EOI COROWA SKATEPARK MURAL AND YOUTH WORKSHOPS
Expressions of Interest (EOI) are being sought from artists to lead Youth Workshops and paint a Mural on the Corowa Skatepark shelter sheds and toilet block. The Federation Primary Prevention Team (FPPT) and Federation Council are looking for a creative team to bring vibrant new life to the Corowa Skate Park. This isn’t just about painting; it’s about young people. The successful artist will lead two engagement workshops with local youth:
1. A co-design session to develop the mural concept.
2. A hands-on workshop where participants customize their own skate decks.

TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES
Sanger Street - Federation Festival Grand Parade Council advises that the following temporary road closures will occur from 8:30am to 12:00pm on Sunday 25 January, 2026 associated with the 2026 Federation Festival Grand Parade. The parade commences at 10am.
• Sanger Street, Full Length
• Church Street, between Sanger Street and access to car parks
• Riesling Street, between Murray Street and River Street
• River Street, between Sanger Street and rear of IGA
• Isabel Street, between Sanger Street and Riesling Street
• Short Street, Full Length
• Mary Street, between Sanger Street and Queen at the Museum detours will be signposted and will be via adjacent streets including Parliament Street, Edward Street, Queen Street, Henry Street, Isabel Street, Alfred Street, Bridge Road, River Street and Riesling Street.
Motorists are requested to exercise caution and follow directions from Traffic Controllers.
Sanger Street - Overhead Bunting Uninstall Federation Council advises the community of temporary road closures on Sunday 1 February, 2026 for the Rotary Club to uninstall the overhead bunting.
• Location: Sanger Street will be temporarily closed along one block between Church Street and River Street.
• Time: between 6am - 8am.
Motorists are requested to exercise caution and follow directions from Traffic Controllers.
2026 BIN COLLECTION CALENDARS
Do you forget which bins to put out each week for kerbside waste collection?
No more guessing, download the 2026 kerbside bin collection calendar from our website or collect one from Council offices in Corowa, Howlong, Mulwala or Urana.
Some Helpful Tips:
• Be mindful not to overload the bins – maximum weight is 80kg.
• Place bin close to the kerb with the handle facing toward your property.
• Place your bin out the night before your collection day or by 6am on the morning of collection.
• Keep clear of overhanging branches and power lines.
• Please leave at least one metre between bins and other objects, including fences and vehicles. Find out more about waste services from our website.

COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM NOW OPEN
Federation Council is excited to announce that the 2025/2026 Community Grants Program is now open. This initiative empowers local groups to develop ideas, projects, and events that contribute to the vibrancy and connectivity of the Federation Council community.
Key Details:
• Maximum Grant: Up to $5,000 per applicant.
• Who Can Apply: Not-for-profit community groups, organisations, and clubs.
• Applications close: Monday 16 March, 2026.
Applications must be submitted via an online form, available from Council’s website. We strongly encourage all potential applicants to download and review the Guidelines document to ensure your project and initiatives are eligible for funding.
ON EXHIBITION
Local Orders - Unsafe and Unhealthy Premises Policy
At Council’s December ordinary meeting it endorsed the draft Local Orders - Unsafe and Unhealthy Premises Policy for public exhibition for a period of 28 days from Tuesday 6 January to Wednesday 4 February, 2026.
The purpose of this policy is to provide a clear, fair, and consistent framework for Federation Council staff and the public. It outlines how Council responds to community requests about private land that may be in an unsafe or unhealthy condition.
Council is inviting residents to review the draft policy and provide any feedback by 5pm, Wednesday 4 February, 2026.

AUSTRALIA DAY AWARDS & CEREMONY
Come along and celebrate Australia Day at the Federation Council Australia Day Awards & Ceremony to be held in Corowa at the Corowa Memorial Hall. There are 16 remarkable individual and group nominees for the 2026 Australia Day Awards who exemplify outstanding community service, leadership, and dedication to making a positive impact in their local area. The Awards are provided by Federation Council, and decided by Council’s Elected Australia Day Awards Panel. The ceremony commencing at 10am will include the announcement of the Federation Council Citizen of the Year Award, Young Citizen of the Year Award, Local Hero Awards for Community Group, Sports and Individual, as well as recognition of the Student Achiever Award recipients and Citizenship Ceremony. Federation Council is delighted to announce that John Harper OAM, founder of the mental health and wellbeing initiative and podcast series, Mate Helping Mate, will be the region’s official Australia Day Ambassador for 2026. A retired wheat and sheep farmer from the Riverina, John brings a profound understanding of the challenges faced by rural communities, who often struggle with social isolation and limited resources for mental health support.
Live entertainment by the Swag ‘n’ Billy Bush Band and a complimentary BBQ lunch accompanied by desserts infused with bush tucker flavours will follow the ceremony. Event starts 10am, Monday 26 January 2026.

FIREWORKS NOTIFICATION
The Rotary Club of Corowa has coordinated fireworks to fill the sky as part of the Federation Festival Concert as follows:
• Sunday 25 January, 2026 between 9:30pm and 9:45pm at John Foord Oval Corowa. Fireworks can be frightening for dogs, cats and other animals as they are loud and unfamiliar. To assist owners, Council has prepared a list of helpful tips for pet owners which can be downloaded from Council’s website.
