Tras La Mort de Louis XIV, Serra vuelve con otra provocativa pieza histórica, componente cinematográfico de un proyecto que comenzó como una obra teatral en Berlín y siguió como una instalación en Madrid. Liberté sigue a un grupo de aristócratas libidinosos, exiliados de la corte de Luis XVI, que se embarcan en una larga noche para concretar sus fantasías sexuales y explorar su filosofía del libertinaje. Serra adopta un enfoque warholiano sobre el sadismo y, si bien algo del sexo es explícito, la película resalta la interacción entre el exhibicionismo y el voyeurismo, lo visto y lo que no se ve, la lujuria y el tedio, mientras la fotografía de Artur Tort captura magistralmente los actos carnales en imágenes que recuerdan a los grandes cuadros neoclásicos y rococó de Watteau, Fragonard y Boucher. Liberté follows an ensemble of libidinous aristocrats, exiles from the court of Louis XVI, who embark on an extended night of woodland cruising to live out their sexual fantasies and explore their philosophy of libertinage. Estudió Filosofía y Literatura, escribió obras de teatro y produjo varios trabajos realizados en video. Sus películas se vieron en el Festival.
