Live the life of victory Tumelo Lebambo Many Christian books talk about Victory and how Jesus died for us so we could live victoriously, but they do not offer practical day to day examples of how one can live such a life amidst challenges, poverty, stress and unemployment. Live the life of victory by Moses R Zwane a young author from Ximhungwe (Bushbuckridge) is an easy to read inspirational book that uplifts one's state of mind and emotions.

The author himself went through quite a number of challenges in his life and in his book he narrates how he overcame those challenges and how he did not let anger, resentment, regret and poverty hold him back from achieving his goals in life. A passage in the book talks about how throwing paw paw seeds to the rubbish does not hinder the tree from growing and producing edible fruits.

4 initiates die at initiation school

Authorities say they will shut down illegal schools .

Kwamhlanga- The MEC of health MR. Gillion Mashego urges all parents to take their children to a prescreening before going to initiation schools to try and minimize the high rate of death in initiation schools, last year there were approximately 3200 initiates in the province and 22 initiates lost their lives during the Ingoma season.

The ingoma forum this year wanted a 0.00% death but so far they've lost 4 initiates though their information can't be discussed because it is confidential. The chairperson of traditional leaders in Mpumalanga Kgoshi L. Mokoena sent condolences to the families of the bereaved and said “if it is discovered that the death was caused by negligence, we will be hard on the person in charge of that particular initiation school, we don't want people to turn our tradition into a money making scheme”.

Kgoshi Mokoena added that the ingoma forum and traditional leaders are monitoring the initiation schools in the province and that they face many challenges along the way but they have managed to sustain all situations.

Children are advised not to go to initiation schools without their parent's permission and parents are requested to familiarize themselves with how the Ingoma forum works.

Medical doctors were not allowed to circumcise initiates in the past but things have changed now and they are allowed to do so to minimize deaths.

The Ingoma law says if you want to go to an initiation school, you must be sixteen (16) to be initiated, though other provinces allow children below 16 to be initiated because they believe that the younger you are the quicker you heal. Prescreening can be done at any clinic this is to know what kind of illness the initiate has so they can know what to expect.

All illegal schools will be investigated and closed down. The owner of the school will face the law and the initiates will be taken to a legal school. “Children must be prescreened before going to initiation school that's our plea” said Mashego.

Melody Dhlamini (25) from Thulamahashe has launched a modelling agency called mellow revamp. Dhlamini is a chemical engineer by profession but she is also passionate about modelling and beauty, hence she established her own agency to assist aspirant models with professional coaching.

Quintine Mkhonto In His Graduation Gowns

By Staff Reopoter Stanley Mkhondo sold his taxi four years ago to pay for his son’s registration fees at the University of Pretoria because he believed in the boy’s future. Last week, Mkhondo (45) was rewarded for that sacrifice when his son Quintine graduated with a BSc degree in actuarial science at the age of 19. Quintine wrote matric when he was just 15 and completed his degree within the prescribed time frame.

“I didn’t even know what actuarial science was when Quintine told me he wanted to study it,” said Mkhondo. “I just knew I had to make it possible for him.”

Quintine grew up in Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga with his mother and grandmother. His parents separated when he was young and his father now lives in Soshanguve near Pretoria.“My teachers thought I was bright enough to skip a few grades and I went along with it, not realising what was really happening,” said Quintine about how he finished school so quickly.

By Staff Reopoter Initially, he wanted to study medicine, but applicants require 80% for maths to qualify and he obtained 78%. “The first year at university was a big adjustment because I was barely 15 and suddenly I had to do my own washing and cooking. But I knew I had to work hard because my parents had made so many sacrifices for me.”

He rented a room near the university and his parents sent along what little money and food they could. The rest of his studies were funded by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme. Mkhondo said the taxi was his only source of income when his son needed the registration fees.

“I worked at Bavaria as an operator, but the company closed its offices in Gauteng and I was unemployed.

That’s when I started to drive people around in the minibus,” he said.

Quintine said it was a tough decision for his father to sell the taxi, and that he had no source of income for a while after that.

Two police officers were granted bail following their first appearance in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges of corruption and possession of dagga (cannabis).

Mkhondo now works as an operator at SA Breweries.

The proud father said that he knew his son was extraordinarily smart when he was still a young boy.

Quintine is now doing his honours and also works as a tutor at the department of actuarial science. He plans to open his own investment firm one day and is currently part of a group of graduates who teach residents in townships about investments.

Constables Andries Nkosi, 35 and Lucky Mashigo, 36 along with civilian Rose Owuse, 34, were arrested on Wednesday after the crime intelligence unit received a tip-off.

