Currently the housing market and new builds look more buoyant than previously expected. Though we still have to wait for the times of recession that are just about to hit us.
This sector has a strong track record of bouncing back from shocks and knocks. However and businesses are currently evaluating their profits and their margins, and how best to tackle the financial forecasts. Home-working could once again be on the rise, not just because of the football but as it will greatly help to reduce overheads.
It is inevitable that things will remain uncertain for some time in this new Dickensian era we keep hearing about. We are extremely resilient however and there are those out there who have clear vision on how to weather this particular storm.
We all learned to adapt through the Coronavirus epidemic and we can find ways to adapt, invest and build on the future .
At the moment, commercial property values are holding steady with a strong potential in relation to investment. Refurbishment opportunities could well be the route forward for many building companies.
Technology, performance and trends, greatly influence many aspects of the glazing industry with design remaining a focal aspect. Whether a modern, new-build or the redevelopment of a listed property modern design and manufacturing methods are playing their part and it matters.
At the moment, the fenestration landscape is evolving - Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest are now the forces shaping the business awareness of our customers. The positive is, that it does give all of us more control over what we are saying or when we are achieving successes.
Commercial design faces new challenges when it comes to making a statement. Whether it is a striking engineering project, new skyscraper or the redevelopment of a hotel spa chain, design remains a fundamental aspect for the sector as it must accommodate the expectations of modern inhabitants.
Architects and interior designers continue to create concepts that address our modern desire to own something that reflects our lifestyles. Also, the need to create something new that brings security and familiarity remains high on the agenda of those with budget. Buildings must answer the need of longing for the best of the past, while combining that with a desire to sample something vital and new.
In respect of any newly designed building, the planners and architects have so much at their disposal that can be drawn on for research, practicality, green values as well as cultural elements, that there is now real choice when looking at modern building concepts.
Manufacturers need to keep pace. The Generation Z and Millennials have never been without technology and they utilise it in ways that we must learn to keep pace. Style, product innovation and performance dynamics will influence investment and must be readily available on the internet to view – so, even if a retro design is required, whether it is acoustic glazing for a trendy workout space, the current window colour frame chart, or a charitable cause that a product manufacturer or firm of architects is keen to support.
It all has bearing for the sector and needs to be a part of the manufacturers online conversation today. We have to be able to cater for tomorrow’s market that has access to information at the touch of a keyboard and won’t waste time waiting to find out messages from those who haven’t kept up.
We could be in for a bumpy start to 2023 but let’s look forward with some optimism about the potential we all have and what we can achieve in the next 12 months.

Christmas tends to make us think of family, celebrations, carol concerts and all the wonderfully warm feelings it brings with it.. For many, this year will feel the pinch on our wallets more than ever given the current economic climate. Once again however, Christmas for the NFA team is all about giving but it is noticeable this year how the big supermarket chains have reined in their budgets to reflect the times we are currently living in.
For a lot more people this year, those cheery times are tinted with huge concerns over the price of everyday living. Many of our national charities bring to mind that there are still those who really need us at this time of the year.
The NHS continues to have a pretty rough time of it and for the nurses, doctors, auxiliary staff who turn up for just another shift at Christmas and the New Year in hospitals and hospices, it has probably never been more important to show them some support. Trying to bring a little heartwarming Christmas cheer is still so important, particularly for those who will be struggling to cope over the season. As ever, with this in mind, Lee, and the whole NFA team have been hard-working Christmas elves once again, in a bid to help support the Leeds based CATCH charity.
CATCH has been dedicated to improving opportunities for the local community and young people for over 10 years. As an organically grown charity the team helps to provide safe spaces for children and young adults to develop. Promoting unity and acceptance, they provide volunteering and community based opportunities across the Leeds area.
For children especially, as well as their families, this year could prove to be an overwhelmingly difficult time to handle the stresses and strains brought about by worry, mental health issues and fear of the future.
Therefore, this year sees the NFA team, headed up by Lee, ensuring that the donations made by some very generous business leaders in the glass and glazing sector will help to raise some Christmas cheer.
We would all like to say a huge thank you to those who have contributed to this year’s Christmas cause.
Wishing you all a very merry Christmas!

Traditionally, Autumn is the season for exhibitions and they pretty much cover just about every aspect of renovation, construction and innovation. Whether it’s ways to reduce heating costs, aesthetics, solar control, safety or just novel ideas that make life all the more simple or beautiful, there is something for just about everyone from builders and installers to architects and home DIY enthusiasts. So it’s on with the show.
In September we saw Glasstec once again demonstrate its unequivocal relevance as at the flagship exhibition for the glass processing sector. With nine halls in the Messe Dusseldorf all dedicated to the future of the global glass industry, more than 30,000 visitors attended to see the latest technology on display from the leaders in glass processing and manufacturing.
Naturally, GlassBuild 22 drew in large international crowds with leading players from Europe and the UK all in attendance.
Adrian Barraclough, CEO, Audasi Group commented, “The USA does things on a such large and loud scale but for true quality, innovation and enterprise the Brits are still world leaders.”
According to Adrian, the British Pavilion appeared to be the only area where ‘things were happening”, so it’s good to know that we were standing tall on such a large international stage. Shows such as these really help to reaffirm all that is great about what the fenestration and construction sector represent, and with key industry movers and shakers giving their support, that can only bode well for the UK.
FENEX online exhibition demonstrated how technology and real-time expos can work together hand in hand. Self-builders and renovation experts once again took to their keypads, mobiles and laptops to gain inspirational ideas about current and new innovations across the fenestration, architectural and building sectors.
Considered by most a positive event, it won’t be long now until the next big FENEX event in Telford 2023. This also is bringing together leading names from the UK with innovative design and high specification products no doubt on display to attract sales, inspire installers and to make life safer and more beautiful for the all important end user. Face to face discussion is always highly valued by exhibitors as the possibility of new customers coming on board will hopefully lead to new business growth for many. In today’s world, there has to be room for everyone to grow.
Inspirational home renovation ideas are always welcomed by an eager audience looking to add to their business portfolios and skillset so book your ticket or stand now while you still can.
With the NFAs (more on that later), celebrating the best of our sector’s talent this month, once again this year brought about an opportunity for the fenestration industry to recognise all those that come together to support each other and their companies.
So many inspiring business leaders, professional colleagues are leading and encouraging the career journeys of those looking to build their reputations, all boosted of course, by recognition from the industry with NFA awards. R&D departments alongside marketing teams and company owners celebrated all that is good about this sector, and boy did they celebrate! Congratulations to one and all NFA winners.
While installers, builders and architects can revel in the potential of tomorrow’s innovations, there appears to be a hopeful attitude out there, despite all the chaos brought about by the political turmoil of the last few months.
Obviously, ROI will be key for many people regarding the decision making process moving forward, which is not particularly news to anyone, but design-led living is now far more achievable and the message that consumers can have it all seems to continue to inspire the crowd to visit expos, be inspired and invest.
Premium window and door designer The Residence Collection win big at the National Fenestration Awards
At The Residence Collection, we are incredibly pleased to announce our success at The National Fenestration Awards, winning the Timber Alternative Company category for the fifth time, after winning in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2020.
We are a premium provider of timber alternative uPVC windows and doors, and offer three timber alternative collections, R2, R7, and R9, that have helped us win this award. Our windows and doors can easily replicate the look and feel of traditional timber windows, with the functionality, performance and modern technology that’s designed to last.
The National Fenestration Awards are the largest glass, glazing and fenestration award board in the UK, and with all winners decided by the industry, it’s a great achievement to be recognised by our peers yet again. Nearly 30,000 votes were cast in this year’s ceremony, and we’re so thrilled to be taking home the title for the fifth time.
Each window designed by The Residence Collection is made bespoke to each and every customer, and we offer 26 colourways of products, to ensure homeowners can find the right product to perfectly fit them and their home.
Our collections are what made our win possible, and each offers customers something different, while maintaining our superb functionality and design. The R9 collection is the original timber alternative, designed to authentically replicate 19th century timber designs with modern technology bringing the collection to life. The R7 collection is a more versatile choice, with beautiful flush finishes inside and out, while the R2 collection is the choice for a modern aesthetic, with clean lines and a square appearance – the perfect alternative to aluminium.
And with low u-values such as 1.2W/m2K with double glazing as standard and triple glazing as low as 0.7W/m2K, our windows also have stellar thermal properties and have been designed to keep the heat in, making them cost-efficient for homeowners in the long term - something that’s incredibly important at this current time.
We are also incredibly proud of the team at Listers, who also won big at the National Fenestration Awards, taking home the title of PVC Fabricator. We work closely with Listers to ensure our customer’s windows are made to their specifications. We couldn’t do what we do without all our skilled and trusted fabricators, so we’re thrilled to see Listers being recognised for their hard work.
You can find out even more about our collections online at www.residencecollection.co.uk.

