— Wedding Story — Amie and Shannen P H OTO G R A P H E R RED FLANNEL P H OTO G R A P H Y Redflannelphotography.com
Originally from Georgian Bay, Ontario, Shannen came out west in 2011 looking for adventure. After spending a few years in Banff, AB, she found Fernie and quickly called it home. Amie is from Essex, England and came to Canada in 2014, also looking for adventure and good winter snow. Little did they know what else they would find here. “A mutual friend knew us separately and introduced us. It was Amie’s first day in town when we met, and we haven’t been apart since,” says Shannen.
Both Amie and Shannen have a passion for winter sports and camping. “I even successfully encouraged Amie to switch from skiing to snowboarding,” says Shannen. Their family grew by one when they adopted their
puppy, Gullie in 2017 and the adventurers grew from two to three!
“We decided to get married in Fernie because it is our home and we couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere but here, surrounded by these mountains and the Fernie love,” says Shannen. “We were overwhelmed by the amount of people who came across the globe to join us on our special day. We were very proud to show our friends and family the beauty that surrounds us every day.” Shannen being a local Nurse, and Amie head chef at Nevados, they both feel deeply connected to the community and wanted to ensure the wedding represented this connection and was close to their hearts. “It
was an easy decision to celebrate here,” they add. They held the wedding at the Bull River Guest Ranch. “Gina is a wonderful woman and it felt like she was family! The Ranch was extremely accommodating and she made us feel like we were the most important people in the world,” Shannen says. “The landscape was exactly what Amie and I dreamed of, it really was a dream wedding come true!” Their goal was to make the wedding as DIY as possible, and they felt as though the Bull River Guest Ranch fit this vision perfectly. They decided to use High Country Catering for a pig roast, which they felt suited the backcountry theme and budget. For photos, they went with Red Flannel Photography. “Randi was recommended to us by a friend, and we could 7

Q&A What is your favourite moment of your wedding day? Our favourite moment of the wedding day was playing lawn games for hours with everybody, Our friends all donated games and set them up, it was effortless fun! What advice would you give those planning their own wedding day?
Advice that we would give couples planning a wedding is to just be easy going, nothing is ever going to be perfect or exactly how you expected it. If you just go with the flow things might even turn out better than you expected. It certainly did for us. We did all of the finer details over the course of a year, collecting and saving, so there wasn’t a big rush near the end. We both kept saying that it felt too easy! Keeping things simple made for the perfect day. What were some unique elements to your wedding that really stand out things you tried to do differently?
not have been more pleased with the moments that she captured.” For flowers, they kept it super simple. Amie’s bouquet was made by the talented crew at the Green Petal, and they ordered baby’s breath for the mason jars that were on the dining tables. Shannen made her own bouquet from local greenery, wildflowers and feathers. A beautiful summer day and epic mountain views completed the celebration perfectly, congratulations, Amie and Shannen and thank you for sharing your story.
The unique elements were the simple decorations. A roll of burlap from Home Hardware, a few cases of mason jars, some wood rounds a friend cut up and cedar branches. We really loved how we made our music play list. We asked all of our guests to provide us with five songs with their RSVP. This made for a wicked playlist for dancing and lawn games! We also asked both sides of our family to wear something of a particular colour. Amie’s side wore yellow, and Shannen’s wore green. This made for awesome pictures and great conversation between our families that were meeting for the first time!

