Instead of dwelling on the negative events, the island used lockdown as a time for self-reflection. Whereas locals had grown used to using their creativity to prepare experiences for beloved tourists, they suddenly had the time to deeply tap into their culture and find ways to better their homeland only for themselves, and in turn, St. Maarten saw an influx of new initiatives and offerings.
