a D-I program record with 11 victories prior to ASUN action starting (record: 10 in 2014-15). 3) FGCU is in search of its 100th victory since the start of the 2012-13 season (99-54). Entering 2016-17, the Eagles had averaged just under 23 wins per season for the last four years. 4) FGCU has already won two games that have been decided by one point for the first time in single-season program history (three games total, tied with 2011-12 for the most). 5) Demetris Morant posted his fourth career double-double and second this year with a career-high 18 points and gamebest 12 rebounds at LA Tech.