— Wedding Story — Ashley and Sheldon P H OTO G R A P H E R MCKENZIE JESPERSON Mckenziejespersen.com
Ashley and Sheldon are both from small towns in Saskatchewan and decided to settle down in Sheldon’s hometown, Plenty where they are building a house on his family farm, with their dog Sadie. The couple enjoy travelling and actually met in Jamaica where they were both attending a mutual friend’s wedding. “That is why travelling for our wedding was always an option, and being from the Prairies we loved the idea of a mountain setting. Fernie provided the location and venue we wanted, with all the amenities and activities to keep guests entertained for a mini-vacation,” Ashley says. As a kid, Sheldon had visited Fernie to ski and he continued this trend as an adult,
enjoying snowboard and snowmobile trips with friends. Sheldon and Ashley were both interested in a winter wedding in the mountains, agreeing that there is something magical about them. Elk View Lodge fit perfectly into their plans, especially as they were looking for a “do it yourself” venue. It was close enough to everything ensuring guests could easily enjoy the outdoors as well as all that the town offers. “We had so much to do! We went snowshoeing, skiing and snowmobiling, went to Fernie Brewing Co. and checked out the Fernie distillery along with the great restaurants along the way! Us girls took a day and relaxed at Spa 901 at a private group booking. It was the most calm, relaxing day possible. Lastly
Q&A What is your favourite moment of your wedding day? I would have to say our intimate, beautiful and sincere ceremony. There wasn’t a dry eye in the place. Our close friend was our commissioner, so we got to write the whole ceremony ourselves, which was just so much more meaningful. It was beautiful, emotional, romantic and so much fun! There isn’t a thing I would change about our wedding day! What advice would you give those planning their own wedding day?
we even took in some Griz Days events, which the kids loved! It was the perfect week away.”
The wedding style they went with was classic and elegant. “We used all natural colours - nudes, blush and greens, to go with our setting in the mountains. And with the lodge, we didn’t need to over decorate, just enhanced its beauty,” Ashley added.
Elk View Lodge was also a great fit for the size of the wedding. “It was a small, intimate event and we wanted everyone with us for the whole week. We could all sleep and eat in the same place. It was great the morning of the wedding as we started it off with a homecooked breakfast for everyone staying with us at the lodge before the hair and makeup girls came up to help us get ready… all set to a hand-picked playlist of our favourite songs to get us in the mood.”
Ashley and her bridesmaids had Spa 901 and Sparrow Hair team up for hair and makeup, and Mckenzie Jesperson as a photographer. “She was prepared and easy to work with. It helped to have someone local who knew the best photo spots. I had sent a list of photos I wanted ahead of time, and she delivered. The locations were easy to get to, but also accommodated the mountain scenes I hoped for.”
The caterer was Country Encounters Catering from Coleman, and the DJ Jeremy from JAZ Audio in Cranbrook. They also worked with Patti’s Party Rentals for a few additional items they needed once here, and they appreciated her service and the ease of delivery and pickup. Ashley, Sheldon, their dog Sadie and guests experienced their “ideal” winter wedding in Fernie last winter. Congratulations!
Honestly ask yourself what type of day you really want, and make it happen. You can’t please anyone but yourself, it’s your day to do what you want. Don’t stress about the little things either, because no one will know if something you planned didn’t turn out. Remember the day is about you as a couple, and the people there to celebrate your love and life together! What were some unique elements to your wedding that really stand out things you tried to do differently?
We had a Polaroid guestbook! All guests took a photo, stuck it in a book and wrote beautiful notes for us to cherish. Also, our ‘first look’ let us truly show our emotion and have a private moment. We made sure to have some fun once all the serious stuff was over. Sheldon and his grooms team had a GT race to celebrate down the awesome hill right out front of the Elk View Lodge. Lastly, we had our dog take part in every moment - the pictures, ceremony, and she even came out on the dance floor, because she is our family!

— Wedding Story — Hannah and Tom P H OTO G R A P H E R K Y L E H A M I LT O N Kylehamiltonphotography.com
Tom and Hannah met on the ski hill through Fernie Winter Sports School, where they both worked as ski instructors. “We started hanging out and skiing together, and despite being a lot more experienced than me, Tom was happy to go at my pace, even on powder days…that’s when I knew it was love,” says Hannah.
Both Hannah and Tom are from the UK originally, but Tom made Canada his home ten years ago, and has been living in Fernie for the last six. “I came out to do a ski season, thinking I’d only be visiting for six months before moving on to the next adventure. Fernie and Tom stole my heart, and it wasn’t long before I started flying back to Canada in between uni and work. I’m currently at med school in the UK, so we arranged our wedding to mark the end of my academic year and the start of living together in the town we’ve chosen to call home. Guess it’s true what they say – come for winter and stay for summer!” Hannah did the majority of the planning, which was a bit challenging being in the UK, but everyone she dealt with in Fernie made the process a lot easier.
“We used Elk View Lodge as our venue, Kyle Hamilton for photography, Crumbs for our cake, Fernie Brewing Company for the beer, The Tipple for
wine and spirits, Beanpod for chocolates, Lizard Creek Lodge for catering and servers, Patti’s Rentals for linens and décor and DJ Geoff for music in the evening. Our commissioner was Lynn Rogers, who was absolutely incredible. We also think a special mention is hugely deserved to Jeff Steirt – he sang at our wedding and reception. His professionalism, caring attitude and amazing performance; everyone at the wedding was on their feet and his closing song of ACDC was a favourite moment for both Tom and I.”
Tom and Hannah wanted the wedding to showcase the best of Fernie while keeping British elements throughout. The wedding spanned the weekend, with people arriving Friday and those from out of town staying at Elk View Lodge, where they hosted 40 guests.
“Saturday, we went to Silver Springs and FBC, before having a relaxed dinner in the evening. Our wedding day on Sunday saw a further 30 guests arrive to the Lodge in the afternoon. We had our ceremony on the lawn in beautiful weather, with the ski hill and the Three Sisters as our backdrop,” Hannah says. “Throughout the weekend we tried to blend Fernie and London – we had Fernie beers and BC wines, with London gin