Sawing and Machining experts Stuga are celebrating their first win at the prestigious NFA Awards 2022.
The Great Yarmouth based manufacturing company, which took the title in the Machinery Company category, credit their win to the efforts and dedication of their employees, the constant evolution of their award-winning designs and to the customers who continue to support them.
Ed Williams, Commercial Director for Stuga – which is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the Stürtz Group – said: “We are absolutely thrilled to win this award, voted by our peers in the industry, as it recognises the significant contribution that Stuga have made to the fenestration industry since introducing their first automated sawing & machining solution back in the late 1990’s – its the culmination of years of dedication and effort on the part of everyone involved.”
Stuga have built an enviable reputation for quality and reliability over the past 20 years and the particular success of the ZX5 flagship machine has continued in 2022, with unprecedented growth amid a challenging climate. The machine has been designed to fully cut and prep 800 or more internally glazed windows per week in a single shift.
The combination of the patented ‘Tru-loc’ non-slip profile gripper system and ’Y-drive’ notching feature (which guarantees the accuracy of both ‘V’ and ‘Y’ notches) have allowed Stuga to continue building on previous successes.
The recent acquisition by German based Stürtz means that Stuga now also supply and service a comprehensive suite of welding, corner cleaning and logistics/handling solutions - the acquisition means they’re the only supplier in the market to provide true turnkey solutions to cover every part of the window manufacturing process.
“We have a focus on growing Sturtz’s presence in the UK market and to this end we are investing in people, developing both our sales and technical structures to support this growth” said Williams. Stuga have already recruited additional headcount to their UK sales team, with a new Sales Manager already on board; a new technical sales support role also in place and a specialist technical role yet to fill. This comes after a significant investment earlier in 2022, when Stuga’s production facility was doubled in size with the purchase of an adjacent facility.
All Stuga and Stürtz products are fully supported by Stuga’s impressive UK-based technical teams, along with spare parts, service, breakdown also being carried out by the Great Yarmouth based manufacturer.
“An acquisition like this has many challenges, not just for the future sales, but also taking on board the support for machines already installed in the market. The management team here at Stuga are very clear on what is needed to ensure the level of service and support that our UK customers have come to know on Stuga machines is also carried across to the Stürtz portfolio. This is in every aspect of the business from front line technical support, installations, breakdowns, spare parts to help desk and consumables”.
Endurance doors has had an incredible 2022 and to end the year with our latest product development being voted by the industry as the new product of the year really has been the crowning accomplishment. We appreciate everyone who voted for us and the Endurance brand.
Avantal is based on the proven Endurance solid timber architecture and features a range of premium smooth foils to the exterior and a new satin white internal face and edge banding. Hardware is specified through a 3-Star ABS cylinder as standard, along with door ironmongery from Coastal with their Blu collection.
With a demand for higher quality, consumers are increasingly turning to Endurance for the ultimate solid timber entrance door, and to the Avantal product for something a little more luxurious. There’s also a new Avantal brochure which has just been launched in response to customer demand.
Stephen Nadin was delighted with the accolade and commented: ‘It’s not the first time that we’ve won an award at the National Fenestration Awards, yet this feels a little more special given the research and development that has gone into this new door. Showroom samples are being installed by the week and it’s proven to be a focal point for many consumers demanding the best front door.’
The Avantal product is by no means the finished article in regard to the range. We have recently introduced Premium Black hardware which allows colour matching to the low profile style cassettes. 2023 will also see new door styles and colours, as well as the introduction of steel detailing to the face of the Avantal doors, which we hope to be available early in the new year.
Product development has not been the only progress made this year as we have invested heavily in a new showroom and marketing suite, where homeowners can experience our premium doors first hand and speak directly with the us, the manufacturers.
Our sales advisors are on hand in a zero pressure environment to demonstrate every aspect of the door and the its unique selling points. This process ends with an explanation of our Installer Partner network and how we choose the very best available with a proven track record in installation, sales and customer service.
Each visitor leaves with their most local installer recommendation who we have confidence in to provide them with their quote.
If you would like to utilise our showroom to sell the Avantal product, please send your homeowners to the Endurance website, where they can book a showroom visit or an online appointment and experience a personal design consultation with our staff.
www.endurancedoors.co.uk/showroom-design-consultation/
We’d like to express our thanks to all our customers and suppliers for their support and custom over the last 12 months, this has ensured we have continued our growth and improvements to our products, services and the Endurance brand.
The Quickslide team have become a little used to hearing that call lately, as it’s been a great year for picking up trophies, including that for the National Fenestration Awards (NFAs), at which they picked up the Vertical Sliding Window Company Award jointly with Bison.
But despite also picking up another prestigious title within just weeks of the NFA trophy, Quickslide MD Ben Weber says that such things are nice to have, but will never replace a commitment to start every day from scratch to be the best that the firm possibly can.
“I know it sounds like a cliché, but you’re only ever as good as your last day, last week, last month and whilst these awards are terrific for our staff to enjoy some recognition and a good night out, they know that we go back to work and do it all again,” said Ben. But that is just how the Brighouse-based firm became the leading producer of replacement vertical sliding box sash windows, after popularising this style of frame almost 20 years ago.
Today, the company’s Legacy sliding sash windows are closer than ever to being the perfect timber replica and as such are perfectly aligned with the homeowners’ passion for swapping their old draughty frames with the most authentic modern replacements.
In fact, Quickslide has now taken this balance between traditional style and modern performance a stage further following the changes to building regs earlier this year, by partnering with Glazpart to design an exclusive new trickle vent solution to ensure full compliance in a single sash window without compromising on that all-important traditional aesthetic.
Despite Ben’s modesty about winning, he said it was an honour to be shortlisted in so many industry awards and categories: “We’re always pleased to have our efforts and results recognised at the top awards in our industry, and even more so this year when the categories are so far ranging across all the areas of our business that are so important to us and our customers: celebrating our great products, fantastic quality and the customer service we pride ourselves on.
“Awards like these showcase the amazing skills and service across our industry and we’re so proud to once again be taking our place amongst the best. Plus looking forward to a few good celebrations with our industry colleagues too, of course!”

