Our Mission Since 2000, Families In Schools (FIS) has served low-income, communities of color knowing that education remains the pathway out of poverty for many families. FIS’ mission is to involve parents and communities in their children’s education to achieve lifelong success. Children are more likely to succeed when schools, families, and communities work together in partnership to maximize and support academic performance.

Our Work Developing and implementing workshops for families on issues including early education, family literacy, and college planning Training school staff on effective parent outreach strategies Advocating for policies that foster parent engagement Creating awareness campaigns on key educational issues

Highlights Engaged 500,000 families through education awareness campaigns Impacted more than 140,000 families through workshops Trained over 3,600 school-staff on parent engagement strategies Successfully advocated for more funding to parent centers, greater choices for parents, and higher quality schools

Alliance Summit & Parent Engagement Awards is a statewide dialogue with family, education, business, philanthropic, and community leaders who work in partnership to boost academic achievement for all students. It is the fundraising vehicle that allows a platform for the parent voice while showcasing the work of Families In Schools. Alliance creates a space where participants can: • Learn about effective policies and best practices that address the needs of students and families.

• Become familiar with strategies to close the achievement gap for high need students.

• Learn how to embed effective family engagement practices into programs and policies.

• Celebrate leaders in the field of parental engagement.
