Editor’s Letter

And just like that, the hottest months of the year are here. While the whole world waits for summer to enjoy the outdoors, we stay inside our comfortable, temperature-controlled homes. We eat good food, get pampered with spa treatments and enjoy summer deals at the most amazing hotels in the country. However, we also dream about destinations around the world, mostly summer spots where the sun is a little gentler than here. For our combined July & August issue, we uncovered partnerships between luxury fashion brands and hotels – stylish takeovers for a posh lifestyle experience in chic escapes. We also selected unique stays offering exciting experiences for the season.

Hot weather wardrobe, here we go! Find out what to wear on our fashion pages and which beauty products to choose for a hydrated and glowing estival (a new word learned this month, synonymous with summer). We got pampered at Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay with a full-body massage – our way of enjoying the heat.

However, if you are looking for a full-on local summer getaway, Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel's Endless Summer Escape deal is the way to go.

Talking about having a break, I had the chance to head to Madrid for a quick yet restorative trip. My stay at NH Collection Palacio de Tepa was beyond perfect for exploring the charming Spanish capital in the way I like best: on foot! Don't miss out on the read.

As you know, food is an essential theme for us. We visited The Diplomatic Club for a Japanese meal in Nassayem Qatar –a pleasant destination offering delectable dishes from a cuisine we are very familiar with.

This issue's drive was behind the wheel of the new Volvo XC90 B5 and, as enthusiasts of SUVs, we had quite a blast. Summer might be the best time to get a new car, I'll pin this thought.

I leave with a saying that sums up the season for me: life is better in flip-flops. Enjoy your summer!

A global celebration of craftsmanship, culture and collaborations makes it to this month’s news roundup.

Drive in Style

To mark Porsche Italia’s 40th Anniversary, Ferragamo and Porsche have worked on two exclusive models: the 911 Carrera 4 GTS and the Taycan 4S. Both cars feature Blusogno, a bright blue with violet undertones drawn from Ferragamo’s ready-to-wear collections and iconic Hug bag. “When Porsche asked Ferragamo to contribute to this Anniversary, the main idea was to change as little as possible and focus on refined details. Because Porsche is already perfect,” said Leonardo Ferragamo, the luxury fashion brand's chairman. Crafted by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, the design combines the finest Italian craftsmanship with German engineering. White fine lines accentuate the car’s aerodynamics, while the interior features white leather piping and elegant Blusogno detailing on the steering wheel, console and paldao wood trim. The wheels carry the same theme, hand-painted blue along with red Porsche crests. A custom car cover completes the set, featuring white piping, a Porsche crest and Ferragamo branding.

Nomadic By Design

London label QASIMI collaborates with ASWAD, a Parisian leather workshop, on a new accessories collection that reflects shared Arab roots and a passion for contemporary craftsmanship. The capsule reinterprets functional leather goods through a nomadic, design-focussed lens. The collection includes a structured, smooth leather backpack with oversized pockets, two grained leather belt bags featuring roomy interiors and practical front compartments and a pair of detachable belts for a more modular styling. ASWAD’s founder, Sonia Ahmimou, whose background includes time at Hermès, Moynat and Louis Vuitton, brings sensibilities rooted in Moroccan heritage and French savoir-faire. “I appreciate the idea that one can wander with their home on their back,” she says of the collection’s ethos. Together, the two independent labels present a collection that speaks to identity, movement and the evolving language of contemporary Arab design.

Denim Deconstructed

Levi’s and sacai return with a collaboration that pushes heritage denim into more experimental territory. Known for its hybrid silhouettes, the Japanese label brings its signature deconstruction to some of Levi’s most iconic pieces. The women’s collection includes a sculptural denim jacket mixing multiple Levi’s archive styles, a bib-front jumpsuit with camisole straps and flared legs and a matelassé twill jacket layered from the inside out. For men, the featured product is a reversible blouson with sharp tailoring on one side and a Type II denim jacket on the other, featuring custom hardware, selvedge trims and sacai’s anchor buttons. A unisex ultra-wide seven-pocket jean with a reversible belt completes the drop. Shot by Craig McDean and styled by Karl Templer, the campaign channels James Dean’s free-spirited rebellion, a touchstone for sacai’s Spring and Summer 2025 collection.

A Friendship of Music and Time

Audemars Piguet (AP) marked its 150th Anniversary with a soulful new track, Suzanne, composed by longtime collaborator DJ, producer and songwriter Mark Ronson and new AP family member, the singer and songwriter RAYE. Unbeknownst to the duo, the name they’d chosen for the original track resonated deeply: Suzanne Audemars, a key figure in the brand’s founding story, gave the track emotional weight. This musical partnership is part of a longer journey. AP’s fascination with sound dates back to 2006, when it launched an eightyear research programme with EPFL (the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) and expert musicians to perfect its chiming watches. “The APxMusic programme is an extension of our commitment to nurturing creativity and talent. We are so excited to bring RAYE and Mark Ronson together, in time for our 150th Anniversary, to present a wonderful, original track that will resonate for years to come,” said AP CEO Ilaria Resta.

Sugar Rush

Tory Burch is bringing a sweet twist to its summer staples with a limited-edition collaboration inspired by Swedish candy company BonBon. The Miller sandal and mini Fleming hobo bag come coated in beaded “sugar,” reminiscent of sour gummies, while pastel-coloured Miller and Kira Sport sandals channel soft marshmallows in banana, strawberry and vanilla. Earrings and charms are shaped after Tory’s favourite treats – salty liquorice twists and sour fish. Packaging and dustbags arrive in the confectioner’s signature pink and blue. This is BonBon’s first-ever product collaboration and a personal one as Tory discovered the brand in 2018 and has been gifting their pick-and-mix bags ever since. “Tory was one of our first supporters. This beautiful collection showcases the authentic colours and textures only found in Swedish candy. Each piece reflects our motto that growing up is a trap,” says BonBon cofounder Selim Adira.

TWICE THE FUN

Pomellato revives a vintage motif into a reversible jewel, featuring rare turquoise and marking a quiet move into men's jewellery.

Pomellato’s Pom Pom Dot 2025 Collection is a continuation of one of the brand’s most playful and quietly clever lines. Centred around a button motif first seen in a 1974 archive necklace, the pieces are designed to transform with a simple movement, revealing two distinct faces in one elegant form.

Newest in the collection is the reversible ring, a compact mechanical feat that conceals a rotating mechanism within its smooth structure. A delicate turn reveals either a turquoise disc framed in warm rose gold or a polished rose gold surface traced with a diamond-set thread. The turquoise is particularly rare, completely free of the matrix patterns usually found in natural stones and brings a clean, vivid contrast to the surrounding gold and diamonds. The same combination appears in the bestselling pendants and bracelets, joined by delicate earrings in single gold with white diamond accents.

