The programme contains lectures and debates, a monthly talk show, cultural and scientific events and a wide range of cultural courses and performances. Event A multimedia event about gender inequality in (pop) music, starting with an artistic debate with academics, artists and gatekeepers addressing the question ‘Is music (still) a man’s man’s man’s world?’ From 21.30 hours onwards, we showcase the best female DJs and MCs during a Hip hop Ladies Night. Theatre Play The Great Warmachine, updates perspectives on the current economy of warfare. War strategies are being utilized in corporate business, marketing and politics. Life has turned into a battlefield on which fears need to be managed and exploited. Three performers take the audience on a rhetorical trip surfing the waves of an immersive soundscape, seducing them to think differently about war. BANANA PANCAKES AND THE CHILDREN OF STICKY RICE Documentary Film with Q&A While backpackers visit a small village in remote northern Laos in search of a traditional experience, the inhabitants of the village discover the attractions of the West. Two worlds meet in the crossroads of their respective desire; the one longing for authenticity, the other for modernity. In this microcosmos, their encounter leaves no one unchanged and tells a poetic story of friendship and how we relate to others in a rapidly globalizing world. Director of this documentary, Daan Veldhuizen, will answer your questions afterwards.

Lecture by Olaf Koens How do you do business in Russia? Which obstacles do you encounter as an independent journalist? And how should Europe and NATO react to Putin’s expansionism? Olaf Koens has been working as a freelance news correspondent in Moscow since 2011. He reported extensively on Putin’s reelection, the annexation of Crimea and the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17. He was awarded the prestigious title ‘Journalist of the Year 2014’.
