COVID CRACKDOWN

Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau’s Missing and Exploited Person Squad recognized that school closures and the implementation of distance learning increased many children’s online presence and inadvertently placed them at higher risk of exploitation. In order to combat this risk, our detectives conducted a proactive operation to identify would-be predators. Our MCB in conjunction with our Organized Crime and Intelligence Bureau, conducted Operation COVID Crackdown in April of 2020 which resulted in 30 arrests and 68 felony charges.

COLD CASE WEBPAGE

The Cold Case Squad, founded in 1995, falls under the Major Crimes Bureau of the Fairfax County Police Department. The squad is responsible for the investigation of unsolved homicides and serial sex crimes in the County. On July 29, 2020, the Cold Case Squad announced the launch of a new public webpage to share information about these open investigations.

The webpage serves to provide information to the community as well as to reassure the friends and family members of these victims that although time may pass, our commitment to bringing them closure is resolute.

This past year, detectives assigned to our Cold Case Squad demonstrated their unyielding commitment to these victims by solving two cases through forensic evidence. These two sexual assaults, which occurred in 1998 and 2014, are excellent examples of how our detectives use today’s advancement in technology to solve crimes from the past.