Demand for heritage style windows and doors continues to grow, as new build and refurbishment projects seek to achieve high quality period aesthetics. In response to this demand Reynaers Aluminium UK Limited, has expanded the choice of profiles for its SlimLine 68 (SL 68) range which features as part of its heritage collection.
The SL 68 is already an established and popular choice for architects, fabricators and homeowners alike because of its minimalist design. The window replicates the look of traditional steel windows typical of those used in historic buildings. The two new profiles, called Classic and Ferro, also have slim sightlines so allow the maximum level of light inside the building, as well as offering expansive views of the outside.
The new ‘Heritage’ profiles feature a bevelled and a stepped sash option and choice of outer frames to create a look typical of 20th century designs. Its 68mm frame depth makes it ideal for replacements as an existing window can be removed and replaced with the new SL 68 profiles without affecting existing plaster lines. All profiles in the range can accommodate either double or triple glazing without compromising the super slim profile and have a Window Energy Rating (WER) of up to A on double glazing.
Alongside the two new vent profiles, the addition of a flush transom allows for the fabrication of cruciform windows achieving a fully flush outer frame look, whilst the introduction of a further slim outer frame profile can be used to achieve an even slimmer outer frame sight line. Reverse rebate adapters are also included, enabling fabricators to bead the window on the same side as the vent. Reynaers Product Manager Ian Osborne: “Heritage aesthetics are going from strength to strength for commercial and residential buildings. Keeping a close eye on current trends, we identified an opportunity to develop additional profiles for the SL 68 range that combined strong performance characteristics, slim sightlines and most importantly, ease of fabrication.”
“We’re proud to offer some of the industry’s best performing windows. With the introduction of the new SL 68 profiles and the features they offer, there is now the possibility to benefit from these with an even greater range of design flexibility.” The SL 68 is part of Reynaers’ Heritage Collection, which offers design versatility and choice across different period styles. The collection also includes profiles from the SlimLine 38 range (SL 38), which is a highly insulated system that combines elegance and comfort with a unique slender steel design. The SL 38 is therefore a perfect choice for modern architecture and renovation of steel-framed windows, that respect the original design of a building but provide the latest thermal efficiency performance.
Another significant product in Reynaers’ heritage range is the MasterLine 8, an innovative window and door system that combines maximum daylight and safety without compromise – allowing for breath-taking views with a classic looking aesthetic combined with the latest performance capabilities. The system’s patented technology ensures excellent air permeability and optimal thermal insulation.
The ConceptSystem 77, one of Reynaers’ comprehensive systems, offers both inward and outward opening window and door designs, and is available in a choice of three styles for different types of traditional buildings. Offering excellent levels of security, weather resistance and thermal insulation, CS 77 products are also available in a huge selection of colours and finishes. The additions to the SL 68 system are available now – full technical details can be downloaded from here: www.reynaers.co.uk/products/aluminium-windows/slimline-68

The celebrations at Kolorseal Ltd have been the highlight of a very positive year for the team, with the 4th consecutive victory as NFA Colour Specialist. As a niche company, providing bespoke colour coating services to the fenestration sector #NFA22 win, reflects the high quality standards associated with the firm.
The #NFA22 Independent Industry Awards have gained recognition across the fenestration sector as an accolade that promotes and reflects the highest standards. The gala event held at Doncaster races on Saturday 5th November, was the largest of its kind with a champagne reception, NFA22 trophy presentations, followed by a full day of celebrations that included the last flat race of the season, an evening of live entertainment and a 7 course dinner.
Deborah Hendry, Managing Director, takes great pride in celebrating this achievement which she considers is very much a team effort. The awards, recognised for requiring both nomination and voting by industry peers, she believes demonstrate the highest acknowledge from the sector.
As such, with the National Fenestration Awards being industry led, this win reflects the high standards and the unequalled reputation of Kolorseal, in a fair and open way.
Deborah comments, “This has to be the best award to win - one where we are voted for by our customers and suppliers. It is something we never take for granted and for the Kolorseal team it demonstrates that their commitment to the company does not go unnoticed.
The NFA award is a great recognition that boosts morale and demonstrates to the industry as a whole that we can help them with their own businesses. All of us really appreciate every single vote that has been given to us this year, particularly given the very tough competition.”
The company is recognised by customers for helping to support their business with quality colour coated products. Advice is offered on the Kolorseal website to give ideas and trends on colour options that will help fabricators and installers to offer more to their own customers.
Equally, for commercial contracts where architects and specifiers look to create a striking appearance to both contemporary and traditional building projects, the Kolorseal colour palettes offer a complete choice in both UPVC and aluminium products.
For Deborah Hendry, the NFA Colour Specialist of the Year Award is a wonderful achievement. She comments,“In a very tough market we are so proud and deeply humbled to have won this year. No doubt our success story can be attributed not just to the quality standards we provide but also the drive and commitment of the whole team.”

Intelligent technology and software are now completely integrated into the way people conduct business. Yet a few years ago who could have ever imagined that iphones and social feeds would also change the way that many people are re-modelling their homes.
Renovations such as kitchens, bathrooms or conservatories can now all be designed right there in front of your eyes. Stunning orangeries, garage conversions, bathroom renovations or kitchen extensions. Let’s not forget commercial re-design.
Once the decision has been made to renovate or update it’s common to wonder what those changes will actually look like once installed and the true benefits that can be achieved.
With so many installers and builders now able to advise consumers and investors on all aspects of design thanks to real-time videos, CAD drawings and AR.
For commercial upgrades Augmented Reality (AR) provides excellent ways to redesign production floors, not to mention completely new facilities in order to get the best out of machinery investment.
AR is one of the fastest growing technologies available and investors are keen to see how their investments will work to their best effect. On commercial projects CAD demonstrates how production costs can be reduced. It shows how the whole business can work not just faster but smarter.
From architecture to interior home design, the AR headset or VR may soon be as universal to both large and small businesses as smartphones and iPads…..well if the MetaVerse ads are to be believed and why wouldn’t they?
AR and VR are progressive and as emerging technologies they save time in all areas of renovation and redesign on commercial and domestic projects. Smart software and technology is now the way to renovate a business.
People are quickly catching on about useful technology can be for their individual market sectors as the online and visual reach is fast and extremely powerful. With design apps now so readily available installers gain advantages or even get larger investment in a project, by demonstrating what a new project is looking like on-site.
Also, CAD designs can be altered immediately to demonstrate alterations or new requirements to a project.
Zoom features allow a designer to magnify aspects of a reconfiguration and to illustrate the spatial requirements of new machinery investments.
Home Design 3D, let’s iPhone users create virtual models of a property by creating virtual renderings complete with paint colours and furniture. Android users can also use similar programs which provide a number of advantages for the building and specification sectors, as contractors can calculate the costs regarding configured renovations.
Apps have revolutionised the way business is done in this sector. Installation companies are now using this type of technology to provide customers with an advanced app preview of their range. For example, this allows consumers to have a visual of what they are looking for before visiting a showroom. For many this simplifies the decision making process, but also it enables comprehensive discussion to take place and greatly contributes to overall customer satisfaction.
Many manufacturers and installation companies have adopted 3D simulation now, believing it to be an integral part of the purchasing and planning stages.
VBH, the company behind the popular greenteQ hardware brand, has been successful at the 2022 National Fenestration Awards, picking up wins in two categories. The presentation event was held at Doncaster Racecourse on 5th November, where 20 members of the VBH team joined hundreds of other industry hopefuls.
Following a full card of racing, lunch, afternoon tea and entertainment, the serious business of the awards began. VBH emerged victorious in the Hardware Company of the Year and Digital Marketing Campaign categories.
VBH Marketing Manager Gary Gleeson says, “The team here have been looking forward to the NFAs since we were short-listed in May. We travelled from all points of the GB compass to enjoy the day and were over the moon to win two awards, including that for Hardware Company.
“Hardware supply is, of course, what VBH is all about, so we were particularly pleased to win this one. It was nice to celebrate a win or two on the horses while we were here, too!”
The Digital Marketing award was in recognition of the work done by VBH to promote the greenteQ Q-Smart electronic door handle. NFA awards are decided by votes from all sections of the industry, including fabricators and installers.
Gary concludes, “VBH have been named Hardware Company of the Year three times since 2019. This is particular pleasing as it’s a vote for everything that all members of our team do, right across the company, to provide the industry with the best products and the best service.”