“On arrival they found two constables on duty and in full uniform travelling in Nkosi’s private car with a bag of dagga in the vehicle,” Mpumalanga police spokesman Sergeant Gerald Sedibe said.

He said the bag contained compressed dagga and had an estimated street value of R35 000.

It was believed the officers had solicited a R2000 bribe from Owuse and were waiting for payment when they were arrested, Sedibe said.

Owuse appeared in court with them and was also granted bail on condition she surrender her passport and report to Kanyamazane police station every Monday.

Patient on hospital rooftop SanParks demands to speak to Zuma

By Duduzile Phiri Kabhokweni- A man who attempted to commit suicide at Themba hospital, near Kabokweni after climbing on top of the roof on one of the buildings for more than 30 hours threating to kill himself has been transferred to Rob Ferreira hospital.

Police successfully brought him down of the roof of Themba Hospital, on arrival at the Rob Ferreira hospital the man was sedated and admitted at the psychiatric ward, on the same day the man was kept on the bed and was not viewed as a threat as he was sedated, around 19:00 the man went out of bed and escaped through a door which is used as an entrance to the court yard where psychiatric patients relax .

The man was immediately spotted by security guards who gave chase, once on top of the roof of the hospital, the man threatened to commit suicide again by jumping off the roof but security guards managed to pounce him before he could jump. He was immediately put in a seclusion room and is currently undergoing physiatrist treatment, and he will be kept in the hospital until he is mentally stable.

Social media has been going crazy with his story, with many social users stating that he says he wants to speak to the president before coming down.

He is also said to have physically assaulted his grandmother and later ran to the rooftop when elders tried to reprimand him.

South African National parks (sanparks) has rejected claims by the Economic freedom fighter (EFF) that the remains of persons in a graveyard in Bushbuckridge are those of victims of poaching fatalities in the Kruger nation Park (KNP) the allegations are devoid of substance.

The Mpumalanga Department of health has already clarified that the graveyard in question, the Saselani cemetery contains the remains of persons who could not be identified and were given pauper burials from the provincial Department of Health in line with standard government protocols.

Burial of this kind is a common practice around the world, when bodies are unclaimed from the state for a period of time, whether it's a natural on unnatural cause.

DR. Edna Molewa said “this reckless statement by the EFF should be rejected with the contempt that it deserves, this is clearly a political ploy that seeks to score points at the expense of government as we continue to battle wildlife crime”.

In each and every incident that happens in Knp involving contact with armed poachers, the South African Police Services (SAPS) attends to the crime scene and does a full investigation, forensic specialist is in attendance in all such cases, the SAPS opens docket for all incidents, police are fully in control of this kind of cases.

“We view the statement as tactic intended to divert our attention from the real criminals by encouraging the communities to believe that KNP is a war zone, poaching of wildlife is a real problem confronting this country and it must never be used to play police games” said Molewa.

Molewa added that such inflammatory remarks could cause serve damage to the good relation between the organization and the communities living around KNP, the communities of Bushbuckridge in particular are playing a leading role in working with SANParks to stamp out rhino poaching inside the KNP. Such statements are clearly aimed at undermining this good relationship.

SANParks calls on all citizens to work in unison and refrain from making divisive remarks that undermine the national effort to combat wildlife crime.

By Duduzile Phiri Ka Msogwaba- Thabo Nhlabathi known as DJ two six and Sthembiso Maseko known as Masemula are currently busy with radio imaging, where they are working with community radio stations situated in Mpumalanga and two (2) which are commercial radio station situated in Gauteng province.

They are also radio presenters at a community radio station kasi fm, music producers, radio production producers and DJ'S. They entered the radio industry early in 2007.

Since then they have released a number of music singles which have gone on to brand and establish them as musicians in the province. The Duo says they are motivated by DJ Christo's, and that they have managed to overcome the challenges that the industry threw at them while they were starting out.

“People did not want to book us for their events; they had no faith in us.

Between 2011 and 2015, grants and salaries/wages/commission were the main sources of income for households headed by older persons, accounting for over half of the distribution share. Over 3, 1 million of persons aged 60 years and older were recipients of an old-age grant in 2015 compared to 2, 7 million in 2011.

Only 22, 9% of the elderly in South Africa were members of medical aid schemes in 2015. The percentage of persons aged 60 years and older who were covered by a medical aid or medical benefit scheme or other private health insurance was highest amongst elderly white (73,5%) and Indian/Asian (33,9%) persons. Only 6% of black African elderly persons and 16, 6% of coloured elderly persons were members of medical aid scheme. The three health conditions most common amongst the elderly persons were high blood pressure (45, 3%), diabetes (15,8%) and arthritis (13,8%).

