WITH TECHNOLOGY AND THE WIDE RANGE OF TVS OUT THERE, BUYING A TV IS NOT A SIMPLE PURCHASE – BUT IT CAN BE WHEN BUYING A TV FROM HIRSCH’S
Whether you’re a sports fan, movie fanatic, soapie slave or gamer, we all love our TVs, and when buying a new one, we need expert advice on what constitutes buying the best TV for our own particular needs. Thanks to Hirsch’s Ridwaan Khan at the Ballito branch – who is one of Hirsch’s top sales people – for answering these frequently asked questions. Q: How should you
determine what size the TV should be for the size of room it will be going into?
You need to allow yourself to be a certain distance from the TV while viewing it. For example, for a 55” you must be 3m away from the TV, for a 65” you should be 4m away, for a 75” you should be 5m away, and for an 82” you should be 6m away. Q: What resolution do
you recommend?
4K resolution is the most common and the best resolution. 8K resolution gives a more detailed picture, but there aren’t much 8K movies available for streaming at the moment as 8K is still establishing themselves. Q: What is the best
high-end TV to buy?
The high-end TVs available today are LG Oled, Samsung Qled and Hisense Uled. Q: What should one look
for when buying a TV to watch sport?
There are numerous points,

but one of the advantages that the LG Oled has is that it has a one milli-second delay. LG TVs have new advanced processors – Alpha 7 and Alpha 9 – and are considered the best in the market contributing to superb speed and causing less delay. Q: What would one look
for when buying a TV for gaming?
A Refresh Rate is important and here again the LG Oled has a special gaming feature as do other TVs. Q: What are the benefits of
buying a Smart TV?
It allows you to stream on YouTube, watch Netflix movies, Google movies and even stream on the DStv NOW app.

Power surge plugs – a must-have to avoid damage during power outages. Available from Hirsch’s.
Q: Can I unpack and
install the TV myself? If so, can you offer some tips on how to do this?
To unpack the TV, you must have two people to carry either side of the TV and to install. If installing on a wall, make sure it’s a dry wall. Brackets have weight and size restrictions that must be taken into account. Always unpack your TV on to a flat surface. If you are not sure and cannot install – Hirsch’s has qualified installers to do the job. Q: Is it advisable to buy an
extended warranty with a new TV?
Most definitely. Most TVs come with a two-year warranty, but the extended warranty covers the TV for an additional three years. This covers unlimited call outs, parts and labour. Should the TV break completely and cannot be repaired, it also covers replacement of the TV – T’S and C’s apply. Q: Are there any useful
tips you can give me with regards to caring for my TV if I live by the sea?
Always leave the TV on “stand-by mode” when not in use. This will allow less moisture to settle on the circuit board. Q: How do I prevent my TV
from being damaged during power outages?
For power surges, it’s advisable to buy power surge adaptors and multi-plug surge adaptors to connect to the TV. This protects the TV from being damaged internally with an increase overflow of power. H