Another key colour pairing is malachite and mother-of-pearl. Deep green malachite meets the gentle glow of pearl in both the reversible ring and newly introduced drop earrings, each featuring the signature button motif. Like the turquoise version, the malachite ring transforms with a twist, revealing either stone depending on the mood. The earrings are remarkably versatile: their elements can be mixed with other Pom Pom Dot studs, worn separately or reconfigured using different butterfly backs. Diamond-thread detailing reappears, serving both as a visual accent and a structural feature.

For the first time, the collection steps into men’s jewellery with the introduction of rose gold and onyx cufflinks. The black onyx offers a striking contrast and brings symbolic weight, often associated with good luck and protection. These pieces retain the core identity of Pom Pom Dot while translating it into a sleeker, more masculine language.

When the OCEAN Touches the Sky

Singular for its bold aesthetic, plural for its versatility, this new Big Bang Unico speaks summer out loud.

In 1980, Hublot dared to challenge the watch world by putting a gold case on a rubber strap, creating a buzz in the luxury segment. Known for its porthole-shaped bezel with exposed screws, Hublot was born, and with it, its art of fusion was established.

To celebrate the hot season, the brand has launched the new Big Bang Unico Summer 2025. Since 2017, the maison has been beach-hopping through the most exclusive Mediterranean hotspots, bringing its bold energy to places where summer has a deeper meaning. This year, Mykonos is the chosen destination. Drenched in sun-kissed orange and Mediterranean blue, the Big Bang Unico Summer 2025 captures the essence of endless days under the sun, footprints in the warm sand and the hypnotic movement of the waves.

MAKE A SPLASH

Crafted in Hublot’s signature high-tech ceramic, the Big Bang Unico Summer 2025 features a micro blasted orange case that glows like the golden hour while the sky-blue bezel mirrors the infinite sea. Light, bold and effortlessly stylish, it’s made for those who appreciate the vibrant season at its best.

Despite its featherlight weight, the timepiece is strongly built with highresistance ceramic, leaving you ready for any adventure. Even a deep dive –it has 100m water resistance. The One-Click strap system allows the wearer to move from beach surfing to party mode in seconds. Carved in TIME

Half a century on, Bvlgari honours its iconic watch with marble dials and gold cases rooted in Roman design.

Fifty years after its launch, the Bvlgari Bvlgari watch continues to stand as one of the brand’s most recognisable creations. First introduced in 1975 by Gianni Bulgari as a gift for the brand’s top clients, the watch’s engraved bezel took inspiration from ancient Roman coins. Its success quickly transformed it into the first full-fledged collection by 1977, shaped under the hand of Gérald Genta. To celebrate the collection’s 50th Anniversary, Bvlgari has introduced four new limited-edition models, each featuring a marble dial. The use of marble is both a technical and symbolic decision. Rome’s history, from the columns of the Pantheon to imperial palaces, has been carved into this stone, and the brand has long incorporated it into its jewellery. However, using marble in a wristwatch is challenging. The material is naturally fragile and requires precise handling, particularly when shaped into ultrathin dials. The reward is a completely unique surface, with veining and depth that cannot be replicated.

The watches retain the original’s classical symmetry and strong profile, featuring cylindrical cases, Roman-style typography and the double logo that has become the collection’s signature. Each of the four new models is available in either 26mm or 38mm sizing and comes in either yellow or rose gold.

Ref. 104111

This 26mm yellow gold model features a Verde Alpi green marble dial set with 12 diamond indexes totalling 0.12 carats. The bezel is engraved with BVLGARI ROMA, just like the original 1975 version, while the case back features a special 50th Anniversary engraving. It is powered by a quartz movement, paired with a dark green alligator strap and yellow gold pin buckle, limited to only 150 pieces.

Ref. 104112

Also limited to 150 pieces, this 38mm yellow gold version houses the Solotempo BVL 191 automatic movement with a 42-hour power reserve. The dial, also in Verde Alpi marble, is finished with gold baton indexes instead of diamonds for a cleaner look. Like its smaller counterpart, it bears the BVLGARI ROMA engraved bezel and anniversary case back. It is finished with a dark green alligator strap and a matching gold pin buckle. Water resistance is up to 50 metres, unlike the other models, which are rated at 30 metres.

Ref. 104191

This 26mm rose gold model features an Azzurro Infinito marble dial in a pale, icy blue tone, with 12 diamond indexes totalling 0.12 carats. It uses a quartz movement and has a double-logo engraved bezel, unlike the ROMA variant. The strap is made of light blue alligator leather, featuring a rose gold pin buckle.

Ref. 104113

The final piece in the series is a 38mm rose gold model featuring a Blu Incanto marble dial with gold indexes. Inside is the same Solotempo BVL 191 movement as the larger yellow gold version. It has the classic doublelogo bezel, a commemorative case back and is matched with a dark blue alligator strap and rose gold pin buckle.

Honey-Inspired HAIRCARE

Guerlain is well-known for its expertise in cosmetics. Its newest launch is dedicated to treating tresses: Abeille Royale Scalp & Hair Honey Bond Treatment.

We hear a lot about stress affecting our mental health, but when it comes to beauty, it appears in different forms, influencing skin and hair. With that in mind, Guerlain has applied its honey technology to create the new Abeille Royale Scalp & Hair Honey Bond Treatment. On a daily basis, the hair fibre suffers from sun exposure, humidity, increased pollution, chemical treatments and the frequent use of heated devices. Keratin (which composes the hair’s core) and hydrogen bonds (which give it its stability and strength) are often impaired, and the hair fibre is weakened. Investing in products that act on protection and repair is the solution for a lush mane. The Honey Bond Treatment incorporates Blackbee Honey Repair technology and the new Honey Bond-Protect Complex formula, specifically developed for this leave-in product to combat everyday

aggressors and protect the keratin.

The Honey Bond-Protect Complex provides a double bandage-like effect for hair. In addition to repairing it, it also protects against the stressors mentioned above. Its formula contains royal jelly and Åland honey rich in cysteine, serine and glutamic acid, promoting a bond-building action deep in the cortex. It also includes an oat peptide that has demonstrated its protective efficacy on hydrogen bonds thanks to its peptide and glutamic acid content. The beeswax butter creates an invisible protective and smoothing film and phytoceramids are rich in fatty acids that nourish the hair. This leave-in has been designed as a day cream. Its silky texture contains 93% naturally derived ingredients, leaving hair soft and light without a greasy finish. You can apply it daily to dry or damp hair before using heated styling tools or as a repair care.