With grants being the main source of income amongst the elderly in South Africa, this means that many households in SA depend on grants for survival. Basic needs like food, water, sanitation etc are going to be more difficult to afford for the majority of South Africans. The junk status means that the poor are likely to become poorer.

We know that this season can bring about stress that is uncalled for and financial strain for different families if their children go to initiation school without permission. Going to initiation school is of paramount importance amongst many Africans and it is a passage from childhood to manhood for males.

Parents must prepare their children in all aspects before they undergo the process, so that they know what to expect and how to deal with the changes that will happen to their bodies.

During a press conference held at Kwamhlanga recently, the Mpumalanga department of health reported that (4) initiates have died at initiation schools this year.

Though the number of deaths occurring have decreased over the years, it is still worrisome that deaths occur. Ingoma is one of the cultural activities that many highly uphold and pride themselves in; therefore it should not bring about any emotional trauma. Food is traded on international markets in dollars. The prices of rice‚ maize‚ sunflower oil‚ wheat and sugar are set in dollars. That is why a weaker rand means we pay more for food‚ especially if it is imported.

Economist Dr Azar Jammine said: “If the rand goes into freefall and reaches R16 or R17 to the dollar‚ inflation will rise‚ so will food prices and the petrol price will rise.

Households will suffer.”

Food‚ petrol‚ and the cost of your loan won't be the only things going up. Taxes could also rise. The government borrows almost monthly to pay its bills as it spends more than it earns. Many institutions such as banks are not allowed to invest in junk status debt.

Junk status ultimately means the government will pay much more to borrow money. The government then has two choices: to cut spending or increase taxes to cover the extra costs spent on debt. That means there is less money for all other government spending on education‚ health‚ the actual debt‚ social grants and infrastructure.

Just a week ago we celebrated world press day but for us as journalist there is not much to celebrate, considering the fact that we work under unfavorable conditions where we are prone to emotional and verbal abuse from society and the police. Our journalist's phone was broken down by police just for taking pictures of police cars escorting taxis from Acornhoek passing through Hazyview. This happened despite the journalist having shown the police his press card. This goes to show just how unfree we are as the South African press.

It does not just end there, there are many horror stories that journalists encounter when working on the field, we dodge rubber bullets, stones etc from police and protestors at times. We know the nature of our job tends to get dangerous at times but law enforcers are also not very media friendly and we end up not knowing where to go for protection. This must come to an end. Police must be taught how to deal with media.

Up close & personal with spinster Sam-Sam Thubane Prudence Mokoena Car spinning, popular known as car drifting is an extreme motorsport born in Japan in the 1990's and it has been spreading to the United States, United Kingdom and Africa. since 2010 Every twice a year drifters from all around the country have been gathering at the Numbi spin city to compete against each other to be titled, the ultimate spinster. Drifting is a spectacular and wild action motorsport one can be part of, stunts like jump outs and anticlockwise are the most thrilling says Mlungisi Shaun Maliti, mechanic engineer for Team Numbi since 2012 who says his involvement in this sport taught him passion and to always think outside the box.

Nicolaas Jacobus know as Nico Lee who is a midfield player for cheetahs will miss the four to six weeks of competition due to ankle injury, he is likely to be available after the June break, this it is considered as a big blow for the midfielder as he would have been contender for South Africa.

Lee has a grade two ankle injury, his partner, Clinton Swart also picked up a rib injury against the Bulls but he will be playing again, on the other positive side it seems Flyhalf Fred Zeiling has recovered from injury and he is available for the team again.

Samuel 'Sam-Sam' Thubane winner of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN SPIN 2016 says he chose this sport because of the adrenaline that it provides, he says he has been in love with fast cars from childhood .

“This sport has taught me so much in life, the responsibilities of controlling a car and the dangers that come with it because it takes real courage to go behind the wheel, it also taught me to learn about different spinners and I have been to all walks of South Africa and neighboring countries through car spinning” Says Sam-Sam. The have been challenges for the spinster, having to balance between school and being on the playground

because not only is he a performer but passionate about being in the transport business. His inspiration is to work hard in both sport and school. He also mentioned that spinning is an expensive sport and wishes that organizations can provide sponsorship for skilled disadvantaged young people to showcase their talent.

“I wish to open a center one day where I will empower and train young people in the sport because it is not yet popular like other sports.

There is more to it than just spinning, there are safety procedures to be adhered to and it requires a lot of practice and dedication like many other sports”.
