BONDING THRU TOUCH As we review the many baby products that come thru the mail to us each year, one thing we pay close attention to is the cost of the product vs. the benefit. This is a major concern for parents on a budget, so it is our concern as well. I would not be an honest person if I did not admit that some products really hold little value, yet their pricetag would incline you to think differently. These are the products that we decline a review of, as we just cannot jutify their value to our readers and we do not give negative reviews, so our only option is to opt out.

The Sleep Belt is a product we first reviewed in 2013. This product quickly stole our attention and our affection, as it is simply marvelous in the benefits it offers, both to mother and baby. It is easy to use, comfortable to wear and gives baby a sense of closeness and security, allowing for great skin to skin bonding and a sense of closeness that we want with our infants, while also allowing mom (or dad) the freedom to move and have free use of both arms while baby rests close.

eing a mom is not easy. You cook, you ckean, you help with homework. You kiss booboos and are the bad guy when you have to say no.

However, no job is ever as rewarding and the perks are outstanding! Where else can you get endless “I LOVE YOU’s” and HUGS and KISSES and a child who emulates everything you do and say because they worship the ground you walk on.,, So, if you are struggling, feeling out of sorts, and not feeling like the best mom in the world, cut yourself some slack, recognize the beauty of who you are and the power in your hands as you hold your child and help shape their future and the future of our world.

You, as a mom, are so vitally important. Do not undervalue your worth, Especially in front of your children. If they see you belittling yourself, they will think lowly of themselves as well. Help them to overcome the world by being positive about themselves, their family, their community, their world, and the important role they play within it.

Remember, at a young age they view everything thru your eyes. What do they see? What are you showing them? Are you showing them a world where they can go and become anything they want to be and be the change they want for the world and help to make it happen? Or are you showing them a dismal and distorted vuew, that says I cannot do it, I am a victim, I am powerless?

Rise above your current struggles. Rise above your current views. Show your child the world you want for them. Show them how you and them together can make that world more than a dream, but a reality!!

God is always speaking to us, and depending on what season you are at dictates what God is trying to show you. But aren’t there times when we have to relearn what God has taught us? What are ways that we can break this cycle? One way that has helped me is by creating memory stones. In Joshua 4 it talks about Israel creating memory stones to remember what God has done and brought them through. For me, I create symbols as my memory stones rather than physical items such as songs, rare events, or even a place.

I have theme songs for different seasons God has me going through and what God is doing in my life. I remember my first one was Jamie Grace “Beautiful Day.” However, the first memory stone God showed me was the song “Keep Making Me” by Sidewalk Prophets. The song talks about asking God to strip us bare so that all we want is Him, and I asked Him to do that for me because I wanted Him to be my one desire. As I was driving home one day from work, God asked me a serious question. In Matthew 19 a man asked Jesus how he could obtain eternal life. Jesus first responds with the commandments, but then the man states that he has done all of these. Jesus responds to leave everything he has and follow Him. God had asked me, “Are you willing to give up everything to follow me?” I started going through the check list of my car, my job, my friends, and to everyone I said yes with certainty. But then God asked me, “Are you willing to give up and leave your parents?” I hesitated.

Surely God wouldn’t want that, but I mentally prepared myself and said with certainty that yes, I would give up them to serve God. Thus, it created my first memory stone and first serious trial God brought me through.

God knew the relationship with my “parents” (mom and stepdad) was toxic and unhealthy, but I thought it wasn’t. From the moment He asked me that question, I was hit with events that would eventually have me move out. I moved out on peaceful terms, but the more the separation, the more God showed me how toxic the relationship really was. Issues were handled in a biblical way, but it all came down to ourselves. All of us had hurts and pain that were swept under the rug to fester, and all of us needed to deal with our issues separately before we came together. I went to counseling and group therapy and realized how to stand up for myself and to determine what was right and wrong through God’s eyes versus someone else telling me. I realized how God loves His children. God showed me what forgiveness, grace, and mercy really mean. God told me that for now, in this season, I cannot have them in my life because God is still working in them. I want to be clear that this is NOT me saying they can never be in my life, but it is just in this season.

How does this help now? Now I am more careful about asking God to change me! No, I’m joking. I actually do it more often because I remember that song. I remember what He brought me through.

I remember that during the struggles and battles, He was there to hold me. I remember that He is molding me to be more like Him. Now when God is trying to teach me something, I go back to that song, my memory stone, and remember that He took me out of a place to bring me closer to Him. I do not fear and I do not worry. I encourage you to create memory stones for yourself to reflect on what God has done in your life. What are the promises He has given you and when were they fulfilled? What did God teach you that you finally learned? Create a memory stone for these points in your life.

It is thattime of year when the sun is out in most areas of the country and people are beginning to leave the comforts of homed on adventures far and wide. While some enjoy cross country travel, for nany they prefer weekend getasways with the family, relaxing, enjoying one another.

Many times thiese adventures include camping. Camping is fun, relaxing and affordable. Camping is a favorite childhood memory for many of us and we like to carry that tradition on with our own children. From sleeping on a hard rock som time in our life, to waking up to flooding or a fallen tent, or a fiekd mouse running across our feet, what is there not to love about this scene?

While I enjoy the camping experience as much as the next person, the older I get the more amenities and products it takes for me to really enjoy the experience to its fullest ... #1 there has to be a bathroom facility of some sort.

Doea not have to be more than a portapotty or an outhouse that is upkept but it has to have that. #2 I need access to fresh water for washing up and for cooking needs. #3 I cannot sleep on the ground anymore with this back, so an air mattress is a must. #4 Cooking & baking, even when camping, is a main focus, so I need firewood, no burn bans and the right equipment to do the job.

Unfortunately burn bans are commonplace is Arizona, and rightfullly so. We lost 19 great men, the hotshots team that gave their lives fighting a forest fire near us, serve as a reminder as to how vulnerable nature really is.

In my search for some great tools for camping, or trips to the park to enjoy nature on a day trip, or to use in our own backyards, I have found some great treasures I want to share with you. These have been a delight and I know they will become a part of your outdoor routine once you try them too, as they simply make things so much easier and in many cases safer.
