D Es wird Herbst – Zeit, zu ernten. Und 2017 kann Fantoche eine reiche Animationsfilm-Ernte einfahren: 2’100 Wettbewerbsfilme wurden eingereicht, 50% mehr als in den Vorjahren, wobei eindrucksvolle Filme aus europäischen Ländern dominieren. Mit einem nostalgischen Blick feiern wir heuer den britischen Animationsfilm (solange dieser noch «europäisch» ist) und heissen unsere UK-Zeitgenoss*innen mit einem Augenzwinkern im «Offside Europas» willkommen. In der Stadt Baden, die Fantoche seit vielen Jahren grosszügiges Gastrecht gewährt, haben Menschen dreier Generationen ihre Lieblingsfilme ausgewählt: Im Schwerpunktprogramm «3 Generationen: Kino, TV, Web» wird die unterschiedliche Film-Sozialisation sichtbar, die diese Menschen erfahren haben. Freuen kann sich unser Publikum auch auf neue 360°- und Virtual-Reality-Experiences in der «Animation multimedial»Ausstellung, Langfilmpremieren, coole Workshops für Jugendliche, prominente Branchengäste wie Michael Dudok de Wit und viele weitere Extras. F L’automne arrive, et avec lui le temps des vendanges! Pour Fantoche, le millésime 2017 est d’une richesse inégalée jusqu’ici: 2100 films en compétition furent soumis, 50% de plus par rapport aux années précédentes, avec une prédominance de films européens hors pair.

Ce n’est pas sans une certaine nostalgie que nous célébrons cette année le cinéma d’animation britannique (tant qu’il est encore «européen») et que nous accueillons nos contemporains du Royaume-Uni – avec un clin d’œil – dans le «hors-jeu de l’Europe». Notre public se réjouira aussi de découvrir des expériences 360° / VR dans l’exposition «Animation multimédia», des longs métrages en première, des ateliers passionnants pour les jeunes, des invités de prestige tels que Michael Dudok de Wit, et bien d’autres extras.

E It is autumn – so it is time to bring in the harvest. Fantoche has harvested a wealth of animated films in 2017: over 2,100 films were submitted to this year’s competition, a 50% increase on previous years. The roster is dominated by striking films from a number of countries in Europe. This time around, we are casting a nostalgic eye on British animated film (while the country is still “European”) and – perhaps slightly impudently – welcome our UK contemporaries to Europe’s offside. In the city of Baden, which has played generous host to Fantoche for many years, three generations of people have selected their favourite films as part of the “3 generations: Cinema, TV, Web” programme. Our focus is the shift in film socialisation they all have experienced. Guests can also look forward to new 360° and VR experiences as part of the “Animation Goes Multimedia” exhibition, as well as feature film premieres, cool workshops for children and teenagers, leading industry figures such as Michael Dudok de Wit and much more.

Die Kurzfilmprogramme entstanden partizipativ: Senior*innen, Berufstätige und Kantonsschüler*innen – aber auch Kinder aus geflüchteten Familien – trafen die Auswahl. Employees at General Electric in Baden took time out of their lunch break to select their favourite films for this programme.

BREXIT: GOODBYE TO ALL THAT ?

D Das Programm bietet einen Einblick in die britische Animationslandschaft, die von Menschen aus ganz Europa mitgestaltet wurde. Mit der Entwicklung vieler Stile und Techniken sowie einer respektablen Anzahl internationaler Preise waren die 1990er-Jahre das «goldene Zeitalter» der britischen Animation. Die Anfänge des Aardman-Studios fehlen im UKSchwerpunkt genauso wenig wie Werke von Wahl-Engländern wie Michael Dudok de Wit oder der Gebrüder Quay. F Ce programme offre un aperçu du paysage animé britannique, qui a été conçu par des artistes venus des quatre coins de l’Europe. Avec un développement impressionnant de styles et de techniques, sans oublier un nombre plus que respectable de distinctions internationales, les années 90 ont été l’âge d’or de l’animation britannique. Les premières créations

des studios Aardman figureront bien entendu au programme de cette rétrospective UK, au même titre que les œuvres de quelques Anglais d’adoption comme Michael Dudok de Wit ou les Frères Quay. E This programme offers an overview of the British animation scene, an industry that was shaped by people from all over Europe. The 1990s are considered to be the “golden age” of British animation due to the development of a range of styles and techniques and a respectable haul of international prizes coming home to British shores.

For the festival’s focus on the UK, Fantoche looks at the early days of Aardman Studios and the works of artists who have settled on the island, including Michael Dudok de Wit and the Brothers Quay.

TABLE TALKS D Die Table Talks ermöglichen allen «Industry Day»-Teilnehmer*innen auf unkomplizierte Weise Informationen zu ausgewählten Themen zu erhalten, Kontakte herzustellen und gegebenenfalls Kooperationen zu initiieren. Vergangenes Jahr begeisterte er mit «La Tortue rouge». Im Vortrag schildert er, welche Etappen in seiner Karriere wichtig waren und wie es zur Kooperation mit den Ghibli-Studios kam. D Die Studienrichtung Animation der Hochschule Luzern – Design & Kunst ist eine feste Grösse in der künstlerischen Animationsausbildung, wie zahlreiche Festivalbeteiligungen und Preise zeigen. Das Programm vermittelt einen Querschnitt der Arbeiten sowie Ergebnisse eines international besetzten interdisziplinären Workshops in den Berner Alpen. F De nombreuses participations à des festivals et des prix à l’appui, la section animation de la Haute École de Lucerne – design et art est une institution incontournable dans le domaine de la formation d’animation artistique.

Le programme offre un aperçu de ces travaux ainsi que les résultats d’un atelier interdisciplinaire international dans les Alpes bernoises.

E The animation degree offered by the Lucerne School of Art and Design has made quite an impact among those studying or wanting to study artistic animation – as evidenced by the presence of alumni at numerous festivals and multiple awards. D Seit 1991 wird die Vergabe des Cartoon d’Or durch «Cartoon» aus Brüssel organisiert. Jedes Jahr wird mit diesem Preis die Crème de la Crème der europäischen Animationskurzfilme prämiert, denn nur die meistausgezeichneten Filme können am Wettbewerb teilnehmen. Die Jury besteht aus internationalen Expert*innen aus der Animationsindustrie. F Depuis 1991, Cartoon d’Or est organisé par l’association Cartoon basée à Bruxelles. Chaque année, l’organisation récompense le gratin des courts métrages d’animation européens, sélectionnant uniquement les 27

œuvres les plus primées. Le jury est composé d’experts internationaux de l’industrie de l’animation. E Since 1991 the Cartoon d’Or is organized by “Cartoon”, based in Brussels. It is made up of obsolete technology and scrap electrical products that Hofer has imbued with new life.

Since 2014, comics scholarships have been awarded by a number of cities in German-speaking Switzerland to the best cartoonists in the land.