Q&A Why did you choose to get married in Fernie? Getting married in Fernie was a nobrainer – we both love this town and think it’s the most beautiful setting for a wedding. We were also keen for all our British family and friends to come out and see why we’ve chosen it as our home, and enjoy everything Fernie has to offer. What is your favourite moment of your wedding day?
Personally, my favourite moment of the wedding was the speeches. We decided to not have formal ones, but instead had two of our friends MC the night, asking people throughout dinner to share funny stories about Tom and I, or how they knew us. This meant that we had a wonderful collection of stories from friends and family, from the UK and Canada, in a beautifully authentic and natural way. What advice would you give those planning their own wedding day?
and tonic. We had a British hymn sung at the ceremony, with readings from North American authors. Our table names were Fernie ski runs (which are actually perfect for a wedding – Knot Chutes, Diamond Back, Heartland, etc.) and the cake was the traditional British Victoria Sponge, but with a handmade wooden ski themed cake topper. It was little details like this that gave our wedding a really personal and intimate feel.”
It was the best weekend of our lives and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful wedding. It was a mix of luck (like the weather!) and hard work, but it was worth every moment spent in the planning, and we are so thankful for all the services and people in Fernie, as well as the beauty of the town, that made it such an incredible weekend.” Congratulations, Hannah and Tom!
It’ll be okay. It can seem incredibly stressful, and there will be details that you sweat for hours over that people might not even notice, but as long as everyone is having a good time (which they will!) then it doesn’t matter. I would also like to pass on advice given to me by my best friend – take a moment every now and then to just take a mental snapshot; absorb what’s going on and commit it to memory. It will fly by and I’m so grateful that I have distinct moments that are ingrained in my memory. 15
— Why Fernie — Deep-Fried Pickles and “I Do” BY JESSE BELL P H O T O S B Y M AT T K U H N
Our wedding was a little different. We signed our marriage license at our dining room table at home in Fernie, then promptly went for a bike ride and ordered pizza. Two weeks later we had a ceremony on a beach on the coast before telling everyone we’d eloped and then escaped for seven days in a tent along the Cape Scott Trail. After returning home we threw a party at the Rusty Edge (deemed our Fake Wedding). Though no vows were exchanged publicly and there was no three-course meal or party favours, our Fake Wedding felt as real as any other. There was deep-fried pickles, a cake and pie bar, polaroid cameras and tequila-infused speeches. My sister and I danced on top of speakers to Tina Turner. But mostly, there was a ton of feels, and feels are the reason
we all love weddings in the first place. We wanted to stay true to ourselves, while still meeting with some of the traditions that make weddings magical. There really is nothing more marvellous than all of the people you love, from all different times in your life, in the same place at the same time. My heart nearly bursts just thinking of the love from that night, even now. Fernie is the best place for a wedding, and here are a few special reasons why.
The mountains: they’re so incredible, and not just for photographs. The mountains provide a playground for your friends and family, and give them the best reason to arrive before the vows and stay long after the hangover. There are easy hikes to waterfalls for the guest who prefers heels and hair-dos, and extreme
hikes up fossil-laden cliffs for those who seek infiniteness. We took a group of friends along the 16-kilometre Rocky Rd. Trail to Island Lake after our Fake Wedding, and our friend from Australia (who had never hiked in that capacity before) saw a moose. Ronnie saw a moose!
The town: Fernie’s downtown is vibrant. Lively restaurants and sunny patios, morning coffees and afternoon cocktails. The historic downtown isn’t just for wedding party photos, there’s a plethora of shops and boutiques making it easy to spend an afternoon perusing, and plenty of bars for those enthusiastic for nightlife. Our house, filled with faraway wedding guests, spent almost every evening walking the few short blocks for ice cream at Happy Cow. There’s nostalgia in biking the
quiet streets to secret swim holes with friends, and memories to be made in going to the spa for pedicures with your mom and mother-inlaw. Take those moments, savour them.
The people: they’re the reason for everything. Weddings can be overwhelming (even if they’re fake) and it’s important to have a tribe of people you trust to help you get through the sticky spots. Ang Magliocco from Silver Lining Events was my saving grace. When I requested deep-fried pickles, she laughed and then promptly asked, “how many?” She made it possible for me to ballad out with Tina Turner on a speaker and not fall off—though if I had fallen, she would’ve been there to pick me up. Our photographer and friend Matt Kuhn made for a painless mountain photoshoot, and captured everything my tequila-hazed mind can’t remember. Friends and family helped pick wildflowers for floral arrangements and make homemade cakes and pies so I didn’t have to. Everyone who did anything, even by
just showing up, made our Fake Wedding real.
It doesn’t matter if you wear a white gown or a romper, if you carry a bouquet of roses or none
at all, if you get married at the river or your kitchen table, a wedding in Fernie is magical. Because of the location, absolutely, but more so because of all the little things between. The evenings watching Sex and the City with your girlfriends because you’re too hungover to do anything else, the days fighting wasps on the beach at your stagette. The best night you might not fully remember, with the people you’ll never forget.

