Save our Sports Centre! Sport and Leisure charity Fusion, has launched an online petition to support a new sport and leisure initiative in Camden. The Mornington Sport & Fitness Centre could be transformed into a brand new leisure centre right in the heart of Camden or it could be bought by a property developer and be lost to the community. The future of the once-popular centre lies very much in the balance. In need of a major investment, the council recently had it closed, but plans are now afoot to completely redevelop the site and add

news Tatty Bumpkin Tatty Bumpkin and Baby Bumpkin is a small local company operating in North London. Dai and her small team of teachers take pleasure in delighting every child. We are proud to say that all our teachers have a natural respect for children. Tatty Bumpkin specialise in yoga inspired classes and parties. Baby bumpkin classes help promote feelings of calm within both the parent and the child. Babies from 3 months to 2 years go on a yoga inspired journey every week. The sessions help the babies to reach their developmental goals in a nurtured and calm atmosphere. Tatty Bumpkin classes are best suited for children age 2-8. The classes are adapted depending on the age and ability of the children in the class. The classes are held in toddler groups mainly in the Enfield and Winchmore hill area. Dai also runs afterschool, breakfast and holiday clubs within the schools in Enfield. Dai spent her childhood in and out of children’s homes and foster care and now feels passionate about giving something back to vulnerable children. She says her “most magical moments happen within nurture classes where the children may have learning or emotional difficulties” “to see a child gain confidence and be able to do something that he never thought he could do is just wonderful” “I am so proud to be a small part of their lives”
Yoga helps to maintain children’s innate flexibility and develop muscular strength and endurance. Equally important is the fact that yoga improves mental focus, imagination, self-belief and a sense of fun. This serves to build a strong foundation for children to expand their confidence, become aware of their body, and learn new skills. Doing classes together with their friends helps everyone to have fun and releases tension whilst helping them to concentrate on their schoolwork. Daily moderate activity is proven to have benefits on the mind and body, including increased energy levels, more confidence and higher levels of satisfaction. Even more importantly, regular activity can reduce the risks of health related conditions including obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Hence the on-going promotion of government initiatives such as Change4life, which encourages people to make healthier lifestyle choices and the ‘Healthy lifestyle’ criteria now included as part of Ofsted inspections. Apart from the obvious physical benefits, regular practice of yoga can make you “mindful”, i.e. thinking before you act. Children who practice yoga often report that they sleep better and are less anxious, and yoga has been shown to improve concentration and the quality of their relationships with less conflict being reported. Studies have proved that yoga can improve the behaviour of children with ADHD. For more information contact: classes@winchmorehill. tattybumpkin.com www.winchmorehill.tattybumpkin.com.

When it comes to the health and nutrition of a newborn baby, the mantra has long been ‘breast is best’. Expert help is on hand to assist with positioning; latching on, appropriate clothing and a healthy diet; but even with the best made plans pain and discomfort is a frequent problem.
Breast pain relief for new mums I
nnovative breast warming pads researched and developed in Sweden and the UK, have been helping to protect and support tens of thousands of Swedish mothers every year from the pains and conditions associated with breast feeding. The pads utilises NASA technology and uses a mother’s natural body heat, to help prevent and cure problems including mastitis, engorgement, blocked ducts and nipple vasospasm. They also provides fast and effective relief from hard, sore or lumpy breasts and can help with expressing and blocked ducts. They are also ideal for new mothers choosing not to breast feed and having to deal with milk reduction. Prevention is better than cure, the pads are also recommended to be used immediately after birth as a
protection against any potential breast pain problems. The pads slip inside the mother’s bra and need no other equipment such as electricity, microwaves or other heat producing assistance to work. They are light, slim and very comfortable to wear. Ideal for mums on the go. The pads, which are shaped for maximum comfort and can be worn day and night, they have received the backing of midwives, including Dr Jill Bruce who highly recommends the breast warmers to her patients. Breast Aids are currently available to buy online. Further information on Breast Aid can be found at www.enviro-pod.co.uk