Nine nominations, three runner-up spots and one overall victory at the National Fenestration Awards rounds out another a highly decorated year of recognition for the North East-based glazing systems manufacturer.
Topping off a barrage of nominations and awards in recent years, Made For Trade was thrilled to conclude 2022 not only with a trio of runner-up recognitions, but also an overall category win at the highly-regarded National Fenestration Awards last month; one that truly recognises the present-day manufacturing prowess of the Wynyard business.
First conceived in 2013, the NFAs are the industry’s fastest-growing awards, and they come with one aim: to be the fairest and most inclusive of all fenestration events; rewarding the very best in the glazing sector.
As the first ‘open platform’ awards, what makes this celebration of fenestration unique is that the NFAs aim to recognise all areas of the industry by inviting everyone to not only nominate, but also cast votes themselves for businesses and individuals that they believe deserve recognition. Contrary to usual practice, there are no judges or panels; all nominations are whittled down to shortlists and the final list of winners is decided by votes from those very same industry personnel – without a doubt the most rewarding way to be recognised, for any company.
Of course, whilst the main aim of the National Fenestration Awards is to encourage as much of the sector as possible to take part in a democratic, transparent event that honestly rewards the best in the industry, it is also refreshing in its approach; aiming to make it an enjoyable day out to remember alongside.
Taking place once again with a fun-filled day at Doncaster Racecourse in November, the 2022 event proved as entertaining and eventful as ever, where - following on from a joint category win in 2021 for the new Korniche Bi-Folding Door - this year Made For Trade was thrilled to be shortlisted for a huge tally of nine categories. The remarkable achievement gave a nod to everything from the team’s product innovation to in-house manufacturing capability at the expansive Northeast site, plus business, sales and marketing to highlight the progress and growth of this ever-expanding family enterprise.
With nearly 30,000 votes cast across the 33 categories, the nine awards shortlists to keep MFT event attendees Ashley Gaunt (Technical Director), David Jones (Finance Director) and Chris Caley (Sales Executive) on the edge of their seats throughout the day included Aluminium Fabricator of the Year, Fabricator/Manufacturer of the Year, as well as Bi-Folding Door Manufacturer of the Year to recognise the strides made with the game-changing new Korniche products.
Further nominations were for Door Component of the Year and New Product 2022 (both for the revolutionary Korniche Bi-Fold clip-in ‘Speedbead’), whilst Conservatory Product and Conservatory Fabricator categories recognised the engineering breakthrough and unparalleled sales success of the
Korniche Lantern Roof. Away from the shop floor, the final nominations were for Digital Marketing Campaign of the Year for the Korniche Roof Lantern, as well as a Business Development Manager / Sales Executive of the Year nomination for Chris Caley.
As the proceedings took place across the day, the runner-up spots recognised for Made For Trade were Bi-folding Door Manufacturer, Fabricator/Manufacturer and Door Component for the ‘Speedbead’, but the pinnacle of recognition at the event was MFT taking home the trophy for the Aluminium Fabricator of the Year Award.
In what has been a demanding 2022 across the whole industry as the country deals with numerous issues, Made For Trade remained as a force to be reckoned with in fenestration, continuing to develop new products, grow market share and invest heavily in both factory hardware and office software. The nominations and latest award win judged by those working within the industry further cement the progress of Korniche towards becoming a desirable brand name held in high regard to both trade partners and consumers alike, yet also recognise the increase in sales as an ever-expanding list of businesses choose to supply and install the multi-award-winning Lantern and Bi-folding Door.
Of all the awards for which MFT was shortlisted, being voted by industry peers as the NFA’s Aluminium Fabricator of the Year was one of the most satisfying and ultimately humbling to-date; summing up everything that the company has been striving to achieve by taking next-level, motorsport-derived precision manufacturing experience to fenestration. As the culmination of years of development work and bolstered by game-changing attributes such as MFT’s enviable new ISO9001 quality certification; the award highlights everything Made for Trade is pursuing with the Korniche product line, where engineering continues to underpin the quality and investment in offering the best products with the best service at the best price.
Speaking of the success, MFT Technical Director Ashley Gaunt said: “The NFAs are always a fun and enjoyable event, not to mention being judged in a more visible way to convention. Being shortlisted for so many awards was an honour as were the runner-up spots, but we are all delighted to receive the win for Aluminium Fabricator of the Year, especially knowing it is an achievement that has been recognised and voted from within.”

Garnalex is delighted to announce it has achieved full approved applicator status after going through Syntha Pulvin’s rigorous testing process. This helps underline Garnalex’s commitment to excellence as Syntha Pulvin is one of the leading architectural powder coatings brands in Europe.
Syntha Pulvin only works with approved applicators that hold ISO9001 accreditation and they must complete a comprehensive testing process. This includes a 12-week programme that ensures the organisation meets both the BS6496 standard and Syntha Pulvin’s stringent quality requirements.
Each approved applicator must also provide examples of previous work that can be tested for quality and durability. This protects the Syntha Pulvin brand and ensures the company only works with trusted suppliers. To maintain this full applicator status, Garnalex will also undergo audits at regular intervals.
Earlier in the year, Garnalex commissioned its in-house powder coating plant after a £1.3M investment. The company had previously had its Sheerline aluminium systems powder coated by third-party suppliers, transporting the extruded profiles to these external powder coaters added approximately five weeks to the time it would take to get painted profiles put into stock.
In addition, moving the finished product back and forth not only increased the carbon footprint of the products but also added incremental opportunities for damage to occur. Now that everything is completed in-house, Garnalex has successfully reduced the occurrence of most common paint quality issues. The team at Garnalex has worked hard to ensure everything has been optimised, from the infrastructure to the computerised workflows, so they can offer Sheerline customers a reliable, agile, and quality service.
Greg Grabski, Garnalex’s Powder Coating Plant Manager said: “Gaining full Syntha Pulvin accreditation is a huge accolade for everyone at Garnalex. Our in-house powder coating plant has been operational for less than six months and it is already recognised for its quality and consistency.”
Garnalex CEO, Roger Hartshorn added:
“Bringing our powder coating in-house has been a game-changer for us. It has enabled us to focus on quality in a way we simply couldn’t when we were outsourcing. It’s not just great for Garnalex and the Sheerline brand, it’s also great for our customers. They know when they choose us, they’re choosing quality.”