A Concentrated Olfactory Experience

Inspired by unique Italian destinations, Acqua di Parma intensifies some of the iconic scents of the Blu Mediterraneo collection.

It’s impossible to think about summer without relating it to the Mediterranean and its scenic spots during this time of the year. Acqua di Parma is celebrating the season with its new Blu Mediterraneo La Riserva collection.

The line is a reinterpretation of the maison’s most celebrated fragrances from the Blu Mediterraneo collection. The new eau de parfums feature multi-nuanced compositions crafted from a two-month maceration process that infuses the fragrances with depth and texture, resulting in full, intense and silky essences.

Mirto di Panarea La Riserva pays homage to the wild myrtle fruit and rugged landscape of Panarea’s volcanic fields. The top notes of cedrat essence, sage and juniper berries provide a refreshing start, followed by a heart of myrtle and lavender essences, deepened by the warmth of myrrh absolute. The base notes, including patchouli fraction, labdanum absolute and lentiscus absolute, create a lasting, earthy warmth.

From the lush landscapes and vibrant atmosphere of Capri comes the Arancia di Capri La Riserva. The top notes of Italian blood orange, mandarin and petitgrain bigarade essence open with a fresh, zesty burst. This is complemented by a heart of aromatic rosemary and Italian basil essences, accented by a salty mineral accord, evoking the sea breeze of Capri. The fragrance settles into a warm base of cedarwood, ambrettolide and a rich suede accord.

Fico di Amalfi La Riserva is a celebration of the Mediterranean fig, combined with the vibrant citrus notes that define the Amalfi Coast. The top notes are a lively blend of Italian mandarin, blood orange, grapefruit and lemon essences, leading to a heart of orris concentré, fig and lemon infusions. The fragrance is rounded out with base notes of tonka bean absolute, ambrettolide and orcanox.

The La Riserva compositions are available in three sizes: 50ml, 100ml and 180ml, with a cap and bottle in a deeper, more intense shade of blue.

YOU ARE WHAT

YOU EAT

Think your SPF is enough? Think again. Bushra Hakim uncovers how poor gut health in summer could be the real reason your skin is acting out.

Lighter moisturisers, higher SPF, face mists on rotation – most of us know how to tweak our skincare when summer hits. But while we adjust everything on the outside, the internal systems that quietly support our skin often go ignored. That’s when the issues start. The glow you’ve been chasing gets replaced by irritation, puffiness or fatigue, and no amount of product layering seems to fix it. It turns out that beauty isn’t just about what you put on your skin; it’s also about what’s going on underneath, in the gut. You really are what you eat and, in the heat, what's happening in your digestive system could be throwing off far more than your appetite.

To gain a better understanding, we spoke with Nagham Noureddine, a clinical dietition, who shed light on what’s really happening internally during these months and how to manage it without completely overhauling your routine.

WHEN YOUR GUT STARTS TO STRUGGLE

Heat changes the way your digestive system behaves. The body loses water more rapidly through sweat, and if that loss isn’t balanced with adequate hydration, digestion becomes sluggish. “Maldigestion and constipation are common issues I see during summer,” says Nagham. These common issues further manifest into acid reflux.

But it’s not just about what happens in the stomach. Poor gut health has wider implications; it can manifest as general fatigue, an upset stomach, or even trigger autoimmune responses. Skin, too, starts to reflect this internal imbalance. As water levels drop, the body struggles to flush out waste efficiently. Digestion slows, and toxins can build up, leading to dullness and puffiness in the skin. It’s a domino effect: dehydration disrupts the gut, which in turn disrupts your skin.

THE SKIN CONNECTION

A healthy gut supports a strong immune system and that has direct consequences for your complexion. “Skin conditions like psoriasis may be linked to the type of bacteria present in the gut,” Nagham says. “When beneficial bacteria are low, it can impact the immune response and show up on your skin.”

This is why balancing your gut microbiome (those trillions of bacteria that live in your digestive tract) isn’t just about digestion, it’s about keeping inflammation at bay. External signs, such as redness, flakiness, or flare-ups, may be linked to an internal imbalance, especially in the hotter months when the gut is under more pressure.

Nagham recommends focussing on support strategies like including probiotics, fermented foods and staying consistently hydrated. Stress also plays a role in this gut-skin loop, as it can affect both hormone levels and microbial balance. “Stress management is essential. It’s often overlooked but makes a big difference,” she notes.

The scorching sun adds another layer of complication. “Spending long periods in the sun can lead to skin burn where skin elasticity is lost,” she says. Without internal hydration and gut support, the skin becomes more vulnerable to damage from the elements, despite the topical care you may be providing.

ELEMENT AT PEXELS
NICOLA BARTS AT PEXELS
MIKHAIL NILOV AT PEXELS

HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR GUT, SMARTLY

Nagham believes in consistency, not extremes. That’s where probiotic protocols come in, but they need to be done right. “Probiotics and prebiotics must be taken together,” she explains. They work in tandem, where prebiotics feed the probiotics, allowing them to thrive in the gut.

For supplements to be effective, dosage and timing matter. “You need 50 billion or more CFUs,” she says. “And always take them with your main meal to maximise efficacy.” This ensures that the live bacteria survive digestion and reach where they’re needed.

If you’ve recently taken antibiotics, the maintenance timeline is longer. “Protocols suggest continuing probiotics for six months after antibiotics,” she says. “For general gut maintenance, three months is usually enough.” However, we recommend that you consult a specialist for personalised care. The key isn’t dramatic change, but gentle support over time. Eating probioticrich foods like yoghurt or kefir alongside fibre-rich prebiotic foods such as oats, bananas or leafy greens can do more for your body than any single supplement alone.

HER GOLDEN RULE

Despite all the strategies available, Nagham’s personal advice is as simple as it gets. “Hydrate with water, please! It makes up 70% of our body,” she says. That’s her non-negotiable, especially in the summer. It’s also the easiest place to start. Water doesn’t just support digestion, it keeps everything from your skin to your energy levels functioning as they should.

The next time your skin looks dull, your stomach feels uneasy or you’re running low on energy despite doing all the “right” things externally, consider what’s going on inside. Your gut plays a much bigger role than you might think and, in the rising heat, it could be the missing link between feeling bloated and feeling balanced.

Relaxation MODE: ON

The pampering session this month happens at Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay. SD encounters a haven like no other and enjoys a full-body massage.

It’s a Thursday evening and we’re looking for a short escape to alleviate the stress of what has felt like a very long week. We book ourselves in for a weekend treatment at Waldorf Astoria Spa at Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay.