Dr Hilary Jones gives birth to his first App for mums-to-be
Ease chicken pox misery Chicken pox season peaks in March to May with a majority of cases of the varicellazoster virus reported in these months – and it leaves everyone uncomfortable as your child’s agonising itch can prove a testing time for a parent.
Britain’s favourite media GP, Dr Hilary Jones, has launched an App to help mums find everything they need to know about pregnancy and the beautiful baby, or babies, growing inside them. The App – for iPhone and iPad – gives exclusive access to 30 videos and scripts, from conception through to a safe, healthy pregnancy and delivery, and addresses common concerns. Removing the medical jargon, the videos cover five sections – early pregnancy, a week by week guide, complications, concerns, and the birth. Each is then subdivided into topics including conception, nutrition, smoking and drinking, your body week by week, ultrasound scans, coping with common problems, pre-eclampsia, and pain relief in labour. Dads have their own dedicated video to help cope with any nerves and apprehension, and enable them to share the magic, and support their partners. A “Bump Log” uses the iPhone and iPad 2 cameras to the full by creating a photo diary of the growing baby bump. A built-in guide frames the mum-to-be consistently, then stores photos on the App and the camera roll. IPad 1 users can import photos independently. The App is supported by Vitabiotics Pregnacare, the leading prenatal multivitamin for mums-to-be. Dr Hilary has helped deliver many babies over the years, and seen them grow into healthy happy kids. He also has five children of his own, and has been through all the trials, tribulations, excitement – and worries – that expecting a baby entails. He said: “With 700,000 babies born in the UK alone every year, the most common questions I get are about pregnancy and children. This App is designed to provide mums, partners, friends and relations, with easily understood, practical knowledge, to help them enjoy a happy and healthy pregnancy.” The Dr Hilary Jones’ App is available via: www.drhilaryjones.co.uk or directly from the App Store.
he concern that scratching can cause further irritation, possible infection and scarring can mean it feels hard to take an eye off them even for a moment, but a few simple tips from Eurax, an over the counter itch relief cream and lotion, helps all the family through it with their sanity – and skin – in check. The Eurax top tips to stop the Chicken Pox itch: • Dress your child in loose fitting clothes, preferably smooth, cotton fabrics to avoid irritating the skin • Instruct children to rub with an open palm rather than itching with fingernails, and keep fingernails clipped very short • Fresh air helps so don’t shy away from allowing them to enjoy the outdoors – as long as they’re not interacting with other children • Strip their bed of sheets and blankets – additional material that gathers while they sleep can irritate the skin • Sleep is key – for your child’s body to recover and mum and dad to regain energy. Sleep while your child sleeps. The active ingredients of Eurax soothe irritation to provide up to 10 hours of relief from itching, meaning a restful sleep for all Most of all – stay positive. While it’s a week or so of your lives, you have to put all plans on hold and embrace it. Keep busy to distract your child’s mind from the itch and make it fun – even when in the incubation phase. Stock up on their favourite treats and activities like baking, drawing and movies to put a smile on their face, and yours. Containing crotamiton, Eurax gets to work quickly and effectively to help soothe and moisturise the skin, and can offer up to 10 hours relief. Eurax tackles the itching and skin irritation associated with ten different skin conditions; chickenpox, dermatitis, eczema, allergic rashes, hives, nettle rash, insect bites & stings, heat rash, sunburn and personal itching Contains crotamiton. Always read the label. Always consult your doctor before using.
What could be better Who doesn’t love the idea of millions of small folk dashing round the house covered in chocolate and stickiness hell bent on destruction??
think I hear the collective groan of OH NO! But one thing is for sure Every parent will be met with the PLLEEASE can I have a party at some stage, and as with all things in life a safe and solid plan is needed with many back ups along the way! Which is where we step in to help!!! Fear not Families North have researched and hunted for the best children’s party advice in town so here it goes: Madeline Carrick from Dreamcatcher Parties describes below how to have the ultimate day (and still remain alive) Parties should be a fun and exciting occasion for all involved! Parents too! If you think back to your childhood
and the special memories that have stayed with you it is for sure that a memorable birthday party will be among the archives! As a child your imagination is at its best ,your mind open to creativity, new ideas and having fun. Birthday parties are a wonderful opportunity for children to have fun and embark on an imaginative adventure through fun games, silly dancing and story telling, Creating a day to remember forever. Madeline’s biggest piece of advice would be to keep it simple don’t attempt too much or draw it out too long, all children’s parties are chaotic, but there is a difference between organised chaos and havoc. Planning the party shouldn’t be a chore: Pick a theme and go with it, you will be surprised at just how many ideas spring up from this alone. The most popular themes include fairies, Pirates, princesses and wizards and for the older kids more sophisticated ideas of superstars, jewellery making and pampering
parties. Talk with your child and see what their idea of a great party is! Most will surprise you with creative and inspired thinking that will lead to a great day for all involved. Then look at the decor with so much available online and in the many party shops around you will defiantly be spoilt for choice. Decorate your space with Brightly coloured Helium Balloons and streamers this will transform many a sterile looking hall or room with the minimum of fuss and these can be bought relatively cheaply on ebay in good quantities. Also source ‘themed’ items from ebay and online party sources, and with a little creative thinking your venue will take on a life of its own which always creates a great party mood. Next enlist help! Never be afraid to ask for help from others a good party is made better and easier by the number of hands on deck, most parents and friends will be only too keen to stay and lend a hand so make sure that there is a definite job for each of them , making tea, laying out the food . taking photos and going to the loo. This list is endless, make your life easier and

