During the drawing process, lines are extended to help students to cross-reference parts of the whole observed scene.

By extending lines of observed edges they can accurately observe angles, scale and and spatial proportions. Recording the spatial interrelationships helps students to gain an understanding of how objects and spatial volumes can be integrated in a composition.
Drawing the figure or self- portrait
Drawing the figure or self- portrait in the context of a compositionally considered space enriches the understanding of human scale and movement. Again, integration of parts to create a whole is a primary objective. This introduces how the environment can be used to help express mood and narrative.
The skull is drawn and sculpted
This is a study of an extremely complex set of volumes that constute the skull. In order to sculpt an accurate replica, students learn how 2-dimentional representation can be can enhaced by studing something using the tactile sense.
A connection is made between drawing and sculpting and three dimentional design in general.