Located on the 39th floor of this striking five-star hotel, the spa is a sanctuary of luxury, elegance and relaxation. It almost feels like an oasis in the middle of Qatar’s buzzing business district.

From the moment we enter the reception, we can tell every detail is carefully curated. We catch some panoramic views of Doha, but what really interests us are the monochrome hallways and captivating art pieces thoughtfully placed around the space.

Indulging in rose-shaped scented hot towels and cold hibiscus tea, we’re prepared for an afternoon of relaxation.

Manu, my therapist for today (all the way from beautiful Fiji), escorts us to a luxury couple’s treatment room, along some striking corridors with a black and white colour scheme. It sets the mood and we know whatever is coming next is going to be relaxing, luxurious and just what we need.

Inside, a stunning Jacuzzi is set up with rose petals. Are we wrong for wanting to take a dip before the massage? Changing rooms are on the right and the couple’s treatment room on the left. We slip into comfortable robes and our therapists begin with a foot ritual. The warm water relaxes us as our feet are gently scrubbed and then dried with a towel.

We then move to the luxurious couple’s treatment room with two heated beds, which are designed to provide ultimate comfort. Today, we are trying the Mindful Dreams Massage, a 60-minute treatment that promises to relax, rejuvenate and recover your body and mind. The softto-medium pressure massage begins with our therapists gently rubbing on a wonderfully scented lemongrass herbal body oil. The oil is very calming for the skin, soothing, hydrating and has incredible anti-inflammatory properties, perfect to relieve muscular aches and tension.

This high quality oil from Voya feels ultra luxurious as my therapist kneads into my knots, gently raising the pressure to medium at key points on shoulders, back, arms and feet.

I can now feel the heat from the bed, as I sink in further. I don’t want it to end, but the therapist starts gently rubbing my scalp and that’s when I know the clock is ticking. I completely lose track of time as we near the end of the massage, but luckily the evening doesn’t end here. Our next stop is the Jacuzzi which caught our fancy as soon as we entered.

We soak in the hot currents as our bodies unwind completely and we really feel like we’ve woken up from a blissful 10-hour sleep. Recharged and light on our feet, we are ready to take on the weekend.

The facilities in this spa are second to none. As we head towards the changing room, we’re introduced to something we’ve never seen before. A rain walk and ice fountain, a colourful experience that you walk through as multiple jets shoot out cold water while you slowly stroll along the length of the shower before the rain showers drop warm water on you. This is a great post-massage invigoration mechanism and helps tighten the muscles. The effect is almost immediate.

We’re then shown the crowning jewel of this spa – the Alphasphere room. If we’re being completely honest, we’ve never encountered a sensory room like this. The immersive space engages all your senses and takes you to the peak of relaxation. Thirty minutes in the one-of-a-kind Alphasphere pod equals three hours of sleep and that’s a siesta we’d pay any amount of money for. There are lights and illusions on the wall and the whole pod is encapsulated in colours that represent harmony, purity, love and integrity. This definitely sounds like an experience we’ll be back for.

We pass by the indoor pool area. It’s massive and set in lush surroundings. We’ll save this for our next visit, along with the Alphasphere experience. We end our evening in the relaxation area with a blanket and a cup of Waldorf Astoria’s in-house tea blend – hibiscus, green tea, camomile, peppermint and fig, which adds a little bit of sweetness. A fitting end to an epic evening of indulgence.

This four-level facility isn’t just a spa, it’s a sophisticated wellness centre with some really unique treatments that aren’t found anywhere else in Doha. If you’re looking for pampering that’s truly elevated, I can’t recommend this spa enough.

For more information or to make a booking, please call Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay on 4008 9000 or WhatsApp 5102 9105.

An Inspiring and UPLIFTING VISION

This month, OHLALA spoke to Myrna Al Haddad, Author and Founder of Pinky Blush, about women’s empowerment and her beauty venture.

OHLALA – How did the beauty universe enter your life?

Myrna Al Haddad – Beauty has always been a part of my soul’s language. As a writer, I’ve long believed in the power of storytelling – and beauty, to me, is another form of narrative. It tells the world how you feel without saying a word. I grew up fascinated by transformation – not just physical, but emotional. That’s what pulled me into this universe. I wanted to create a space where women could reconnect with their own light – and walk out not just enhanced but empowered.

OHLALA – What is the Pinky Blush Beauty Lounge concept, and how did you come up with it?

Myrna – Pinky Blush was never meant to be just another salon. I envisioned it as a sanctuary of luxury – a place where elegance meets edge, and every detail whispers of intention. The concept was born from a desire to make every woman feel like a star in her own story. Pinky Blush is where glamour becomes personal. It’s soft yet powerful. Feminine yet fierce. And everything about it – from the colours to the service rituals – was created to reflect that contrast.

OHLALA – What are the differential services that you offer?

Myrna – We don’t follow trends – we set standards. From our signature Hydraglow Royale facial to our Celestial Nail Sets, each service is designed to deliver results and elevate the experience. Our Privilege Elite Club offers exclusive access to bespoke treatments, private sessions and personalised beauty planning. Even our nail artistry goes beyond aesthetics – it’s storytelling in design. At Pinky Blush, it’s not about offering more but offering meaningful luxury.

OHLALA – In your opinion, what do customers look for when choosing a salon?

Myrna – They look for trust. In an era of endless options, trust is the new luxury. Clients want more than pretty interiors – they want consistency, mastery and energy. They want to feel seen. At Pinky Blush, our clients return because they don’t just get beautiful – they feel elevated, understood and treated like royalty.

OHLALA – Beyond Pinky Blush, what else are you involved with?

Myrna – Writing will always be my first love. As an award-winning author (her first book After Midnight, about her own journey, tackled societal taboos), I continue to explore themes of identity, femininity and transformation through my work. I also mentor young creatives, especially women, helping them channel their voices into something powerful. Whether it’s through a book or a beauty treatment, my mission remains the same – to celebrate womanhood in all its complexity.

OHLALA – Can you tell us more about Privilege Elite Club by Pinky Blush Beauty Lounge?

Myrna – The Privilege Elite Club is our way of saying luxury should be tailored. It’s an invitation-only membership for clients who crave privacy, priority and personalisation. Members enjoy early access to new treatments, private glam sessions, exclusive events and curated beauty rituals. It’s not about perks – it’s about presence. This club is for women who lead and expect the best without compromise.

“Qatar is blooming – not just economically, but culturally. There’s a rising wave of confidence where tradition meets fearless self-expression.”
– Myrna Al Haddad, Author and Founder of Pinky Blush

OHLALA – You attended the Cannes Film Festival 2025. What was your experience like?