— Wedding Tips — Floral Trends BY CARMEN DUNNET
Floral trends change every year, but usually only in one or two of these aspects: Colour. Design. Shape. Flowers. Greenery. But for the first time in my 15 years experience it seems like just about everything is changing all at once. Sometimes such big changes can be daunting, but don’t worry- we are here to break it down for you! Colours and Elements
We are starting to see florals designed in a more colour block style: various shades and tones of one or two colours, creating a cohesive feel to the arrangements. Couples are more concerned about creating a “feel” to the day than matching the bridesmaids’ dress colour swatch. While there are still pops of bright colours, the trends lean more towards soft, earthy shades (pinks to browns, pastels, and whites to terracotta, etc.). Popular flowers remain similar: Roses, Peonies, etc., with the addition of blooms that have stems with movement: lisianthus, ranunculus, and fritillaria. Another popular addition is the use of dried flower or grasses to add more texture.
The biggest change in the elements of floral design is the use of greenery (or lack there of). While greenery once served as the base for bouquets and centrepieces, it now is used only as an accent, and is carefully chosen for its colour or texture.
Bouquets The overall size of bouquets are decreasing as we are seeing less bride’s opt for the large boho bouquets filled with wild greens, and instead moving towards smaller bouquets that are flower centric. Although smaller, and less wild then the boho bouquets, these organic posies are filled with movement and texture. They are the perfect accent to your dress, without feeling as though you are hiding behind them. (Added bonus: they aren’t as heavy!) Centrepieces
The trend is shifting away from the greenery

lined tables that have been so popular the past few years. Couples are returning to a more traditional centrepiece- but with a twist. The organic feeling arrangements with dramatic lines are like art pieces on each table, all while allowing for easy conversation over their low height. The couples that prefer a more minimalistic approach are clustering simple bud vases filled with delicate blooms down the centre of the table, on a neutral coloured, flowing linen or cheese cloth runner.
Centrepiece vessels are undergoing a shift as well. In the past years metallics have ruled (don’t worry, brassy gold is still going
have become bigger and more popular. Thanks to Prince Harry and Megan Markle’s jaw dropping wedding entrance arch, couples are eager to have their own floral showstopper on their big day.
strong!), but now earthy, neutral vessels are having their turn.
Matte white or black, terracotta, and assorted ceramics allow the flowers to take centre stage.
Suspended from the ceiling, climbing a wall or pole, or appearing to grow from the ground, Floral Installations are a great way to bring some natural beauty to your big day as well as give your guests a visual treat they won’t soon forget!
Ceremony
The traditional arch dripping with greenery and flowers is still a popular choice, but new shapes are also making an entrance! Hexagon, circle, and triangle archways are stunning when decorated with florals to create a focal piece for ceremonies and can be reused behind the head table.
Arches will always have a place in the trends, but because we are surrounded by some amazing views of the Rocky Mountains, ground installations are a popular choice here. A semi-circle around the couple, or aisles lined with flowers, makes you feel as

may be cliché but we all know there is truth to the saying, “too many stylists in the salon.”
The Braids and Buns of Wedding Hair B Y K E L LY W I L L I A M S Imagine if there was a step by step guide to having the greatest wedding? I should write that. I could be a multi millionaire. Ok, so I haven’t written that (yet) but I’m here to help take the guess work out of the dos and don’ts of your wedding hair.
First, trust your stylist. We are in the business of making you beautiful. If you’re smiling, so are we. (And no one wants a pouting stylist.) Bring as many reference pictures as you can. You and I both know you started pinning wedding hair before you even got engaged. Or maybe even before you knew who the groom would be. We can work together to find the best style for your hair, dress and personality.

