The 10 Steps for a successful transition to FAU
Now that you are a part of the FAU family, take time to review the following list of steps to assist you in making your transition to FAU successful and easy.
How to obtain your FAU NetID and Z number: Your FAU NetID will be part of your FAU e-mail address (e.g., FAUNetID@fau.edu). To find your username/FAU NetID and Z-number, visit the MyFAU webpage and follow the instructions online to obtain this information. Memorize your Z number as you will use this number to access your FAU student accounts and to register for classes. Visit myfau.fau.edu for more information.
1. Review Your Acceptance Letter
Please review your acceptance letter for accuracy: name, address, entry term. Your acceptance is valid only for the term specified. Contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office immediately if any changes are necessary. Pay particular attention to your residency classification for tuition purposes. If you feel that your Florida residency status—listed on the bottom right corner of your acceptance letter—is incorrect, visit www.fau.edu/admissions and click on “Florida Residency” for instructions.
9. Take the Math Placement Test (ALEKS)
FAU has adopted a mandatory placement exam to determine math proficiency known as ALEKS. All entering freshmen, regardless of AP, IB, dual enrollment and CLEP credits are required to take the ALEKS test. Visit www.fau.edu/mathplacement
2. Submit your Required Tuition Deposit
All admitted freshmen must confirm their intention to enroll and secure their space in the class with a $200 tuition deposit. This non-refundable deposit will be applied toward your tuition and fees for your first semester at FAU. Complete the Tuition Deposit Form and submit your deposit no later than May 1 for summer and fall terms and December 1 for the spring term. 3. Apply for Housing
If you will be living on campus, it is highly recommended that you apply for on-campus housing early, as residence halls quickly fill to capacity. To apply, submit a Housing Contract and appropriate security deposit to the Department of Housing and Residential Life. All full-time freshmen are required to reside in University Housing depending on space availability and permanent address of the student. If you wish to apply for an exemption, contact the Department of Housing and Residential Life. All exemption requests must be received and approved prior to August 1. Participation in the resident dining program is optional for students living off-campus. A variety of nutritious menu options and meal plans are available. Students who are living in University Village Apartments and Innovation Village Apartments are not required to purchase a campus meal plan. Visit www.fau.edu/dining
4. Register for Orientation
Orientation is designed to make the transition to Florida Atlantic University as smooth as possible for you and your family members. The mandatory, two-day program promotes student development and accountability, and will provide you with information needed for a successful start to your academic career and exciting new experiences at FAU. Orientation is offered over the summer months for students enrolling in the summer and fall semesters, and is offered in November for students enrolling in the spring semester. MyFAU provides FAU students with both academic and non-academic resources. Once you’re logged in, you may apply for housing, accept financial aid awards, review course offerings, register for classes and check your FAU email account. Admitted students will receive communication from University departments through their FAU email account so it is important to check your email for important announcements. You will need your FAUNet ID/username to log in to MYFAU. Both can be found at the bottom of your acceptance letter.

To comply with Florida Board of Governors Regulations, prior to registration, all students must submit a signed FAU Immunization Form and documented proof of immunizations to measles and rubella. In addition, all students must provide documentation of vaccinations against meningococcal meningitis and hepatitis B or provide a signed waiver for each declined vaccination. Students will not be allowed to register for classes until all documentation has been approved by the Student Health Services Immunization Office. To apply for financial aid, complete an online Free Application for Federal Student Aid at www.fafsa.ed.gov beginning January 1. The FAU priority deadline is March 1 each academic year. The process of applying for financial aid normally takes six to eight weeks. Email is the primary method of notification/communication between students and the Office of Student Financial Aid. Regularly check FAU Self Service on MyFAU for any financial aid missing documents because this could delay awarding or disbursement of aid . All documents should be submitted by the first week of classes. Financial Aid award offers are based on full-time enrollment. Financial aid disbursements begin the third week of classes and are disbursed on the actual number of credit hours enrolled after the drop/add deadline. Scholarships are competitive and most are awarded early in the admission cycle. Most scholarships are awarded at the time of admission. Other scholarships require a scholarship application. 7. Submit Final Transcripts to FAU
Your acceptance to FAU is tentative based on the quality of your academic record at the time your file was reviewed. Applicants are expected to maintain the level of academic quality, which granted them admission to FAU. It is required that students submit all final transcripts before the first day of classes at FAU in order to avoid any registration holds. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will make all final admission determinations based on your final high school and/or college transcripts. Submit final transcripts to: Florida Atlantic University, Office of Admissions, 777 Glades Road, P.O. Box 3091, Boca Raton, FL 33431-0991.
Incoming freshmen will be advised online using OARS, the Freshman Academic Advising Services’ self-directed Online Advising Resource System. OARS will also provide instructions on how to register for classes using MyFAU. OARS offers students early access to academic advisors and allows students to register for classes prior to coming to Orientation. Students are encouraged to check their FAU email frequently (at least twice a week) for updates on accessing and completing OARS. The Learning Community program on FAU’s Boca Raton campus offers incoming freshmen the unique and engaging opportunity to enroll in courses and participate in out-of-class experiences with 20-25 incoming freshmen with similar academic goals and interests. We have over 25 Learning Communities to select from each year! Limited Access Programs
For reasons of accreditation standards, state certification requirements, space or fiscal limitations, the Florida Department of Education has designated the undergraduate programs in nursing and architecture, as well as the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College, as limited access. The College of Business, the College of Engineering and Computer Science, the School of Communication and Multimedia Studies, and the Department of Music are selective in the admission of students to their programs. Admission to FAU does not guarantee admission to a selective or limited access program. For specific entrance information on these programs, applicants should consult the appropriate college/department.

Campus Visit
If you are not able to come to Campus Day, please come to see us another time. We are always excited to see you! Join us in the Office of Admissions on the Boca Raton campus for an information session followed by a walking tour. The FAU Recreation and Fitness Center is a 77,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility on the Boca Raton campus where students can meet, relax and exercise.
