Your Steps for a successful transition to FAU

1. Review Your Acceptance Letter

Please review your acceptance letter for accuracy: name, address and entry term. Your acceptance is valid only for the term specified. Contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office immediately if any changes are necessary. Pay particular attention to your residency classification for tuition purposes. If you feel that your Florida residency status—listed on the bottom of your acceptance letter—is incorrect, visit www.fau.edu/ and click on “Florida Residency” for instructions. admissions

Now that you are a part of the FAU community, take time to review the following list of steps to assist you in making your transition to FAU successful and easy.

6. Submit Final Transcripts to FAU

Your acceptance to FAU is tentative based on the quality of your academic record when your file was reviewed. You are expected to maintain the level of academic performance at the time of your admission. Students are required to submit all final transcripts before the first day of classes at FAU in order to avoid any registration holds. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will make all final admission determinations based on your final transcripts. 2. Apply for Housing

If you will be living on campus, it is highly recommended that you apply for on-campus housing early. To apply, submit a housing contract and appropriate deposit to the Department of Housing and Residential Life. Students transferring with less than 30 credits are required to reside in University Housing depending on space availability and permanent address of the student. Contact the Department of Housing and Residential Life for additional information. Visit www.fau.edu/housing

3. Register for Orientation

Orientation is designed to make your transition to FAU as smooth as possible and includes academic advising. It is a mandatory program for all incoming students prior to registering for classes with the exception of second baccalaureate students and returning FAU students. Visit www.fau.edu/orientation

4. Submit Required Health Information

To comply with Florida Board of Governors Regulations, prior to registration, all students must submit; a signed FAU Immunization Form and documented proof of immunizations to measles and rubella. In addition, all students must provide documentation of vaccinations against meningococcal meningitis and hepititis B or provide a signed waiver for each declined vaccination. Students will not be allowed to register for classes until all documentation has been approved by the Student Health Service Immunization Office. 5. Apply for Financial Aid and Scholarships To apply for financial aid, complete an online Free Application for Federal Student Aid at www.fafsa.ed.gov beginning January 1. The FAU priority deadline is March 1. Email is the primary method of notification/communication between students and the Office of Student Financial Aid. Regularly check FAU Self Service on MyFAU for any financial aid missing documents because this could delay

MyFAU provides FAU students with both academic and non-academic resources. Once you are logged in, you may apply for housing, accept financial aid awards, review course offerings, register for classes, and check your FAU email account. All University communication is through your FAU email account. It is important that you check it on a regular basis. You will need your FAUNET ID/username to log in to MYFAU. It can be found at the bottom of your acceptance letter. Your FAU NetID will be part of your FAU e-mail address (e.g., FAUNetID@fau.edu). To find your username/FAU NetID and Z-number, visit the MyFAU webpage and follow the instructions online to obtain this information. Memorize your Z number as you will use this number to access your FAU student accounts and to register for classes. Visit http://myfau.fau.edu

8. Seek Advising

Group advisement sessions are offered for transfer students during the orientation program. All transfer students with fewer than 30 credit hours are advised through the Office of Freshman Academic Services. Check the appropriate college’s website for details regarding individual advising appointments.

9. Take the Math Placement Test (ALEKS)

FAU has adopted a mandatory placement exam to determine math proficiency known as ALEKS. All entering transfer students with no prior college-level coursework in mathematics are required to take the ALEKS test. Visit www.fau.edu/mathplacement

10. Access your Degree Audit

To access a copy of your audit (courses towards your degree), visit the FAU Self-Service section on MyFAU. Click on Student Services>Student Records>View Degree Audit (DARS)>Submit an Audit>”Run Audit” button>View Submitted Audits>Click on your degree program. The audit is an unofficial evaluation of your record at this time. If you have any questions regarding your audit or courses not appearing on the audit, please bring these to the attention of your advisor during your meeting or orientation.

Additional Information CAMPUS VISIT

Join us in the Office of Admissions on the Boca Raton campus for an information session followed by a walking tour. Tours are available Monday through Friday at 10 a.m. and at 2 p.m., and on most Saturdays during the fall and spring semesters at 10 a.m. Note that campus tours are not given on official University holidays, home football game days, Saturdays during the summer months or days that coincide with Open House events. International Students

International students are required to submit a Financial Certification Form as well as an original bank letter showing that they have the proper funds, in U.S. dollars, to support themselves during their academic career at FAU. Students who have an F1 visa transferring from another U.S. institution to FAU must complete an International Student Visa Clearance Form as part of the admissions process. FAU cannot issue an I-20 until this form is completed. Limited-Access Programs

For reasons of accreditation standards, state certification requirements, space or fiscal limitations, the Florida Department of Education has designated the undergraduate programs in nursing and architecture, as well as the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College, as limited access. The College of Business, the College of Engineering and Computer Science, the School of Communication and Multimedia Studies and the Department of Music are selective in the admission of students to their programs. Admission to FAU does not guarantee admission to a selective or limited access program. For specific entrance information on these programs, applicants should consult the appropriate college/department.