Don’t jump the gun on booking your trial. You are super important to us… like that first cup of coffee in the morning. It brings us to life, but life can get busy and sometimes we forget where we put that cup down. Four weeks before the big day, come in, sip coffee while enjoying your stylist playing with your hair. Bring your mom or your maid of honour, but avoid bringing the whole wedding party. It
Now that your trial is booked, another important “to do” is your pre-wedding cut and colour. No need to go wild thinking you need a big change. Let’s go with your marriage being the big change. Roughly two to three weeks before the wedding get your colour touched up and maybe that much-needed trim since you stopped cutting your hair the second you got engaged. Last but not least, have fun. Take in as much as you can. Let your stylist help you. Feel free to ask questions, or to tweak things slightly. And don’t stress too much, it results in all stylists’ worst nightmare. Grey hair.

— Wedding Tips — Big Day, Right Wine B Y L I S A M A R I E R I T C H AT
Preparing for your wedding day, the day you’ve been dreaming of, requires so many things to think about; flowers, bridesmaids, seating charts, the perfect dance tunes. There is no time to stress about choosing the right wine, the make-your-tongue-tingle type of wine that everyone can enjoy.
MCKENZIE JESPERSEN PHOTOGRAPHY
You want something easy, versatile, a varietal everyone can enjoy and want more of. And though the pressure is surely mounting, don’t panic. Though if you do, take a deep breath. Your wedding is a day for celebration! Here are a few tips to help you choose the best wine for the perfect pairing on your big day. 1. Your wedding day deserves a toast. Think about starting your celebration with a glass of champagne. Choose a sparkling wine on the dryer side guaranteed to delight a larger audience. No need to spend more than necessary on fancy champagnes when there is such a large selection of sparklings out there. Keep it simple, elegant, affordable.
2. When it comes to wine, think basic. There’s no need to give your amazing guests a large selection—a simple red and white is the best way to go. You know your guests! If they like to drink wine, or you have a hot summer wedding, adding in a refreshing rosé could be just what your wedding needs. Goodness knows, the girls love rosé. I would keep it on the drier side.
4. Most importantly, remember this is your day. It’s great to have a special wine at your head table, you just got married! This is a time when you can think about your own favourites and treat yourself. A unique day calls for a unique, decadent wine.
3. Varietal is everything. Keep it simple, and remember not to concentrate too much on your wedding season as much as the versatility of the wine. Choose a wine that pairs well with food, but that can also be enjoyed alone. Not too sweet, not too dry. Balanced blends would work well or if you want to stick to a single varietal think Pinot Gris, Sauv Blanc, Cab Sauv and Merlot, this is wine language anyone can understand.
We are so lucky to have an ever-growing wine region in the beautiful Okanagan. Often the people you love travel from far and wide to attend your wedding. By keeping your wine selection local to British Columbia, you can really add something special to your guests’ experiences. They will remember the speeches, the dancing, and the food, but make sure they also remember the wine. And above all else, have fun. Take a deep breath, crack open a bottle of bubbles, and celebrate. Congratulations!
While Lisa Marie Ritchat previously called Fernie home, she was lured away by the Okanagan and its growing number of vineyards where she is now an esteemed wine sales rep.

Here are eight ideas to help set your wedding day apart and create a lasting memory in your and your guests’ minds. Thoughtful Keepsakes Increasingly, we have become aware and interested in where things comes from, whether it’s locally grown, how it’s made… Having a mindful goodie bag or even party favours will go a long way in pleasing guests while also supporting the local economy. Think artisanal chocolate, mini bags of locally roasted coffee, handmade soap with your wedding logo on them. These are memorable and touching gifts that will leave a lasting impression.
Vintage Touch One of my favourite additions to a wedding is placing vintage furniture on the lawn. There’s just nothing classier than having a glass of champagne on a floral retro couch from the 70’s, your purse sitting on the gold trim side table. A perfect decor! Think of ways you can add a vintage touch to your day. BOHO Theme An extremely stylish touch is using a Bohemian carpet along your wedding aisle. Perhaps instead of having flower arrangements, you
use flower petals and candles. Coordinate the textile with the flowers and decorations. It creates a cozy environment, leaving your guests feeling right at home.
Flowers for a Queen Flowers can define the tone of a wedding. Do something dramatic - anything from a wedding arch, backdrop at the ceremony, church entrance, hanging flowers above the head table. The bonus is you won’t need much more to decorate your space or additional flowers as you already made your statement! Go big or go home!
Contrasting Bouquet Let’s talk about wedding bouquets! Impress your guests with a mix of fresh and dried flowers. The first word that comes to my mind is PAMPAS! They come in different colours, shapes and always look fabulous! The beauty is in the contrast between the two - fresh and dried flowers such as dried bunny tail