Myrna – Cannes was a dream woven into reality. I was honoured to be invited as a creative force in both the beauty and literary worlds – blending aesthetics with storytelling. The energy was electric. Being among visionaries from film, fashion and art reminded me why Pinky Blush exists: to give every woman her red-carpet moment, no matter where she is. It wasn’t just about glamour – it was about legacy.

OHLALA – Qatar has been experiencing exponential growth in the fashion and beauty sectors in recent years. In your opinion, what are the reasons for this growth?

Myrna – Qatar is blooming – not just economically, but culturally. There’s a rising wave of confidence where tradition meets fearless self-expression. Women are embracing their power unapologetically. This evolution is inspiring a demand for spaces that reflect that sophistication and ambition. Qatar’s beauty and fashion boom isn’t just growth – it’s a statement. And Pinky Blush is proud to be part of that story.

PRECIOUS CIRCLES

The hot season is the perfect moment to invest in eyecatching accessories. Buccellati presents new hoop earrings in some of the brand’s most iconic lines.

Founded in 1919 by Mario Buccellati in Italy, the fine jewellery and silverware brand Buccellati is an icon in its niche. With its unique style dedicated to craftsmanship, it features rare stones in extraordinary colours paired with white and yellow gold. The creations showcase intricate designs and complex techniques, such as hand engraving, that date back to the ancient goldsmithing traditions of Italian Renaissance workshops. This summer, the maison presents a new series of hoop earrings enriching four of its most emblematic collections: Rombi, Macri, Étoilée and Tulle. The creations combine traditional goldsmithing with craftsmanship. Hoops are among the oldest types of earrings worn by Egyptian civilisations and have endured across centuries without losing their appeal. Buccellati reimagines them by reinterpreting the simple form using the brand’s established and recognisable aesthetic codes.

In Rombi, the circle is animated by the line’s iconic geometric motif: a small rhombus (a quadrilateral shape where all four sides have the same length) adorned with diamonds, framed by a fan-shaped edge with fine engraving. The colour variations range from white gold to white and yellow gold.

The Macri Classica retains the spirit of the collection, which celebrates the encounter of the purity of its lines and the art of hand engraving. The earrings feature a rigato surface, where diamonds are set within the structure and embellished with engraved ornato motifs. The pieces come in yellow, white or rose gold.

The Étoilée and Tulle models showcase some of the maison’s most iconic techniques. The first is thinner and lighter, whereas the second showcases the unmistakable honeycomb artistry, one of Buccellati’s most elaborate designs. The colour codes follow the same schemes of their respective collections: yellow and white gold for Étoilée, exclusively white gold for Tulle.

With these creations, Buccellati displays its ability to transform simple forms into distinctive pieces of fine jewellery.

POP-UPS Chic

The world of luxury fashion meets hospitality for immersive brand experiences. The trend that started a few years ago is not slowing down –expect summer 2025 to be as stylish as you are.

The movement of showcasing concepts beyond clothing and accessories is not a new thing in the fashion universe. We have seen more collaborations between unusual partners than ever in the past few months (read set menus and afternoon high tea). However, with summer buzz and the opportunity to connect with their audience in a different scenario, iconic names are branching out and taking their values and visual concepts to hotels (mainly popular summer destinations). They go from poolside takeovers and exclusive pop-up boutiques to branded eateries and spas. This year, established partnerships are continuing, and new cooperations are emerging. It's a way of adding value to the property while also creating visibility for the labels, solidifying their presence in the market that goes beyond style, creating a lifestyle identity.

BURBERRY AND THE STANDARD, IBIZA Ibiza, Spain

The British brand is taking over The Standard, Ibiza's seasonal rooftop bar and restaurant, UP. The collab blends style, escapism and the fashion brand's unmistakable attitude. Specially created for this partnership, a bespoke Burberry Check motif using The Standard's signature yellow. The custom design takes over UP with loungers, parasols and branded seating. You can even sail the coast on board Check Mate, a personalised Burberry boat. Framed by sunset views, the rooftop comes alive with curated drinks, for stylish evenings soundtracked by guest DJs spinning from a tailor-made booth. In the hotel lobby, guests and visitors find a photo booth to capture their summer memories. The Standard also has a retail space with a curated edit of Burberry summer staples – from light layers and sun-ready separates to poolside essentials in seasonal Burberry Check. Designed for warm days and balmy nights, the selection features effortless styles grounded in the house codes – a coastal experience in traditional plaid.

Taormina, Italy

Dolce&Gabbana (DG) returns to San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel, with its exclusive DG Resort creative takeover and pop-up store. Taormina is renowned for its rich history, vibrant culture and natural beauty, all blended in perfect harmony. Suspended between the rocks and the sea, with its historic monuments, breathtaking landscapes and characteristic alleys, this town attracts travellers from all over the world. San Domenico Palace, once a centuries-old monastery, is today a five-star property under the Four Seasons badge. Following the success of previous

summer seasons, Dolce&Gabbana showcases its Blu Mediterraneo-themed design, decorating the entire infinity pool area overlooking the sea and its terrace. Inspired by the colours of the ocean and Mediterranean coastline, the print evokes the freshness of Sicilian ceramics, paying tribute to the values of handmade craftsmanship that have their roots in Southern Italy. Completing the experience, a pop-up boutique offering a selection of DG clothing and accessories, including a special capsule of exclusive creations designed specifically for this location.

JACQUEMUS AND MONTE-CARLO SOCIÉTÉ DES BAINS DE MER

Monte-Carlo, Monaco

Jacquemus is taking over Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer's iconic seaside club, the Monte-Carlo Beach Club. The legendary pier stretching over the Mediterranean and the Pool Café have now been adorned with the fashion brand's signature aesthetic. On the pier, the sunbeds, parasols and beach towels now appear in either banana yellow, a playful nod to Jacquemus' summer theme, or in coconut milk and black stripes, directly inspired by the La Croisière collection unveiled in January 2025 in Paris. The stripes can also be found in the Pool Café, on the parasols and soft cushions, for a refreshing break between a few laps in the Olympic pool and a shopping session. A few steps away, two boutiques welcome guests as if they are entering into the designer's own home. On the walls, a drawing by Renoir and another by Matisse complemented by furniture and books that evoke the Provence region, so beloved by the designer. You can enjoy the Jacquemus at Monte-Carlo Beach experience until October 7.