Uni-Blinds® integral blinds manufacturer Morley Glass has repeated its 2021 success in the National Fenestration Awards (NFAs) by winning in five categories again in this year’s awards programme.
The company won the award for Integral Blinds Company of the Year for the fifth year in a row, reflecting its strategy to provide a continuously developing range of superior quality products backed by unrivalled service and lead times. Morley Glass also won the NFA for ‘Best use of video’, an award it also won in 2021, which continues to be a key part of its marketing programme given the medium’s ability to bring the benefits of integral blinds to life for installers and end-users.
Three members of the Morley Glass team were also recognised for their outstanding contribution. The NFA for ‘Office Manager of the Year’ was presented to Jess Owens, the award for ‘Social networker’ went to Charlotte Gilbert and Bryony Shaw was named the proud winner of the ‘Young person’ award.
Ian Short, Managing Director of Morley Glass said: “Thank you to everyone who took the time to firstly nominate us, and secondly to those who cast their vote in the NFAs. It means so much to us to win awards that are voted for by people working in the window and door industry as they are the ones whose opinion matters most.
“I’d like to congratulate all the winners and especially our three individual award winners – Jess, Charlotte and Bryony. Thank you to the NFA team too for organising a fantastic presentation event at Doncaster racecourse. “Being part of the NFAs is important to help us gauge how well we’re doing as a supplier to the industry. And winning inspires us even more, encouraging everyone in our team to push harder so we can stay at the forefront of the market.”
Winning these latest five NFAs marks the sixth year in a row that Morley Glass has won accolades in this awards programme. It has done so in a year of major investment to increase its production capacity and the size of its delivery vehicle fleet, as well as boosting its recycling operations – all of which helps Morley Glass give its installer customers a unique advantage.
Uni-Blinds® installers benefit from being able to offer homeowners and commercial customers integral blind systems which are manufactured exclusively in the UK using ScreenLine® systems in lead times as short as 10-12 days, when ordered by 10am on Thursdays. They also receive comprehensive training, technical and marketing support to ensure they can secure more integral blind sales and deliver superior installations every time.

The National Fenestration Awards turn 10 years old in 2023 and they want to celebrate in style starting with an expertly designed new logo.
Founded in 2013 by Jason Grafton-Holt, in response to a plethora of support for an independent and all-inclusive event, the National Fenestration Awards aims to recognise all facets of the UK fenestration industry by inviting everyone to nominate and vote on who they think deserves recognition. Now, in their tenth year, it’s time to commemorate their vast achievement with a celebratory new logo!
There are no judges, no panels and no applications. The outcome of the competition is decided completely by industry participation. All members of the fenestration industry get to submit nominations for each category which then get narrowed down to shortlists based on the number of nominations. The industry can then vote on those shortlists to decide the overall winner.
In 2013 their first year, they saw wins from big names in the industry for example VEKA being crowned PVC champions and Solidor being awarded composite door company, they also had a 2013 cool wall award showing some impressive installations.
Jason Grafton-Holt commented after the first years awards “The National Fenestration Awards will always be all-inclusive of the industry and support it. This project is not just about winners and prizes –it’s there as a long-term project to support the industry, get behind it, see changes happen for the better and bring a much-needed “voice” to our industry.”
2014 saw some up-and-coming businesses take home an award like Truemans taking home the trade counter award and they held their first ever winners’ event – a car racing extravaganza featuring land rovers and caterhams at Oulton Park in Cheshire.
Lee Clarke, now company director said “From day one, it had always been the aim of the NFAs to be able to celebrate winners at a physical event. So Thursday marked an important step for the awards, and for those attending and to receive their awards.” The 2015 NFA awards crowned 16 winners with timber company going to Glyngary Joinery with another racing day taking place including Toyota GT 86 rally cars followed by an awards presentation at the Foggarty Moss Suite, at Oulton Park.
2016’s winner’s event was also a car racing day with entertainment from an amazing live band after 17 awards were given our including a win for Vista Panels for composite/panelled doors. Jason commented “One of the key themes of the winners this year has been the high percentage of first time winners in the NFAs. We see this as a result of increasing market penetration the awards now has a the major awareness it garners”,
In 2017 the NFAs saw wins for Morley Glass and Glazing and Masterframe along with the celebrations taking place at the first National Fenestration Awards winners event held at a racecourse with dining and racing.
2018 had even more winners with the likes of Business Micros and Selecta winning awards and enjoying another day at the races with the fenestration industry.
In 2019 both Liniar and Kolorseal were crowned champions with more awards added including Heart of the Industry and Lifetime Achievement.
Even covid didn’t stop the awards happening in 2020 after winners were announced in a video presentation and trophies given out at the joint winners’ event in 2021 held at Doncaster Racecourse - Hilton Garden Suite.
2021 champions included Vitrine Aluminium and Eurocell Plc who all got together to celebrate their wins at Doncaster Racecourse.
In January 2022 co-founder and director Jason Grafton-Holt, handed the organizer baton over to Lee Clarke and a growing team of superb industry people who took the NFAs further and higher than ever before.
After a hugely successful 2022 campaign which saw over 35 winners take home a trophy. The NFA team added 2 surprise, and special, awards to their presentation including longevity and lifetime achievement going to Glyngary Joinery and Roger Hartshorn of Garnalex respectively. This winner’s event was their biggest and best yet, with show-stopping singing waiters, a full race card and a spectacular performance from Helter Skelter, and they want to continue that momentum into 2023.
Campaign dates will be announced soon with nominations expected to start early 2023 and remain for 3 months. Voting will open in the middle of the year and will close towards the end of the year, as the NFA team start preparing for the 10-year celebration winners event!
In a milestone year for the National Fenestration Awards, and with a focus on 10 consecutive years in the industry, they are excited to announce their NEW Instagram account. Hannah, Marketing Assistant at the National Fenestration Awards states “We’re looking to celebrate our 10 year anniversary in style, and with a focus on our history in pictures, there’s no better way to get those throwback photos out there!”
The National Fenestration Awards have given recognition to the fenestration industry for 10 consecutive years, and we want to hear about what being involved has meant to you and your business. Whether it was being nominated by the industry and achieving finalist status, or getting hold of your own trophy, we’d love to publish and share your story!
To talk about what the NFAs mean to you, please contact us: Phone: 01924 911234 or Email: info@fenestrationawards.co.uk.
As Award seasons go, this year’s perhaps validate the NFA’s more than ever, as the desire to win and the excitement of the nominees and finalists, demonstrates the sheer determination of the sector to overcome adversity and celebrate positive results.
In what can only be described as one of the toughest periods in UK history economically, the winners are just beginning to revel in their victories, with their generous nods given from the industry, that they are considered the best at what they do.
The fenestration sector has been at fever pitch over the last couple of months, with many checking out the list of NFA finalists for each category, before promptly voting for those they feel deserve, what is fast becoming the industry’s leading accolade.
Just like The OSCARS, the NFA’s are prestigious…. and just like the OSCARS they are different because they are voted for by the sector itself. Directors, manufacturers, service providers are ALL voted for by the industry as a whole. It is this that makes them worth their weight and brings winners such positive results for their business. In simple terms, the winners have been chosen and rewarded by their peers, which has to be the highest honour for any company.
While there are other awards in the sector, these have different voting systems, with applications required and judging panels making their considered, overall choice for each category. While some may say, on the face of it, that an award is an award, the ‘moods’ are very different when it comes to the NFA’s.
Apart from jubilant celebrating, the NFA event itself allows everyone in the industry to immerse themselves into a world of business, where celebrating the success stories of the past year is just the start of all the award brings to not just a company, but to the team within it.
Resilience, innovation, quality, sustainability, diversity, and the chance to celebrate business excellence, are all main cornerstones of the NFA’s, and this has been the case from the start.
Being acknowledged for the achievements reached in a 12 month period, by your peers, boosts morale, reflects on the high standards offered and demonstrates that those in the sector appreciate the efforts that have been made for them. Indeed, by association, this brings a greater recognition to any customer or supplier that works with one of the winners. It brings benefits to their business as they look to grow. The NFA team’s on-going goal is to create an exceptional community of business leaders who can share their pioneering abilities, which consequently, will raise the bar across the fenestration board, in terms of ethics, professionalism and results.
Lee Clarke, Managing Director of the NFA’s considers that this type of peer-led, industry recognition will help to improve the economy and reinforce the excellence provided by the market-leading NFA winning brands.
Lee comments, “Given the economic turmoil we have all endured over the last 2 to 3 years, we need something positive to boost the sector. The NFA’s help people to push themselves harder as well as for greater recognition and increased profit margins.
With more categories this year than ever before, the NFA’s celebrate all facets of those considered leaders in the sector, whether that is due to successful product launches, strong training ethics, excellent business management, creatively different overviews that get the right message across, or simply a working ethos that helps others… with an NFA accolade, it demonstrates that you have been judged by your business actions, achievements and business principles by those who invest in your company. There can be no higher recognition.”