than a party!! give it lots of thought beforehand! Trust us you will thank yourself later! You must decide what type of party you want to have and where, we have looked at themed parties which are an obvious choice and an excellent starting point for any party, but nowadays the tea and cakes at home of our childhood has given way to entertainers and a vast array of party themed venues all of which are highly recommended. A good entertainer will bring your party to life and keep the children enthralled while you get on with the more mundane tasks of sandwich cutting and drink pouring! Before you think to yourself that entertaining children for a couple of hours yourself is no big deal I hasten a word of
caution entertaining Other Peoples Children is no mean feat and should only be attempted by the very brave trust us on this expert help in the form of an entertainer is WELL worth the investment and should be considered above all else! This leads us on to where should you hold your party: The sensible answer here is as far away from your home and beloved possessions as possible! Consider whether you really want 25 three year olds thundering through your lounge covered in cake and smarties! This is where a party venue comes into its own. Most are extremely spacious and are well used to handling children en masse! There are many available options from indoor playcentres, zoos child friendly restaurants and lastly spacious halls available to rent for this very
purpose. The cost of these varies tremendously but consider whether or not you want a five hour clear up job when the last child leaves or if you would rather head home and put your feet up for a well earned rest! The choice is yours, I know what I would choose. One good tip to remember is that these venues tend to book out months in advance so a little forward planning is necessary to avoid disappointment! Below follows our North London Loves guide to the best Party entertainers and Venues.

party party party par Top Tips to follow:
Its all in the timing: for small children 11am-1pm or 12-2pm works best. Most will have been up at the crack of dawn and are past their best come afternoon. For older children a lunchtime slot or mid afternoon works well unless they want an evening disco! This is at your discretion!
Liaise with other parents
whose children may be having a party at the same time, this can avoid double booking and children being invited to two separate parties on the same day which always leads to disappointment. Joining forces is also another good way forward as it helps to split the costs and the headaches!
Keep food simple: Most children will not eat a great deal, too much excitement and other interesting things going on will inevitably ensure that most of what you cater for ends up in the bin! Just remember lots of juice and water as drinks are always popular and bear in mind for any allergies or intolerances.

Activities this Easter The holidays are a’ coming and the endless weeks of the Easter break loom ahead, long and empty. You’re bored of the park but don’t want your kids stuck in front of the TV, so why not enrol them in one of the many clubs and classes running during the holidays.
rom drop-in groups to week-long camps, there’s a whole array of activities out there. From football, rugby, tennis, horseriding, swimming, martial arts, archery, gymnastics and trampolining to ballet, drama, arts and crafts, pottery, design, leaning a language, cookery, science, music, chess, puppet making, clay modeling, princess camp and even beauty camp (a little scary!), there
are more activities on offer than ever before. Holiday activities can be a great experience for children: classes can play a big role in children’s physical and intellectual growth, whilst working with others helps them learn cooperation and teamwork. Activities can give children confidence and while they learn their new sport or instrument they are having fun and, most importantly, making friends.
Top tips • Deciding which activity to choose can be hard – consider your child’s interests and temperament but try not to label them too rigidly. Just because your child is shy doesn’t mean drama should be off the menu • Don’t limit yourself to the familiar — try something new. Even if your child shows a special talent and interest in one activity, make sure they get exposed to others too, although if you do find something your child is passionate about, don’t hesitate to encourage it • Check the fees involved – there may be hidden costs such as uniforms or
costumes • If your child is a reluctant joiner, find out what activities their friends are doing. With some children, who is more important than what • It’s important that children have at least some unstructured time at home to play, relax, even get bored. Remember that a little boredom can be the fountainhead of exploration and creativity

