AI Summer Summit

Our summit brings together students aged 16 to 18 from across the globe to address the pressing challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in today’s world. Through a combination of presentations by keynote speakers in education and industry, structured debates and interactive discussions, students will refine their ability to analyse complex problems and articulate their viewpoints effectively.

In the afternoons and evenings, students will enjoy cultural activities throughout Edinburgh and participate in unforgettable Scottish experiences. This unique blend of academic exploration and cultural immersion provides an exceptional opportunity to develop the skills needed to navigate and lead in our rapidly evolving technological world.

Our Fettes Global AI Summer Summit is held within the stunning grounds of Fettes College in Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh. Fettes College is a world leading boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 5-18 and has a reputation for excellent academic results, the highest level of pastoral care and a proud sports tradition.

The Fettes Global AI Summer Summit is designed for students aged 16 to 18 preparing for their IB, A-levels, Highers or other final-year pre-university qualifications, and who are curious and passionate about creating positive change in the world. The summit will help develop critical thinking skills as well as organisation and expression of ideas within a respectful, supportive environment while seeking innovative solutions to today’s global challenges.

Fettes Global A lifelong learning journey

This year our week-long student summit will focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and will provide an enriching environment where students can deeply explore the ethical, social and philosophical dimensions of AI. This programme engage participants in critical discussions on pressing data privacy, algorithmic bias and the evolving role of the future of work.

By the end of the programme, participants will not only have a deeper understanding of AI and a strengthened set of skills to support their future endeavours and lifelong learning journey, but also a daily journal of reflections and lasting friendships with peers from diverse backgrounds, enriching their perspectives and creating a supportive, global network.

GUEST SPEAKER PRESENTATION

Students will attend daily presentations from distinguished guest speakers who are at the forefront of AI in business, technology and education. These experts will provide in-depth insights into how AI is revolutionising industries, the ethical challenges it poses and its transformative impact on educational methods and learning environments. Each presentation will include a Q&A segment, allowing students to engage directly with the speakers, enhancing their understanding and fostering critical inquiry.

By attending these sessions, students will develop key skills such as analytical thinking, as they assess real-world case studies; ethical reasoning, as they navigate complex moral questions; and an informed perspective on the integration of AI in various sectors.

Workshop / discussion / DEBATE

Dive into the dynamic world of AI in the engaging daily workshops which follow each guest speaker. The interactive sessions combine critical thinking, collaborative discussions, and structured debates to explore the multifaceted impacts of AI on society. Students will investigate the ethical, economic, and social dimensions of AI, weighing its benefits and challenges.

By the end of the workshops, students will have a greater understanding of AI’s complexities, honed their debating skills and developed an informed perspective on the technology shaping their future. These thoughts will be captured in their daily journal of reflections.

THINK SCOTLAND, THINK EDINBURGH...

This is the perfect time to experience the city and students will be captivated by the energy and creativity that fills every corner. Whether they’re into sports, arts, or eager to try something new, we have something for everyone. With a variety of high-quality activities designed to challenge both body and mind, they will find plenty of opportunities for inspiration and growth throughout the week.

As part of our Edinburgh city walking tour, students will visit Edinburgh Castle, which is the most visited attraction in Scotland. The Castle has a long, rich history as royal residence, military garrison, prison and fortress. As you ascend Calton Hill, students will be greeted by a collection of fascinating structures. The most prominent among them is the National Monument of Scotland.

Highland games

Students will participate in our very own traditional Highland Games, held on campus. Accompanied by the stirring sounds of a piper, they’ll engage in a range of Scottish activities, including Tug-of-War, Toss the Caber and various athletic events. This fun and energetic occasion not only showcases Scottish heritage but is also designed to foster team building and leadership skills.

CULTURE & CEILIDH

Our International Evening & Scottish Ceildh will offer students the perfect opportunity to learn about and appreciate each other’s cultures and ways of life with a special focus on Scottish culture. They’ll be able to have some haggis, our most famous food, as well as experience the joy of Scottish country dancing at the ceilidh.

Students stay in our flagship accommodation building in either single or twin rooms. Each room has its own shower and toilet facilities. There is a welcoming reception area as well as a comfy common room for students to relax and socialise.

PASTORAL CARE

Looking after the students in our care is our number one priority. By providing a carefully planned, well-organised and properly supervised programme, we do our utmost to promote our students’ safety and welfare at all times.

Our team and residential staff are responsible for supervising students throughout the day, during all activities, excursions and in Craigleith House.

Fettes College is sitiuated within a gated community and has a 24-hour security team to ensure a safe and secure environment at all times.

Scott Pye

Scott is delighted to lead the Fettes Global AI Summer Summit and brings extensive experience in directing summer camps and educational programmes, creating enriching opportunities for young people. From engaging AI workshops to exploring local culture and participating in active pursuits, he is committed to ensuring every participant enjoys a rewarding and memorable experience. By helping students bridge the gap between school and university, we provide them with valuable experiences while fostering new friendships with peers from around the world.

Academic & Activity Specialists

Our academic team will take the lead during the morning sessions, assisting keynote speakers, facilitating discussions and leading the daily debates. Their expertise will ensure that the sessions are thought-provoking, collaborative, and bring out the best ideas from all students.

In the afternoons and evenings, our activity specialists will guide the cultural, sports and arts programmes, immersing our students in the vibrant spirit of Edinburgh.

Whether exploring the city’s rich heritage or participating in dynamic team activities, our team will be there to ensure a memorable experience. Additionally, several specialist staff will contribute their expertise at key moments during the summit, providing deeper insights and leading unique sessions tailored to their areas of focus.

What’s included

Airport transfers

Students will be met by a member of our team and will be transferred to and from Edinburgh Airport and Fettes College.

Accommodation

En suite accommodation is provided within Craigleith House on the Fettes College campus.

Meals

Meals are freshly prepared and served in the dining hall by award-winning in-house chefs. This includes a continental breakfast, 3 course lunch and dinner. We cater for all dietary requirements

Lectures & presentations

Four morning presentations to inspire further discussion and debate from leading professionals within their industries.

On-campus activities

Activities include traditional highland games, fencing workshop, sports, International Evening and Scottish Ceilidh.
