Local News New Laser Tag at Manic Monsters!

Manic Monsters in Edenbridge have added a new section to their existing play frame and built a new play frame for the exclusive use of Laser Tag parties. The guns fire an infrared beam that enables players to compete in solo and team games, players keep track of how many ‘lives’ they have and how many ‘hits’ they can make.

Jingling for Children in Need Jo Jingles will be raising money for BBC Children in Need in their classes during the week of 11th November. During the last 9 years of fund raising Jo Jingles East Surrey and East Grinstead has raised over £15,000 for the BBC Children in Need appeal.

The 10th year of fund raising sees a special programme in Jo Jingles classes with the theme “Let's take to the skies for Pudsey!”

The children will dress up as a flying character. Fairies, wizards, butterflies, bats, ladybirds, birds, pilots, astronauts and even Supermen will be attending classes! No doubt Pudsey Bear will end up flying up and down on a parachute! Children attending Jo Jingles classes are welcome to invite guests to join in with the fun.

Jingle Babies as young as 3 months old can learn new songs and play little instruments at the weekly Jo Jingles classes. Babies can join libraries Did you know that even babies can borrow books from Surrey’s libraries? All they need is their very own Pebble the Penguin library card, which is available from birth to five years old.

Every Surrey library has a special area set aside for children so their parents and carers can relax and choose some books, DVDs and story CDs to take home. There’s also a huge range of board books and picture books, perfect for sharing with your baby.

Call in for a Rhymetime session for babies and toddlers, with nursery rhymes and musical instruments.

Just speak to a member of staff who will be able to give you your baby’s card and tell you about all the upcoming library events for kids.

Modernising Dorking Sports Centre Dorking Sports Centre will be under new management from 26 November 2013. DC Leisure will begin work in December to improve the gym and its changing facilities. The café will be modernized and will offer a new range of healthy food options.

British Wildlife Centre supplies red squirrels to the Scilly Isles The British Wildlife Centre (BWC) near Lingfield in Surrey is helping to establish more colonies of red squirrels around the UK.

A group of twenty of the Centre’s red squirrels recently travelled in style to the Tresco, one of the Scilly Isles, thanks to the Royal Navy. The squirrels will enjoy a free-ranging life in the woodland of the beautiful Abbey Gardens, free from competition from the grey squirrel.

The British Wildlife Centre is home to Britain’s first walk-through red squirrel experience, where visitors can stroll in a wooded copse and view these beautiful and increasingly rare creatures close at hand.

Ice Skating

Reigate’s own real ice rink!

Reigate On Ice is, like last year, in Reigate’s Priory Park - but this year the rink will be made of real ice! The Matthews Organisation, specialists in funfairs and regular providers of traditional events in Priory Park, are bringing their 26m x 12m ice rink to the park, opening on 5th December and running until 5th January 2014.

Not only that – this year’s rink will be undercover in a festive Big Top, 40m in diameter, so that no matter what the weather, the skating will be just as much fun!

A carousel, dodgems, helter skelter, kiddies car ride, hoopla hook, a Santa game with prizes and bungee trampolines will all add to the attraction. A wide range of food this year includes hot chestnuts, freshly cooked crepes and doughnuts plus a bar with mulled wine, hot cider and beers.

Expect to see the Big Top arrive in the park before the end of November! It then takes 4 days to build up the ice in layers and get ready for opening on 5th December. It will be located just outside the Morrisons entrance to the park, by the tennis courts.

OPENING TIMES: 5th December – 20th December: Mon-Thurs: 11am-8pm; Fridays 11am-10pm; Sat & Sun 10am-10pm. Off peak times are 11am-3pm weekdays during this time.

From 21st December – 5th January: Daily 10am-10pm. (No off peak). The rink is closed on Christmas Day. Tickets cost £30 for a family of four, £24 off peak. Child <16yrs £8 peak; £6 off peak. Adults £10 peak; £8 off peak. Sessions are 45mins. Arrive 15 mins early to fit your skates. Smallest skate size is child’s 8 (27 European). The largest is adult size 16! Debbie Cook is launching Monkey Music Redhill & Reigate in January 2014. Monkey Music provides lively 30-minute weekly music classes that are both entertaining and educational. The classes are small and tailor-made to captivate the children using catchy music, percussion instruments and visual props.

Dunottar joins Reigate group Dunottar School, Reigate has recently become part of the Reigate Grammar group of schools and is now operating as a senior school for girls aged 11-18.