Happy Mother’s Day Dr Lin Day, founder of www.babysensory.com
In the UK, Mother’s Day will be celebrated on Sunday 18th March 2012. It is the one day that families can thank mothers officially for their love, care and support throughout the year. Christianity, people honoured the Virgin Mary by returning to the church in which they were baptized on the fourth Sunday in Lent. In the late 15th century, the practice became ‘Mothering Sunday’. It was later widened to enable working mothers to be reunited with their families. The tradition of celebrating motherhood eventually blossomed into what we now know as ‘Mother’s Day’. There are lots of ways to show mums how much they are valued and appreciated. Here are just a few: Planning
other’s Day is celebrated in over 40 countries. Although there may be cultural variations, mothers are usually honoured with flowers, cards, gifts and special gestures of attention. Dads may cook, clean and look after the children, allowing mums to relax and enjoy the day as a special ‘thank you’.
Mother’s Day origins Mother’s Day can be traced back to the ancient Egyptians, who held an annual festival to honour the goddess Isis, the ‘mother of the pharaohs’. In Rome and many other societies, honey cakes were eaten and flowers were given in honour of the ‘great mother’ goddess Cybele. With the development of
To ensure that the occasion is an enjoyable and memorable one, planning and preparation is vital. According to retailers, Mother’s Day is the second busiest period after Christmas, so allow plenty of time for shopping. Mother’s Day is also a busy time for amusement parks and restaurants and advance booking is therefore essential. Long distance calls also peak on Mother’s Day, so keep the telephone handy. Breakfast in bed Start Mum’s day with breakfast in bed. Smiley pancakes, heart-shaped toast

mother’s day Gifts Homemade gifts are more meaningful and unique than shop bought ones. Ideas might include homemade biscuits, dried lavender or soap wrapped in muslin and tied with a ribbon, a family photograph in a homemade frame, a friendship bracelet or a hand decorated mug that Mum can use everyday. When the children see Mum smiling, they will know that their efforts have been worthwhile. or a slice of Simnel cake accompanied by a cup of tea, her favourite book or magazine will give Mum the chance to relax, or maybe open her cards and gifts. Cards
Voucher Mum may like a gift card so that she can select the perfume or jewellery that she wants. However, a ‘help’ voucher, which includes promises to wash up on Monday, a foot rub on Tuesday, setting the table on Wednesday, or good behaviour all week, will be appreciated even more. Household chores
Mum will appreciate and value a homemade card much more than a bought one. Toddlers can personalise the card with hand prints or scribbles. Older children can make up a special message or poem. Cards can be put on her breakfast tray or left around the house for Mum to find. The children will be inspired to try out imaginative ideas and Mum will treasure the keepsakes for many years to come.
Great Gifts for Mum on Mother’s Day
Giving Mum the day off will show her how special she is. Whether it involves emptying the washing machine, putting away toys, preparing lunch boxes for school the next day, brushing teeth, making the beds or doing homework without being asked, Mum will enjoy the break. It will also give the children the chance to model adult behaviour, which is good for their development, and it will give the whole family more time to have fun together. Flowers In the UK, a bunch of spring flowers, violets, carnations or roses are traditional Mother’s Day gifts. Other popular flowers include orchids, which come in different colours, shapes and sizes. If Mum enjoys gardening, take her to a garden fair or nursery, where she can choose her own arrangements
Let mum record her lifetime. A generation keepsake to be handed down throughout the years. Designed to allow anyone to literally record the events of a lifetime, the My Life Story diary will help you to remember the special moments you have experienced, the friends you have made, the places you have visited, achievements, favourite books and films, ambitions and much more. The diary features a map of the world and one of your body to be filled in as you wish. There is space to record every year what’s Important in your life and add photos and memorabilia. So much nicer than tatty notebooks or online blogs, the diary will become something that you treasure and is suitable as a gift to yourself or anyone else, even new babies whose parents can start to fill it in for them. My Life Story, in black or neutral, 1080 pages, £34.95 from Folly, www.follyhome.co.uk. Tel: 01455 631984.