The new Ublo system offers a truly exceptional concept for the natural ventilation of office and commercial space, but also living space. Integrated directly into the window’s or façade’s insulating glass, the round ventilation module ensures efficient air circulation at all times and also offers numerous advantages in terms of air quality control and comfort. SWISSPACER’s integrated warm edge spacer bars contribute to the high energy efficiency of this innovation, which was developed in the Far East and is now also available in Europe.
Always fresh air inside – without having to open windows or doors: that is the idea behind the Ublo ventilation window developed by designers Robert-Jan van Santen and Naree Kim. The solution, originally developed in Hong Kong and South Korea, consists in simple terms of a round polycarbonate module with an opening of 150 millimetres. This element is installed in the required number directly in the insulating glass with single, double or triple glazing that have been fitted with corresponding “holes”. Depending on the requirements, the ventilation modules can be installed either in the top or bottom part of the insulating glass unit to ensure optimised air buoyancy and circulation in the room. The circular system thus ensures optimum air quality at all times in a very simple way.
Especially in rooms where windows cannot be opened – for example in high-rise buildings – the innovative concept has already been proven successful. This also shows another advantage: due to the small size of each Ublo opening, potential hazards of falling can be avoided and users can comfortably ventilate rooms also on upper floors. At the same time, the system minimises the risk of burglary, especially on the lower floors.
The innovative Ublo system also offers new perspectives in terms of aesthetics. Viewed from the outside, the unique circular geometry expresses creativity and finesse and thus offers planners and architects new design potential. Another advantage is the round “cap”, which can be made transparent or in a variety of materials – for example wood, metal or cork. It is also possible to integrate decorative elements, digital print designs or additional features such as a Bluetooth speaker or a lighting element.
Last but not least, the Ublo ventilation window makes a decisive contribution to optimising energy efficiency in buildings with its simple construction without classic window sash and complex fitting technology. SWISSPACER’s highly energy-efficient warm edge spacer bars also play an important role here.
In the search for a high-performance solution for the warm edge, SWISSPACER Ultimate was confirmed being a suitable product. Installed in the edge seal of the round insulating glass, the spacer, which can be easily bent, ensures improved energy performance of the overall construction. An all-round advantageous choice.
The Ublo concept is more relevant than ever, especially with the ongoing worldwide COVID-19 pandemic and the associated demand for efficient concepts for the natural ventilation of living space and workplaces. “Currently and in future, we see great potential for our ventilation system also in Europe and are already in negotiations with different partners from the glass industry,” explains Naree KIM, Managing Director of Ublo. Complying with the EN 1279 is mandatory, and the tensile stress in the sealant must be checked for each application where glass is exposed to intense solar radiation.

With the industry experiencing a cool down of sorts in recent months, Patio Door Fabricators and Installers must work harder for every sale, looking for ways to make their portfolio stand out.
After attending this year’s Glazing Summit in October, Coastal Group’s Managing Director Loren Jenner had some key takeaways from the day. “With the current market conditions, we must all work harder to win sales - unlike what we have seen in 2021, business is not going to fall into our laps” he states
Whilst this is the case, the market has seen continued demand for a premium product, especially on patio sliding doors says Coastal Group. “The design and function of patio doors continues to evolve and excel” continues Loren Jenner “we find that our customers are increasingly looking for patio handles that mirror the high-quality upgraded aesthetic of the doors themselves and that sets them apart from their competition”.
Coastal says the KM9 series handle is carefully crafted to bring the ultimate look and performance to patio sliding doors, designed with a robust solid stainless steel feel and smooth operating function for ultimate user experience. “We spent a lot of time perfecting the handle’s design, as the key touchpoint to operate the doors themselves we know how important the role hardware plays is” says Marketing Manager Neil Jones “listening to our customer’s preferences, we’ve since upgraded it to a solid stainless steel backplate to support even the largest, heaviest sliding doors and deliver the premium appeal to end users”.
Hardware’s importance doesn’t just end at creating a striking visual, performance and longevity must be considered when selecting the right handle for your patio sliding doors, outlines Coastal Group.
This was demonstrated on a recent project where Coastal were contacted to replace a competitor’s handle less than 12 months after it had been fitted on a luxury beachfront holiday home. The standard zinc handle in question was showing signs of significant corrosion. On the other hand, Coastal’s BLU KM9 handle offers a best-in-class lifetime guarantee, manufactured from 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel.
“One of the key USP’s our KM9 handles gives to the seller is it’s exceptional corrosion resistant properties and lifetime guarantee” Neil Jones continues “With an increasing number of sliding door systems being located in and around coastal areas and in premium properties, installers can be confident that wherever in the world their doors are fitted, they will not be let down by our hardware”.
Adding premium hardware to their portfolio allows installers and fabricators the chance to increase their margin on patio door offerings, states Coastal Group. Loren Jenner continues “This can be a great opportunity to upsell and improve your profit margins. Our customer’s feedback is that the additional money invested in high-quality hardware is minimal in the cost of the door system but can significantly help with their bottom line”.
Try the KM9 patio handle in your showroom, ask about our special showroom offer and see the difference for yourself.
Longstanding Kolorseal customer, Quickslide Ltd, recently turned to the Huddersfield based company, regarding a bespoke, colour transformation project in Yorkshire.
The heritage restoration of a luxury, 19th Century farmhouse in Chapel Wold, required careful consideration to be given to colour and aesthetics for walls that dated back to the 1800s. The colour needed to provide sensitivity to the local habitat as well as the surrounding properties.
Quickslide’s reputation for quality, stunning aesthetics and reliability are recognised nationally, and together with Kolorseal they were able to meet the high standards required across the board; this needed to be sympathetic to the area yet also required a unique, alternative colour that would blend seamlessly.
Debbie Hendry, Managing Director, Kolorseal Ltd comments, “Part of the niche specialism we offer is the vast array of colours we can provide. For this particular project we applied paint to match the Farrow & Ball Light Grey No 17. Knowing the Quickslide team for many years now, we understand their principles and the importance of getting it right for their customers.
Having worked on numerous projects for Quickslide, the Kolorseal team understands that the work they do on such traditional, heritage projects is an essential part of reflecting not just Kolorseal’s standards but the very high expectations from Quickslide, as it reflects their own standards of excellence.”
Colour is such an important part of restoration projects today, with heritage features and the surrounding landscape requiring a very sympathetic approach. Recent years have seen a huge rise in the popularity of heritage Crittall® style, industrial-look doors and windows fit. The design incorporates a steel-look grid design with slim profiles and has been used to compliment Victorian, Scandinavian, and Contemporary properties. Whether it’s delivering elegance on external Bifold or French doors, or creating space and light internally with dividers or screens – the heritage style has been used effectively to transform the look and feel of a property.
Manufacturers of high-quality door and window hardware, Coastal Group believe that an often-overlooked element – the hardware - can make all the difference in bringing your heritage project to life.
“We believe that details make all the difference in creating an exceptional entrance, especially on heritage or Crittall® style projects” states Loren Jenner, Managing Director at the Coastal Group. “The iconic look of slim metal frames and monochrome colours deserve hardware that embodies this elegance - as the touchpoint for homeowners and visitors alike, hardware sets the standard”.
Coastal Group believe one of their latest product innovations, the Opera range is the perfect accompaniment for heritage style doors and windows. It’s simplistic, elegant design is part of a suited range of hardware, allowing customers to match finish and style across their doors and windows.
“A lot of feedback we receive from our customers is regarding the difficulty of sourcing elements of door furniture from different suppliers and the challenge this brings of matching the finishes” Comments Coastal Marketing Manager Neil Jones. “We aim to make life as simple as possible for our customers and help them in sourcing as many products as possible from the one supplier. That’s why we offer a high-quality completely suited hardware range across a customer’s doors and windows - allowing them to maintain a consistent aesthetic from the front door to the back door”. The Opera range is available in three finishes (PVD Satin Black, PVD Satin Brass and Satin Stainless Steel) and allows a consistent look to be maintained on external doors and windows as well as internal screens or dividers.
It’s not just a striking look the Opera has to offer, where performance and longevity is concerned this range will not let you down, claims Coastal Group.
“One of our key philosophies is that door and window hardware should be built to last as long as the doors and windows they are fitted to” continues Loren Jenner. “We want to give our customers peace of mind that wherever in the world their doors and windows are, our hardware is guaranteed to stand the test of time and look great whilst doing so”.
Made from Marine Grade 316 Stainless Steel as part of the BLU range, Opera hardware comes with a bestin-class lifetime guarantee. Its durable design provides excellent resistance to corrosion, even in the most exposed environments or when fitted to acidic timber says Coastal Group.
The Opera lever door handles are durability tested to BS EN 1906:2012, Durability Grade 7 - 200,000 Cycle, as Loren outlines “beautifully crafted slim frame doors and windows do not want to be let down by hardware that’s not up to standard, they need hardware that performs as good as it looks”.
If you’re looking to capture the sleek, elegant feel on your next heritage project, Coastal ask you to consider these details that make all the difference to the look and feel of your doors and windows.
Garnalex CEO, Roger Hartshorn added: “Bringing our powder coating in-house has been a game-changer for us. It has enabled us to focus on quality in a way we simply couldn’t when we were outsourcing. It’s not just great for Garnalex and the Sheerline brand, it’s also great for our customers. They know when they choose us, they’re choosing quality.”

