School Resource Officers

ADAPT AND OVERCOME

As a result of the pandemic, everyone had to make adjustments, including our School Resource Officers (SRO). While our SROs could not be in the schools, they were still able to help serve our community. Approximately twenty SROs were reassigned to our Community Reporting Service to help take reports over the phone in an effort to reduce the virus spread. The majority of our SROs supplemented patrol which proved extremely helpful when officers had to periodically quarantine to stop the spread of the virus.

LASTING IMPACT

Our SROs work with so many students, it is easy to forget the impact those interactions have. More than 20 years ago, MPO Gleason was the SRO at Robinson Secondary School when a then student, Joe Mannato, found himself heading down a difficult path. As a result of the time MPO Gleason spent with him, Joe knew he had to make a change. He joined the Army and served in Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. After many years, the two reconnected after Joe sent a letter to MPO Gleason for chaging his life and helping him become the person he is today.