mother’s day or plants. Alternatively, a bouquet of paper or tissue flowers will encourage the children to try out their creative skills and provide a lasting reminder of the occasion. Whichever flowers or plants Mum receives, she is sure to love them.
out the table and help with the washing up. Themed bunting, plates and table decorations will add to the ambience, and Mum will appreciate and treasure the occasion. Bubble bath Treat Mum to an anti-stress bubble bath complete with scented candles. An inflatable bath pillow will provide the ultimate in comfort, although Mum may not want to come out of the bathroom.
Outing One of the best Mother’s Day gifts is spending quality time with the family. Ideas might include a trip to the zoo or beach, a nature ramble, a cycle ride through the countryside or a walk through a wild-flower meadow. End the outing with lunch or afternoon tea in Mum’s favourite pub or restaurant. If the outing is carefully planned and packed with entertaining things to do, it can be a wonderful experience for the whole family. Picnic A picnic hamper filled with mouthwatering food from smoked salmon to gourmet cheeses and chocolate truffles will be a special treat for Mum. The children can prepare heart-shaped biscuits and sandwiches and Mum will enjoy sampling the finished products. Dad can supervise the preparation to ensure that the play is safe.
Favourite film Take Mum on a woodland picnic. The sun filtering through the trees will be a memorable sight. The children will enjoy exploring and they will burn off excess energy and sleep better at night, which gives Mum and Dad a chance to enjoy quality time together. If it rains, lay out the picnic on the living room floor. A special treat Although it may not be possible to take Mum to Paris, pamper her with an evening meal complete with French food, twinkling lights and French music playing in the background. The children can make the decorations, set
At the end of the day, snuggle up with Mum under a quilt and watch her favourite DVD together. Chocolatecovered strawberries and popcorn will go down well with the whole family. Simply giving up time to be with her will make Mum feel loved and valued. Family photograph Have the camera charged and ready to capture the occasion. Mum will keep the photographs along with special cards, homemade gifts and other Mother’s Day mementos. When Mum looks through the memories, she will reminisce about the day when she felt so special.

Best thing about being a mum “I love that whenever I come back from not seeing my girls for even a short while, I get a huge smile and clapping from Isabella and a big run up, hug and kiss from Annabelle, it makes me feel totally full of joy and love.” Shirley, mum of Annabelle aged 3.5yrs and Isabella aged 1yr “Best thing of being a mother is bringing someone to life, being able to take care of them. I would say how blessed I am to have 5 beautiful children, sometimes I say to myself how did I get to be so lucky. My daughter’s laughter and smiles, bring me so much happiness.” Celestine, mum of Grace “The best part of being a mother is seeing the smile on my son’s face and shine in his eyes as he crawls towards me after a long day at work and knowing that the bond between mother and son will last even when this image is just a memory.” Colette, mum of Hatim
“Knowing that I raise a happy, healthy and successful daughter and son, and they are part of myself, forever.” Lucy, mum of Shaun and Chantel