grass, dried Ruscus, dried straw flowers, add texture, shapes and movement. Play With Your Food Who likes food? Tasting stations are the new style for tapas. Chefs can be onsite, explaining the prepared food and what to pair with it. It’s an entertaining and interactive option, that can even inspire with new recipes. Another idea is a “Guessing Station” where guests are blindfolded and you have to figure out what the chef prepared.
Food Trucks Every town has a great selection of food trucks. From Japanese cuisine to Thai, Mexican to Ice Cream... consider hiring a local food truck for your evening snack, or for a more casual affair the wedding dinner. Guests enjoy being able to pick what they like off the menu, freshly made to order, exactly when they want it.

Entertainment and Games If you love games and so do your friends and family, this one’s for you! Think about games and activities that involve everyone. Consider hiring someone to do Tarot Card or tea leaf reading, people will line up to hear their futures and fortunes. You could also purchase human-sized games such as Jenga, chess or checkers. This gets guests of all ages outside on the lawn, interacting and having fun. The most important thing is to stay true to you, which will ensure your wedding is unique no matter what you decide. Congratulations. Faye Latulippe from Lush Kootenay weddings and events is a certified wedding planner and provides a wide range of services, from full planning and coordination to custom packages.

— Wedding Tips — Why Every Bride Should Consider a Boudoir Photo Shoot BY LEAH WILKIE
Boudoir photo shoots are becoming as natural a part of the pre-wedding activities as bachelorette parties or rehearsal dinners. If you have never considered doing one, or you’re interested but hesitant, then read on to learn why a boudoir shoot might be for you. Boudoir photos are a unique and meaningful gift. Finding the right gift for your husband-to-be can be stressful. You want your choice to have an emotional impact that lasts through your years together, and you want it to be special. Boudoir photos fit that bill perfectly. Not only are the photographs beautiful, they are also an expression of confidence and vulnerability - which are two qualities that can translate to deeper intimacy in a relationship.
Boudoir photos celebrate the woman you are at the beginning. As a bride, you want to be the most beautiful version of yourself, and you want to remember yourself like that in the coming years. Your wedding photos will capture you as a bride, but your boudoir photos will capture you as a woman. And as children and time bless your life, you will be glad to have photos to remember where you started. Boudoir is a fun way to prepare for your wedding day. There are so many fun things

that happen in preparation for a wedding, but all of that prep can be stressful. Even though boudoir can be a bit nerve-wracking at the beginning, it is also a time to be pampered. With your hair and makeup done all you have to do is follow directions, play dress-up, and have fun. It can be a great way to carve out space to slow it all down and savour the time before you get married. Boudoir is an antidote to the “I’ll be beautiful when” syndrome. You might find that a wedding brings a lot of pressure to ‘be perfect’ as you manage everyone’s expectations, including your own! A boudoir shoot is all about celebrating the beauty and strength that you already possess though - not focusing on who you aren’t, or some far-off idealised version of yourself. And the amazing thing is, you will find yourself loving the person you see in the photographs - in spite of her imperfections. Seeing yourself
through someone else’s eyes is a beautiful and empowering experience!
Boudoir builds confidence - and there is nothing sexier than confidence. The only prerequisite for “sexiness” is confidence. No matter how much confidence you do or do not have at the beginning of a shoot, a boudoir session will grow it bigger. And when your confidence grows, you take more chances, love more freely, and live a little larger. That is an amazing thing to bring into a marriage!
Best of luck as you prepare for your wedding day, and we hope that if you do choose to have a boudoir photo shoot, it is part of what makes it unforgettable! Leah Wilkie and her husband, Kevan are the husband and wife team behind Decoro Portraits, who together notice and draw out beauty in every individual they photograph.