A stunning property in Cheshire’s Alderley Edge has been transformed and modernised by new windows and doors, courtesy of Alexander Windows and The Residence Collection.
Premium window and door designer, The Residence Collection, designed the stunning window profile system. Local window and door installer Alexander Windows and their fabricator, made and installed The Residence Collection windows for each room of the property, bringing the homeowner’s modern vision to life.
Instead of tired wooden frames that required a lot of maintenance and upkeep, now lie stylish flush windows with a clotted cream exterior and flat white interior, modernising the property and bringing a new lease of life to the home, but retaining the charm and character of this beautiful property. As well as all the windows, one cottage door, one flint door and one Painswick door were installed into the home, making this an extensive renovation project that has really paid off.
The Residence Collection’s R7 window was the natural choice due to its fresh look and intelligent functionality, alongside the beautifully flush interior and exterior. The windows consist of a traditional mechanical joint that provides the ultimate timber alternative aesthetic throughout the home and is available in 20+ colours to fit each person’s individual style, and a number of shapes and sizes to fit every need you could think of, from bay and arched windows to French doors.
It’s not just the look of the R7 that delivers, but the performance too. The R7 windows boast an energy rating of A++, with u-values as low as 0.84 W/m2K with triple glazing and 1.2 W/m2K as standard with double glazing, all with a virtually maintenance-free finish, which really appealed to these homeowners who were used to wooden windows that required plenty of upkeep over the years. In a time where energy efficiency and insulation is more important than ever, the stellar thermal properties of the R7 collection really helps to keep the heat in.
Commenting on the project, the homeowner said: “We couldn’t be happier with our new windows and the process as a whole. We chose The Residence Collection due to the flush fitting primarily, but then the extensive choice of colours meant that we could modernise our home but still keep its character.
“Our windows have totally changed the look and feel of our home and has taken it to an entirely different level. Clean lines, an excellent finish and look, and doesn’t look out of place with the area, which is really important to us. The internal benefits have been just as great, the look inside too, but economically the house is much warmer.
“We’ve had lots of comments from friends and family about our new windows. Mainly people have been surprised with the flush fitting and were unaware what could be done with UPVC. We’ve even had comments from colleagues on Teams/Zoom calls!”

Window and door installers can now see for themselves how the stylish new black ScreenLine® Venetian integral blind from Morley Glass can unlock creative potential for shading and privacy.
Slat samples are now available to order of the new B160 black integral Venetian blind, which has been made exclusively available in the UK to Morley Glass by ScreenLine® integral blind systems manufacturer Pellini S.p.A. Morley Glass is the country’s largest producer of integral blinds featuring ScreenLine® systems, which ensures all its Uni-Blinds® integral blinds are built with superior engineered quality for optimum long term reliability and visual appeal.
This latest colour option adds a new creative dimension to the provision of shading and privacy in PVCu, aluminium or timber windows and doors. The colour has seen a resurgence in its popularity for interior features and home décor in the past 12 months with its ability to offer a bold, timeless aesthetic gaining new appeal.
Achieving the most attractive look with black integral blinds has required Pellini and Morley Glass to ensure all the components within the blind unit are consistent. The finish of the slats ensures the colour will not fade over time, retaining its bold appearance, with perfectly matched colours for the cords, header and footer rails and sideguides used across the different Uni-Blinds® systems.
Ian Short, MD of Morley Glass said: “As home interior and décor tastes are continuously changing, we think it is really important for installers to be able to give homeowners the opportunity to choose from the widest range of colours for their Venetian integral blinds. That’s why developing a black option was an obvious next step as the colour is becoming increasingly ‘on trend’ and looks superb for both contemporary and traditional homes.”
With the addition of black, Uni-Blinds® integral Venetian blinds are now available in eleven colours, which also includes the always-popular, exclusive anthracite grey (S159), beige, blue, green and cream. And a similarly wide colour palette is available for Uni-Blinds® pleated integral blinds too, with twelve options available, along with eight colours for the recently launched pleated blackout integral blind.
Whichever colour is specified, installers and homeowners can choose from five different control systems for UniBlinds® integral blinds, including the cordless slider controlled SV System, and its symmetrically designed sister the SV+, the smart-home compatible motorised MB System and classic corded C System.
And all Uni-Blinds® are supplied in the industry’s shortest lead times – manufactured to order in Leeds by Morley Glass in as little as 10-12 days, when an order is placed by 10am on Thursdays, with complimentary nationwide delivery.

FESTIVE OPENING HOURS
CLOSED - 22nd December 2022
RE-OPEN - 3rd January 2023
National UPVC Window Recycling company CNC Recycling are looking forward to 2023 after another landmark year in which it has seen them recycle in excess of one Million old UPVC windows and doors through their plant in 2022 to continue its business growth.
This large increase through successful collection of thousands of tonnes of old windows has been supported by the Nationwide UPVC Recycling centres having grown to fourteen sites with plans for several more in 2023.
This was further supported by investment made through the introduction of a new paperless and digital waste transfer notes software system to support operational processes to help CNC to be at the forefront of legislation and compliance.
Managing Director Melanie Coates commented “Continued investment is being made into more plant and machinery which will further enable the company to recycle more materials ready for extrusion. This will be fed back into the supply chain as a valuable secondary raw material to produce new, recycled windows and doors.
This demand is fully supported by our strong team with a huge emphasis on customer service which is the ethos of CNC Recycling. The company continues to work on building its brand with an very active and strategic approach to sales and marketing in 2023 and we are really excited going into next year”
To further support its customers to reduce their waste on site, CNC Recycling has committed to the glass cullet recycling scheme which has enabled us to provide a post consumer glass recycling service to installers. This material is processed at our site into glass cullet which can be fed directly into the manufacture of new glass.
CNC Recycling are heavily committed to recycling every piece of UPVC waste created as they look to continue to be a trusted and reliable recycling partner to the Fenestration Industry.

