2017-18 PRESEASON FAVORITES
FGCU has won each of the past two ASUN tournaments – and three of the last five – and is installed this year as the preseason league favorites to repeat again with seven of eight 1st-place votes (63 points). Jacksonville was tabbed for a 7th-place finish with 21 points.
This is FGCU’s first-ever 8-0 start to an ASUN season, bettering the 4-0 mark set in 2015-16 ... the Eagles have won their first eight league games by an average of 17.4 points ... FGCU is riding a 10-game winning streak – tied for the 8th-longest in the nation and also tied for the longest in D-I program history (201415) ... the longest winning streak in program history is 14 in the D-II era (2003-04 and 2006-07) ... FGCU has won 10-straight ASUN road games dating back to the end of the 2015-16 season (3-0 this year after a perfect 7-0 mark last season). With a win, FGCU will create a three-game lead (four-game cushion with the tiebreakers) with only five regular-season games remaining ... FGCU hasn’t had a single game yet this season where all 12 scholarship players have been healthy/ eligible ... the Eagles have held four of their first eight ASUN opponents under 60 points ... in the other 24 league games played so far this year, only two teams on one occasion have held the opposition below 60: Jacksonville and NJIT.

TWEETABLES 5 Things To Know In 280 Or Less
1) FGCU will be looking for its 100th all-time ASUN win (99-81). After going just 33-61 in ASUN play from 2008-12, the Eagles are 66-20 since 2013. 2) The Eagles closed last Saturday’s 68-62 win over Jacksonville on an 8-0 run, holding the Dolphins scoreless over the final three minutes. 3) FGCU defeated UNF, 103-70, on Monday – the most points scored in program history versus an ASUN opponent. The Eagles (79.7 points per game) are on pace to set a D-I single-season program record. 4) The Eagles scored 66 points in the paint against UNF – the most ever against a D-I opponent. In the last four games, FGCU – which led the nation in points in the paint last year – has scored 210 paint points (52.5 per game). 5) The 33-point margin of victory over UNF was tied for the 2nd-largest in program history against an ASUN foe (record: 38 on Jan. 6 vs. Stetson, 90-52; complete list on Page 34).