Special Needs Welcome to our new Special Educational Needs page. Each month we aim to highlight learning, physical and mental disorders and offer advice and guidance from professional therapists and specialists.
n the field this month we focus on Auditory Processing Disorder, APD, which has been specially written by Usher Patel who is a learning difficulties specialist from the Raviv Practice in London. Please feel free to contact us with any suggestions or advice you can offer to other parents and families. Usha Patel Learning Difficulties Therapist Talks about auditory disorder that is often over looked. Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) is a condition where those with normal hearing constantly mishear what is said. Whilst APD is of neurological nature and that it may be inherited or caused as a result of developmental problems, research has also shown that early childhood ear infections can be a significant contributory factor in causing it. Children develop critical language skills between the ages of 6 months to 3 years. Language centres within the brain learn to map out sounds and store it for language processing. When a child starts reacting to words with a smile or start speaking its first words, it is effectively associating these sounds with meanings. If, a child suffers from constant middle ear infection during the critical period, then the ability to process language/speech can be affected. Sounds which normally become imprinted in the brains memory and language centres are not properly established. The mishearing happens because the brain recognises aural information differently to what they actually are. A good example is commonly found when children can’t differentiate between thirteen and thirty. Whilst hearing can be perfectly normal their brain just cannot process those sounds accurately due to their similarity. This inability of the brain to process what is heard accurately results in the Auditory Processing Disorder condition.
APD is a often difficult to diagnose in children as they may have other learning difficulties such as dyslexia, attention deficit disorder, dyspraxia, which may mask the condition. It also cannot be established with standard hearing tests – It can only be diagnosed using specialist audiology testing. Children with APD have also been observed to: • Have trouble paying attention to and remembering information presented orally • Have problems carrying out multistep directions • Have poor listening skills • Need more time to process information • Have low academic performance • Have behaviour problems • Have language difficulty (e.g., they confuse syllable sequences and have problems developing vocabulary and understanding language) • Have difficulty with reading, comprehension, spelling, and vocabulary Without proper intervention, those with APD can find it confusing to interpret verbal information. This problem is further exacerbated when in a noisy environment or when there are competing sounds around them. In a
class room situation, if the child is not at the front of the class room or paying full attention, distracting sounds can make learning incredibly challenging. Some of the ways in which help for APD can be offered, as suggested by National Institutes of Health, are: • Environmental modifications such as classroom acoustics, seating and placement. • Auditory memory enhancement, a procedure that reduces detailed information to a more basic representation, may help. Also, informal auditory training techniques can be used by teachers and therapists to address specific difficulties. • Exercises to improve languagebuilding skills can increase the ability to learn new words and increase a child’s language base.
The Raviv Practice London has a specifically designed APD questionnaire for those concerned about this condition. www. ravivpracticelondon.co.uk/quest. html February 2012 © Usha Patel. Raviv Practice London.
Hi kids, parents, grandparents, teachers – and book lovers everywhere! I’m Ed and here is my Spring book selection for you to enjoy. The books are all available online from Ed’s Reading Room at www. edontheweb.com.
Ed’s Ed’s Reading Room is an exciting free online book and story club for primary children in homes and schools. Each month, recently published books are selected as Ed’s Books of the Month for Owlets (age 5-7) and Owls (over 7s). On the website, there are fun literacy activities to accompany each book, including wordsearches, quizzes, poetry and reviews, and there are new original stories in Edtime Stories. There are also lots of other fun online activities, complementary to the curriculum. Check out Ed’s Archive for Ed’s Books of the Month from previous months. For ages 5-7 years
Seahorse Stars: The Lost Lagoon
‘This is a lovely story about determination and friendship with great illustrations throughout. Why not collect all the books in this super series!’
More Meerkat Madness By Ian Whybrow (HarperCollins £4.99)
Ed Says: ‘The young meerkats adore Uncle Fearless but they are not happy about his new female meerkat friend so they decide to go and look for their mama who has gone missing. They come across a young lion cub also looking for his mother. Once assured they are not going to be eaten by him, they agree to help him and so embark on another adventure in the desert. But problems arise. Will there be anyone to help them in their hour of need? ‘This is a delightfully funny story for newly confident readers to enjoy on their own or for reading together – another romp through the desert with these lovable meerkats!’
By Zuzu Singer (Usborne £4.99)
Ed Says: ‘Cammie can’t wait to become a Seahorse Star but the next Wave Wanderer task is proving a bit of a problem. Finding her way around Rainbow Reef with a compass is fairly easy but Cammie gets into a complete muddle with maps. Will Cammie be able to complete the task successfully? And can she trust Corinetta who is usually far from friendly but now seems to want to be Cammie’s friend?
For ages 7 years plus
Wild: Tiger Trouble By Lucy Courtenay (Hodder £4.99)
Ed Says: ‘Taya and Tori Wild are twins who argue about most things – except about animals which is just as well as their lives revolve around them. Their father is a wildlife photographer and their mother looks
after animals in need in their home, currently two tiger cubs. When their father becomes ill and can’t travel for work they start a new business with animals for films. Things are about to get really wild for the Wild family! ‘Here is an exciting and entertaining story for boys and girls alike, particularly for animal lovers. If you enjoy this book, look out for the other stories in this series.’
Lily By Holly Webb (Orchard Books £5.99)
Ed Says: ‘Lily’s family were once powerful magicians but now hide away largely unseen. While Lily is allowed to roam around doing as she pleases, her sister Georgie, as the special one, is being trained in magic. Lily no longer resents her sister as she decides she is very lucky not to be seen as special. When Lily discovers their mother’s dark plot involving dreadful spells and magical weapons, she realises she must rescue Georgie. ‘This is the first story in a wonderful new series. It is action-packed – a real page-turner of a book.’ Ed’s Reading Room is part of www. edontheweb.com, a DTI award-winning website. It was created by Maggie Humphreys, a teacher of more than 25 years, and Les Snowdon, who together are authors of several books on fitness walking and healthy eating. You are very welcome to contact Maggie on 01753 730019 or by email at email@example.com about the website or about Ed on the Web Spelling Bees in schools.

The Anna Fiorentini Theatre & Film School for 4-18 years The North London branch of the Saturday Anna Fiorentini Theatre & Film School is currently taking applications for the forthcoming term and the next Taster Day. The school originally opened in Hackney in 2001 and now has over 250 students aged 7-18, many of whom have gone on to secure professional work on TV, Film and in theatre, including Charlie Jones who played Ben Mitchell and Belinda Owusu who played Libby Fox in the BBC series EastEnders.