Uni-Blinds® integral blind manufacturer Morley Glass has saved over 1,000 tonnes of post-consumer glass from going to landfill in just two years, and instead diverted it into the production of new glass in a scheme that has provided funding of more than £60,000 for environmental and community schemes in WestYorkshire. Morley Glass is the UK’s largest manufacturers of double glazed units with ScreenLine® integral blind systems inside, offering installers a market-leading range of Venetian and pleated blind options.
In 2020, the company invested in reducing its process waste and providing a postconsumer glass recycling service to installers by commissioning machinery that could crush waste glass into what is known as cullet. This can be fed directly into the manufacture of new glass which not only reduces needless landfill waste, but it also cuts the volumes of virgin raw materials needed to make glass and saves energy as turning cullet into new glass requires less energy.
The scheme, which is run in conjunction with international glass manufacturer Saint-Gobain Glass, is continuously audited so Morley Glass can see exactly how much waste glass is being collected and the benefits it is delivering. The data shows that in two years, the amount of glass cullet produced by Morley Glass is equivalent to the weight of 150 elephants, saving around 325,000kg of CO2, as every tonne of glass cullet prevents 300kg going into the atmosphere. Over 920,000kg of sand, the main raw material for glass, has also been saved and the overall energy saving to SaintGobain Glass is calculated at 541 ‘energy years’ – that is the energy used by an average UK household in 12 months.
In addition to saving resources and energy, the recycling scheme has another important benefit for communities in West Yorkshire. All the money raised by the sale of the recycled glass cullet to Saint-Gobain Glass goes into a fund set up by Morley Glass called GreenVision. This offers £500 one-off grants to charities, individuals and community groups who are located in West Yorkshire and dedicated to providing environmental or social improvements in their local area. Ian Short, Managing Director of Morley Glass said: “What started out as a simple business improvement idea has snowballed into an initiative that is delivering far-reaching benefits at a time when environmental and social sustainability have become priorities. We are thrilled to reach our 1,000 tonne milestone in just two years, which clearly demonstrates how popular the recycling service is with our customers who can save money on waste disposal costs too.
“And of course, the more waste glass we are able to collect and process, the more support we can provide through GreenVision to local people and groups who are giving up their time to improve their local environment or deliver social benefits. Applying for a grant is quick and easy, so if this is you, please go to our website and submit a GreenVision application today!”
Morley Glass is also offering a free collection service to any window installer located in the Leeds area who would like them to turn their post-consumer waste glass into funds for the community. This can be arranged by calling 0113 277 8722.
Any eligible charity, group or individual interested in applying for a £500 GreenVision grant can do so at www.morleyglass.co.uk/greenvision-application-form/.

Our bespoke integral blinds are made to measure to suit all window and door applications (including bi-folding and sliding doors).
With only six months to go before the 2023 exhibition opens its doors, the Morley Glass team is busy progressing its plans for the next FIT Show with the focus on revealing even more integral blind innovations to the fenestration sector.
After the success of the 2022 show, Morley Glass and its exclusive integral blind systems manufacturer Pellini S.p.A. are working hard ahead of May’s event to be ready to launch a series of new developments for Uni-Blinds®, with two new products already confirmed for launch in April. All built with the world-renowned ScreenLine® systems inside, these are set to offer even more ways to tailor integral blinds to homeowner tastes and to meet commercial specifications.
Ian Short, Managing Director of Morley Glass said: “It may seem like only yesterday that the first show took place, but the 2023 FIT Show will actually be the tenth anniversary event. This longevity shows how resilient the show has been, particularly given the disruption of the pandemic, and demonstrates that it still the mustattend event in the industry’s calendar to get together and explore the best of what our sector has to offer.
“Speaking with our customers and supply chain partners, the FIT Show’s ‘everyone’s going’ slogan is as true today as it was a decade ago and we are already looking forward to being there again. Our experience of this year’s show was extremely positive, not only as a platform to present our current Uni-Blinds® integral blind systems portfolio, but also to get insights from installers about what they would like to see in future. This makes the FIT Show a truly unique event.”
The 2022 FIT Show gave Morley Glass an opportunity to launch several new integral blind developments which are already proving popular with customers. These included the symmetrical version of its top selling Venetian cordless slider integral blind system, the SV+, which is now selling in volumes of around 1,000 units every month, and ScreenView®, a new system designed specifically for hospitals where hygiene and infection control are crucial.
Ian adds: “We were delighted with the response we had to all our integral blind systems at this year’s show, but we know the service we provide continues to be as important to installers. That’s why we continue to innovate on both fronts.
“Our close partnership with Pellini ensures we can offer a standard 10-12 day lead time, backed with complimentary nationwide delivery, which helps installers to provide a quick turnaround for homeowners and end-users – no waiting around to complete the sale or installation. And our free post-consumer glass collection and recycling service helps installers save money and the hassle of arranging waste disposal, as well as being important from a sustainability point of view.”

We’re supporting Catch this Christmas
This Christmas we’re supporting Catch
If we are to endure a bleak mid winter, that isn’t good news for the vulnerable in society. The UK statistics on homelessness, unemployment, mental health issues and economic struggles sadly seem to rise while the NHS appears to have waiting lists for the waiting lists …and this is mirrored regarding Housing Association schemes.
When it comes to the housing market, graduates and young professionals continue to be priced out of the Capital. The financial watchdog is continuing to advise the elderly to consider downsizing to tackle the growing housing shortage.
The potential in off-site manufacturing is still of interest, and it is sending out a strong message, that demonstrates the effectiveness and viability of prefabricated homes as a solution to the housing crisis. Most construction focused expos this year have demonstrated that this is very much an area for development. Green building and conservation appear to be top of the list for discussion as climate change continues to dominate construction news.
Although prefabs create excellent options for helping to bridge at the ever widening gap in respect of reducing building and construction costs, thought must be given to overall quality of the properties particularly if the changes in climate, with unprecedented weather extremes continue to increase. With traditional housing build time being months over weeks due to the levels of engineering and craftsmanship involved, it is possible that weather extremes such as those we have had over the last few years, will help to demonstrate the standards of the finished prefab.
Architects have shown some concern regarding prefabricated options in that they could become an excuse for local authorities not to deliver affordable, long term solutions. There are clearly some advantages that can be gained from prefabs, especially as a good solution for housing the homeless.
No doubt costs and labour shortages will continue to have a negative impact moving into 2023, although that is not expected to be too detrimental to the overall picture.
Looking ahead to next year, despite sustained cost pressures and other challenges, there is still a lot of opportunity in construction. Infrastructure upgrades alongside smart-city initiatives will undoubtedly continue to increase as urban regeneration continues. Combining green initiatives into new commercial developments will also be a focus for some innovators - apparently, moss is a solution to removing some of the air pollution in bigger cities.
A new innovation is doing the rounds, well actually it’s main component is not that new as it has been around for billions of years - I’m talking about Moss. Varieties of the green new superhero can absorb air pollution and it is considered important ally in the continuing fight against climate change.
One company in Germany has developed some active moss filters, which can either be installed in street furniture or on building facades in urban areas. This new technology to maintain and regulate the moss, sucks warm and polluted air into the filter before pushing it out the other side. The mosses that have been specially cultivated can store up to 20 times their own weight in water and evaporate.
To stay ahead, industry leaders will need to define their new visions such as this and realign both their business and operational processes to accommodate the developments that technology and innovation bring to the sector.
Here’s to a positive outlook and an inspiring New Year ahead!