DOLCE&GABBANA AND SAN DOMENICO PALACE, TAORMINA, A FOUR SEASONS HOTEL

MISSONI AND OKU IBIZA Ibiza, Spain

For this season, Missoni unveils two exclusive initiatives on the island: the opening of its first boutique in Ibiza and the launch of the Missoni Resort Club at OKU Ibiza. The Italian fashion house takes its vibrant aesthetics to the hotel's 50m swimming pool area. Inspired by the Mediterranean seascape, it features Missoni's distinctive palette of deep blue, ocean turquoise and emerald green. The setting is enhanced by custom-designed sunbeds, towels and soft furnishings, creating a refined and immersive poolside atmosphere that captures the island's relaxed spirit. This collaboration marks Missoni's first Resort Club in Ibiza, blending fashion and leisure in a setting that celebrates designled experiences. A short distance away, the brand opened its first resort boutique on the island, located at Ibiza Gallery. The space reflects the maison's distinctive codes through an interplay of colour, texture and material. Inspired by the island's natural landscape, the interiors evoke coastal tones and warm atmospheres, complemented by Missoni Home elements that echo the hues of sea and sand. The shop offers a curated selection of men's and women's ready-to-wear and beachwear, as well as home décor pieces.

ALL YEAR LONG

These are collaborations are starting this summer, that won't go anywhere after the warm season waves goodbye.

AQUAZZURA AND HOTEL DE RUSSIE, A ROCCO FORTE HOTEL

Rome, Italy

This partnership is not a summer pop-up; Aquazzura has launched its own bar at Hotel de Russie, a year-round takeover. It's the shoe brand's debut in the hospitality sector. This partnership combines Aquazzura's aesthetics and timeless elegance with the iconic hotel's charm, which is celebrating its 25th Anniversary. A secret garden nestled within a secret garden – the Aquazzura Bar enhances the essence of La Dolce Vita in the historic Hotel de Russie's hidden courtyard. Once inside the hotel, guests are led to an enchanting, flourishing oasis that is invisible from the street. Bespoke Portuguese tiles, hand-painted with delicate lemon motifs, adorn the bar, paying homage to Italy's colourful citrus groves. The bar features elegant metal outdoor furniture with tufted chairs and comfortable sofas. Green trelliswork and lemon trees in striped planters frame the area, creating an enchanting atmosphere that complements the Hotel de Russie's famous courtyard gardens.

DIOR AND SPLENDIDO, A BELMONT HOTEL, PORTOFINO

Portofino, Italy

Dior's first permanent spa has been launched at Splendido, A Belmond Hotel. The collaboration heralds a new era of indulgence and marks a significant milestone for the hotel, which has undergone a multi-phase renovation. It embodies Splendido's commitment to providing guests with a holistic wellness retreat, paying tribute to its roots as a monastic retreat centuries ago. The Dior Spa Splendido welcomes guests into an elegant lounge bathed in natural light, featuring earthy tones and complemented by Dior's finest skincare, make-up and fragrance products. Set across two floors, the spa

includes three individual treatment rooms, one of which transforms into a beauty boudoir, and a majestic double cabin with uninterrupted views of the sea. Each is adorned with quartzite stone, oak wood and design details inspired by Dior's iconic Toile de Jouy pattern, reinterpreted in soft lime tones. However, the highlight is the rooftop terrace, which provides an oasis of relaxation after treatments. Natural materials, such as rattan, reed canopies and cotton drapes, create a shaded cocoon around lounge chairs and a wellness bar serving bespoke beverages.

HALA (YALLA

)

MADRID!

Football enthusiasts are familiar with this expression, as it refers to supporting the Madrilenian team, Real Madrid. Fernanda Langhammer explored what this capital has to offer while staying at NH Collection Madrid Palacio de Tepa. Let’s go!

Travelling is one of my passions; I wish I could do just that for a living – discovering new cultures and cuisines and exploring ancient architecture and museums. Despite visiting many countries in Europe, Spain was still not marked green on my visited destinations board until now. I had the opportunity to escape to Madrid with my family for four days and five unforgettable nights – a quick trip that we enjoyed every minute of.

THE PERFECT STAY

We stayed at NH Collection Madrid Palacio de Tepa, and the highlights of this spectacular hotel are – location, location and location. Of course, there are other outstanding characteristics, but its position made the visit to the city a walkable one (we love walking everywhere, observing the buildings and locals’ everyday life). Close to all the must-visit landmarks, such as the Plaza Mayor, Royal Palace, Prado Museum and Reina Sofia and surrounded by an array of restaurants, I have to say that it couldn’t get better than that.

The hotel is set in a 19th-century palace. During renovations, an old foundation was discovered and cleverly covered with a glass structure located behind the reception. The setup allows you to observe the remains of the old construction below, with information about the building’s history. I adored the idea of starting my exploration of the city in our own hotel. When entering our Junior Suite, we found a space divided into two levels. The bathroom (with all the necessary amenities and a bathtub) and the living area with a sofa bed on the first level and a king bed and a desk on the superior level. It had plenty of space to place our luggage and move around. There was a floor-to-ceiling window with a small balcony that allowed natural light in and was a great spot for sitting at night and chatting about our day. The hardwood flooring and light colour palette gave a modern feel to the historical place. We were surprised with a personalised touch. The team at the hotel knew that one of our party members was a child and provided small slippers, a kid-size robe and child-friendly toiletries in a special pouch. My son was thrilled; it was the first time he could enjoy these items in his size.

EXPLORING SPANISH CUISINE

This year, NH Collection is celebrating its 10th Anniversary, and to mark the occasion, a few NH Collection hotels around the world have been selected to offer the Signature Breakfast - Chef’s Constellation Edition created by Michelin-starred chefs. Luckily for us, NH Collection Madrid Palacio de Tepa was one of them. The renowned Spanish chef Paco Roncero created a drink made with orange, apple, ginger, turmeric and cardamom and glass bread toast with cucumber, miso yoghurt, parmesan and extra virgin olive oil pearls. The drink was a boost of energy, and the toast was a refreshing start to our first day in the city. The following mornings, we enjoyed the buffet, which offered an array of bread types, fruits, cold cuts and much more. There is also a menu where you can order egg dishes, such as Spanish omelettes (also known as Spanish tortillas made with potatoes and eggs), which we became addicted to.

In the same restaurant, called Entre Letras, we experienced the Paella Menu for dinner. The special spread included two starters, croquettes and Salmorejo (a cold tomato soup). The croquettes were to die for, crispy on the outside and incredibly creamy with their various fillings on the inside; we devoured them. However, the Salmorejo was my favourite dish, made with ripe tomatoes, bread, garlic and vinegar. Unlike gazpacho, this is much thicker and served with chopped boiled eggs and, if you prefer, with pieces of the country’s famous Iberian cold cut. It was refreshing, tangy, sweet and savoury – an explosion of flavours. The paella followed, and we had two options: the vegetarian, which featured asparagus and artichoke and was full of flavour, and the seafood, also delicious, with tender pieces of cuttlefish and prawns. Paella is a staple dish in Spain, and at Entre Letras, it was comforting and delicious. The menu concluded with a citrus sorbet to cleanse the palate; it was a terrific dinner.

