COMMUNITY DISASTER READINESS FORUMS: BE READY TO HELP WHEN IT MATTERS MOST

Disaster response begins at the local level, with neighbours supporting neighbours and communities coming together. Two practical forums are being held in Urana and Corowa to empower residents to act safely and confidently in the face of a disaster. These “All Hands on Deck” forums, funded by the NSW Reconstruction Authority, will focus on how spontaneous volunteers can effectively support disaster response. The sessions will cover crucial topics including:

• How community response integrates with the broader emergency system.

• Understanding and managing local risks.

• Leadership, safety, and decision-making during a crisis.

• A hands-on scenario activity.

• Self-care and supporting others during emergencies. Who Should Attend?

The forums are designed for a wide range of community members, including sporting clubs, landholders, tradies, committee members, business owners, young leaders, new arrivals, and long-time locals –essentially anyone with a desire to help their community. Join Us:

• Urana: 9:30am - 1:00pm, Thursday 14 August, 2025, at the Waterfront Pavilion.

• Corowa: 9:30am - 1:30pm, Friday 15 August, 2025, at the Corowa Golf Club.
