Chained for Life
Mientras el debate alrededor de la autenticidad y la validez ética de ciertas representaciones en el cine está despertando nuevas polémicas, el segundo largometraje de Aaron Schimberg llega a ratificar que todavía queda mucho por plantearse, sumando una pila de preguntas incómodas pero necesarias. Y lo hace con tanta gracia y cariño por sus personajes que ningún aspecto desemboca en un esfuerzo panfletario o moralizante. Cuando la estrella de una película de terror lucha para poder conectar con su desfigurado coprotagonista, Schimberg dispone un complejo juego de espejos entre ficción y realidad sobre una industria que debe comenzar a lidiar responsablemente con las diferencias. El director se toma en serio lo que analiza, demostrando que tanto él como el actor Adam Pearson saben por experiencia propia lo que están contando.

While the debate around the authenticity and ethical validity of certain representations in cinema is awakening new controversies, Aaron Schimberg’s second feature length film has arrived to confirm that there is still much to consider, adding a pile of uncomfortable but necessary questions. And he raises them with such grace and kindness through his characters that none of it comes off as propagandistic or moralizing. When the star of a horror film struggles to be able to connect with her disfigured co-star, Schimberg lays out a complex game of mirrors between fiction and reality about an industry that should begin to deal responsibly with differences. The director takes seriously what he is analyzing, demonstrating that booth him and the actor Adam Pearson know through their own experience what they are talking about.