MORE OF NH COLLECTION IN MADRID

Spain’s capital city is home to seven NH Collection hotels, and we had the chance to visit two more. At NH Collection Madrid Eurobuilding, I enjoyed drinks at Bikini Bar and a truly special dinner at Casa de Comidas. Located on the ground floor, the restaurant interprets traditional dishes under the careful eye of Chef Rafa Zafra. Listed in the Michelin Guide, the eatery’s intention, as the name suggests, is to offer homemade food with seasonal and top-quality ingredients. The popular Ensaladilla Rusa (Russian salad), which reminded me of a potato salad, came with a delectable tuna belly, beautifully cooked and placed on top, which was absolutely stunning. The Puerro Confitado, leek confit with black olives and hazelnut praline, had an earthy touch with a striking balance between sweet and salty, something new to my taste buds. For main, we had Merluza fish fillets cooked to perfection and, to end the beautiful meal, Casa de Comidas has a unique dessert trolley, which is a temptation to any sweet tooth out there.

For a sunset experience, we headed to NH Collection Madrid Gran Via. Luckily enough, we got a spot at the busy (and super trendy) Picalagartos rooftop. During our visit (June), the sunset occurred at 10pm, and the 360-degree views of the city were stupendous! The weather was pleasant, with a gentle breeze, and we enjoyed chatting and watching the colours of the sky change – a lovely ambience with excellent service from our host, Jota, who helped us choose our drinks and tapas. Our selection of bites included a delicious Pan con Tomate (bread with a freshly squeezed tomato spread), the classic Gilda Pintxo (a toothpick with anchovies, Guidilla Peppers and olives), which was salty and rich in flavours, another Ensaladilla Rusa, Picalagartos version, with crispy small shrimps giving it a more complex bite, Burrata Salad with crunchy cubes of bread and pieces of roasted sweet potatoes, which added a refreshing touch to the spread, Croquettes filled with creamy Iberian cold cut and bechamel and,

my favourite of them all, the scallop ceviche served on a bed of tartar sauce garnished with crispy fried onion. The unique mix of ingredients worked amazingly well, playing with my taste buds. Below the rooftop, Picalagartos offers a culinary experience with four distinct areas that cater to all types of diners. Every area is named after chapters of the play written by Ramón del Valle-Inclán, Bohemian Lights – you are right if you’ve guessed that this is the best spot for a truly poetic dining experience.

WHAT TO SEE

Madrid is a beautiful and historic city in the heart of Spain, an incredible capital for lovers of art and history. We enjoyed paintings by Velázquez, Goya and Picasso in El Triángulo del Arte (the art triangle), which includes the Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza and Reina Sofía museums – creations that I had only seen in books. The queue to the Royal Palace of Madrid was too long, so we headed to the Gallery of the Royal Collections right next to it to learn a bit about the Spanish royal family. If you want to see some royalty without enduring the crowd, that is an option.

The city also offers incredible parks and gardens for those wanting to escape the historic city streets for a while. We stopped by the Real Jardín Botánico, an astonishing garden by the Paseo del Prado, founded in 1755. In my opinion, if you ever go to Madrid, this is a must-visit spot for a botanical experience. But the best of all is to walk the cobbled streets and explore the food and flea markets. Sundays are the best days for that. And if you have a football-mad son like me, don’t miss the tour at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium – even if you don’t like football, you will leave with the Hala Madrid spirit!

With Jurassic World: Rebirth filmed in Krabi, Avani is leaning into the moment and honestly, it works. The area already feels like it belongs in a movie, with dramatic cliffs, hidden caves and stretches of water that look too perfect to be real. This isn’t just a place to switch off; it’s one of those rare spots where you actually want to explore. Avani splits the stay between its Ao Nang and Koh Lanta resorts, which gives you two completely different settings in one trip. There are boat trips to islands, kayaking through mangroves, jungle hikes and visits to actual filming locations if you’re feeling curious. Kids get dinosaur-themed surprises while adults get proper spa time (lava stones, mocktails, the lot) and the whole thing is planned in a way that still leaves room to do nothing, if that’s the mood. It’s an easy, outdoorsy, low-stress kind of holiday with just enough of a story behind it.

BÜRGENSTOCK

RESORT LAKE LUCERNE

Lucerne, Switzerland

The Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne isn’t your typical luxury hotel. Set 500 metres above the lake, it has sharp architecture with jaw-dropping views of the Swiss Alps. It’s the perfect base for those who want a break from the usual hotel buzz. The new 007 Experience taps into the James Bond adventure, the kind you only see on screen. You’ll stay in a sleek lake-view suite before boarding a private PC-12 aircraft to fly around the iconic Matterhorn, soaking in views mostly seen in movies. Then comes the thrill, a 220-metre bungee jump off the Verzasca Dam, the same jump Pierce Brosnan did in the film GoldenEye. Back at the resort, things slow down. Swiss beverages, chocolates and the Lakeview Bar’s quiet atmosphere round it all out. No flash, no fuss, just a smartly curated escape with a few memorable kicks thrown in.

AVANI AO NANG & AVANI+ KOH LANTA

Red Sea, Saudi Arabia

Built into the mountains of Saudi Arabia’s west coast, Desert Rock Resort is a rare kind of escape – remote, quiet and entirely grounded in its surroundings. The resort’s villas and suites are carved into ancient rock formations, featuring minimalist design and expansive desert views that stretch as far as the eye can see. The focus is on stillness and space, with private terraces, open-air lounges and uninterrupted silence. Hiking trails through canyons and cliffs, guided stargazing walks and heritage treks help give a deeper look into the region’s history. For a slower-paced experience, spa treatments are held in rock-carved rooms and private dinners can be arranged in secluded outdoor spots – a resort designed for those looking to reset. With clear night skies, dramatic scenery and a sense of privacy throughout, Desert Rock offers a stripped-back, thoughtful kind of luxury.

FOUR SEASONS HOTELS ISTANBUL

Istanbul, Türkiye

Istanbul in the summer is a city at its most cinematic and the two Four Seasons properties show you exactly why. Whether you’re waking up to the call-to-prayer in Sultanahmet or watching boats drift past your terrace on the Bosphorus, every moment feels like part of a scene. This season, the hotels are turning up the atmosphere: film screenings under the stars, seafood dinners by the water and sweet breaks with Nicolas Lambert’s afternoon tea at Yalı, Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at the Bosphorus. You can even cruise between the two hotels on a private sea shuttle accompanied by a photographer to capture the memories. There’s a new rakı ritual, fusion mixed drinks on the rooftop, Hammam sessions steeped in Ottoman tradition and private tours that take you behind the postcard pictures of the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. All this, plus the hundred other things you can do in Istanbul, makes for an action-packed summer at its best.

