The field of communication design pursues a holistic approach in its teaching, since the growing diversity of design activities, which is subject to digital change, requires a broad spectrum of design and technical skills. This includes original graphic techniques as well as computer-aided tools. The Communication Design degree programme thus, in its entirety, provides a relevant multifaceted qualification.

This is ensured by a combination of intensive teaching of the basics and a diverse range of elective modules. As a result, the programme promotes the development of contemporary and multifaceted design portfolios for students and, through its practical orientation, imparts scientifictheoretical, technical and, above all, artistic-design knowledge and skills. The degree programme also provides the basis for an independent deepening of one's own design interests and the constant development of a future-oriented design attitude.

In accordance with the constantly changing professional profile, a curriculum has been designed which, in teaching the essential fundamentals, allows the necessary creative leeway for adaptations. This provides the basis for our adaptive degree programme and ensures continuous interdisciplinary connectivity with other subject areas and design specialisations. In addition to the subject-specific competence goals, such as sensitising students to visual issues, cultivating the ability to design systematically rischen Fachrichtungen. Die Fachrichtung Kommunikationsdesign zeichnet sich durch einen progressiven Wandel in den letzten Jahren aus. Mit neu besetzten und zu besetzenden Professuren erfährt die Fachrichtung eine personelle sowie inhaltliche Erneuerung und ist somit optimal für die Zukunft aufgestellt.

Die Gesamtheit der acht Professuren der Fachrichtung deckt die zentralen Bereiche des Kommunikationsdesigns ab und ermöglicht die theoretische Reflexion der designerischen und künstlerischen Praxis im Hinblick auf ihre historische Genese, ihren systematischen Zusammenhang und ihre kulturellen sowie gesellschaftspolitischen Rahmenbedingungen.

Das innovative Konzept bereitet die Studierenden zukunftsorientiert auf die Herausforderungen im Beruf transmedial agierender Kommunikationsdesigner*innen vor.

The field of communication design has been characterised by a progressive change in recent years. With new professors and professorships to be filled, the discipline is undergoing a renewal in terms of both personnel and content and is thus optimally positioned for the future.

The entirety of the eight professorships in the department covers the central areas of communication design and enables theoretical reflection on design and artistic practice with regard to its historical genesis, its systematic context and its cultural and socio-political framework.

This innovative concept prepares students in a future-oriented manner for the challenges of the profession of transmedial communication design.
