HOWLONG WATER INFORMATION MEETING

Federation Council is inviting all Howlong residents to an important community information meeting to provide an update on the ongoing Howlong Water Improvement Project. The session will offer insights into the progress made, current works, and future plans aimed at significantly enhancing water pressure and flow throughout the town.

Residents are encouraged to attend:

URANA & MORUNDAH FLOOD MITIGATION DESIGN PROJECTS

Federation Council at its May 2025 meeting resolved to publicly exhibit the draft detailed designs for the Urana levee upgrade and the Morundah flood mitigation designs. The draft designs will be on public exhibition for a period of 28 days from Wednesday 16 July to Wednesday 13 August, 2025. We offer several options for you to view the detailed design drawings, seek further information, or ask questions during the public exhibition period:

• The detailed design drawings and the supporting design report are available for viewing from Council’s website.

• Paper copies of the Urana levee upgrade design drawings are available for viewing at Council’s William Street Urana office.

• Paper copies of the detailed design drawings for the Morundah flood mitigation measures are available for viewing at the Morundah Hotel.

Any person interested in making a submission should do so in writing addressed to the General Manager, Federation Council, PO Box 77, Corowa, 2646 or by email to council@ federationcouncil.nsw.gov.au. Submissions will be received up until 5pm, Wednesday 27 August, 2025. We encourage all interested residents to attend these meetings and provide their valuable feedback on these important projects.

COROWA, HOWLONG & MULWALA FLOOD RISK MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Federation Council is seeking to fill two vacancies on the Corowa, Howlong, Mulwala Flood Risk Management Committee. The two vacancies are both for Mulwala residents. The Committee is to oversee the development of a Flood Risk Management Plan for the townships of Corowa, Howlong and Mulwala. This follows the completion of the Flood Study in 2024. If you are a Mulwala resident and are interested in nominating yourself to join the Committee, please complete the Community Membership Nomination Form available on Council’s Website. Expressions of interest must be signed and received by close of business Friday 8 August, 2025.

Federation Council advises that there are significant delays to all applications being lodged for each stage of the development process. Staff shortages, in conjunction with the increasing complexity of the NSW Planning Portal Processes required to be undertaken by Council has seen pre-lodgement assessment times increasing to 6-8 weeks and average determination times taking between 10-12 weeks. We ask you for your cooperation as Council officers concentrate on clearing the backlog of applications while maintaining all other legislated services.

Federation Council, being the consent authority has received an application (DA 10.2025.76.1) seeking development consent to construct a 72 Berth Marina with Primary Jetty and Harbour accessibility upgrades. Lot 292 DP1195096, Lot 398 DP823321.

The development proposed is for a 72 Berth Marina with Primary Jetty and Harbour accessibility upgrades and is defined as integrated development and designated development under the provisions of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. The application is referred to the following agencies:

Crown Lands, NSW Fisheries, Water NSW, Transport for NSW, Transport for NSW, Moira Council, Goulburn Murray Water, Murray Darling Basin Authority, NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment.

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST: COROWA SALEYARDS CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE

Federation Council is looking for a community representative to join our Corowa Saleyards Consultative Committee.

This vital committee meets twice a year, providing a direct link between Council and stakeholders. Its purpose is to foster two-way communication, ensuring Council is fully informed of stakeholder needs and priorities for the Corowa Saleyards – both now and into the future. The Corowa Saleyards is a significant facility, operating as the fifth largest sheep and lamb livestock exchange in New South Wales. It’s proudly owned and managed by Federation Council. BALD ARCHY PRIZE - SEEKING VOLUNTEERS

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help make the 2025 Bald Archy Prize exhibition a huge success! The exhibition will run from Saturday 16 August to Sunday 14 September, 2025.

Your help is vital to ensuring everyone enjoys this fantastic event. We need:

• Weekdays: Four volunteers daily (two from 10am - 1pm, two from 1pm - 4pm).

• Weekends: One shift from 10 am - 2 pm. Last year, over 30 amazing volunteers helped us welcome 1,200 visitors from over 170 different locations, including Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart, and even New Zealand! As a special thank you for your dedication, all volunteers will be treated to an exclusive preview event of the exhibition. This is your chance for a behind-the-scenes look at the artworks before the public unveiling!

Federation Council being the consent authority has received the above development application and in accordance with Section 2.22 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 the application is on public exhibition from Wednesday 9 July to Wednesday 6 August, 2025 inclusive.