PORTRAIT FIRENZE

Florence, Italy

Portrait Firenze puts you right by the Arno, but its summer offerings go far beyond the views. The days are built around slow exploration and well-planned pleasures, such as private boat rides that drift past the Ponte Vecchio, exclusive riverside aperitivos and gelato trails through Florence’s best artisanal gelaterias. The hotel’s summer programme brings the city to life in small, personal ways. Craft your own signature scent at a guided perfume lab using local essences, take to the hills for a cycling tour through Chianti or play a round at one of Italy’s most scenic golf courses with the perks of Portrait in place. There’s even a chance to explore the ninth-century abbey at Badia di Passignano in the countryside. Everything is curated by the hotel’s lifestyle team, making it easy to slip into the city’s rhythm without the stress of planning – a polished but laid-back base for discovering Florence your own way.

WALDORF ASTORIA MALDIVES ITHAAFUSHI

Maldives

There aren’t many places in the world where you can wake up on a private island and hop into a Ferrari, but Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi isn’t aiming for typical. Spread across three islands, including one fully private, the resort is all about excellence: overwater villas, 11 restaurants, a stunning spa and the kind of service that gets everything right. Now, they’ve added something a little unexpected into the mix, a hand-built Ferrari Testa Rossa J, delivered through a collaboration with Hedley Studios. It’s a scaled-down electric version of the 1950s’ classic and one of only 299 in the world. Guests staying on the private island can take it for a spin along palm-lined paths or catch it parked at private events and dinners. It’s not there to impress, just to delight in that subtle way the best luxury often does.

JAPANESE FARE IN A MAGICAL LOCATION

Looking for a dining spot that impresses both the palate and the eyes? SD heads to The Diplomatic Club for an Asian feast.

In the flood of fancy dining experiences in Doha, Nassayem Qatar is a delight for all the senses and a pleasant change. This unassuming Japanese eatery offers much more than meets the eye and has been under the radar for far too long. In a scenic location at The Diplomatic Club, this is a refreshing and impressive dining spot. The drive past The View Hospital to arrive at The Diplomatic Club almost makes us feel like we’re in a different, more aesthetic part of Qatar. A beautiful lagoon on the right, dotted with trees and greenery, sets the tone for the dining experience at Nassayem.

The Diplomatic Club entrance is regal and exclusive. Majestic chandeliers, dramatic drapes and luxurious upholstery are just a few highlights as we make our way to the restaurant on the ground floor. There are two dining areas – indoor and outdoor. The outdoors is absolutely spectacular. It’s our first visit to this place and, after 14 years in Doha, we’re ashamed that we hadn’t discovered it earlier. What a scene! A massive waterfall stands grand right in front of us, adjacent to a wooden bridge above a makeshift river. The entire space is covered in lush grass, and it feels like an oasis in the midst of a crowded city. There are trees everywhere, and the sounds of the waterfall are so calming. As the colours change every few seconds, they keep our sight and other senses engaged. You can tell that a lot of thought has gone into this landscaping.

As much as we are swept away by this space, it’s relatively warm this evening, so we choose to dine indoors. And the air-conditioned area does not disappoint. The wooden floors, decorated ceilings and stained-glass, antique-style mirrors catch our attention as we settle into a cosy table for two.

Chef Joseph introduces himself and promises us we’re going to have a good evening. Spoiler alert – the promise was kept. Marianne is our host for the night and she starts us off with some refreshing lemon mint drinks to cool down.

We are trying the Japanese set menu featuring appetisers, a selection of sushi, main course and dessert. An à la carte menu is available too, but it features many of the same items. The set menu option is definitely good value.

As we finish considering the options, Marianne surprises us with wonderfully scented hot towels. And shortly after, salted edamame and a delicious Kani Salad reach our table. The portions are really generous and the Kani Salad is simple, with some much-needed umami. One can never go wrong with edamame.

The sushi selection is divided into cooked and uncooked. We get a total of 20 pieces and each maki is rolled to perfection. Included in the platter are Salmon Sushi Roll, Crazy California Roll, Grilled Salmon, Crab Maki and many more. The plate is so colourful, it is a proper celebration. And the party is in our mouths.

For mains, we are asked to choose from four options: prawns, chicken, beef or salmon. The Prawns Tempura with mirin soy sauce and white rice looks like a winner. The batter is crispy, and a little dip in the sauce, combined with the fragrant rice, makes the perfect bite. Our second main, the Beef Teriyaki, is just as good. Thoroughly cooked with the savoury flavour of mushrooms, the cubes of beef are truly indulgent. The portions are really generous and all of this feels like too much for two people – but of course, that’s never something we’d complain about.

A decadent Matcha Cheesecake graces our table for a sweet ending. Alongside it, a vibrant platter of fruits elevates the dessert experience and, despite reaching our physical limits of consumption, we finish every bite of the selection, which includes strawberries, raspberries, watermelon and more. The service has been flawless and Marianne has been splendid tonight. We reflect on a wonderful evening as we sip jasmine tea.

This dinner at Nassayem really uplifts an otherwise regular weeknight. Japanese food in an undiscovered location is probably the best way to surprise your significant other or a group of friends you want to impress. Bookmark this place and then book your table, you’re going to love it.

SMOOTH NAVIGATOR

OHLALA GOT ITS HANDS ON THE NEW VOLVO XC90 B5, AN SUV THAT DIDN’T SHOUT FOR OUR ATTENTION – IT SIMPLY EARNED OUR RESPECT, ONE INTELLIGENT DETAIL AT A TIME.

There’s something instantly calming about climbing into a Volvo. Maybe it’s the simplicity, perhaps the brand’s reputation for safety or possibly it’s just the fact that everything in the design is there for a reason.

Volvos have a way of winning you over, without making a scene – smooth, sensible and just a little bit smug in the best way. So, when the team at Volvo Cars Qatar handed us the keys to the 2025 XC90 B5, the mildhybrid luxury SUV, we had a feeling we were in for something quietly brilliant. Spoiler: we weren’t wrong.

A MODERN MAKEOVER

The XC90 has never been one to scream for attention, and that’s a big part of its charm. This refresh keeps the same elegant silhouette but adds the right amount of sharpness. It’s like seeing an old friend after a good haircut – recognisable, but just a little more put together.

There’s a new crispness to the lines, with a chrome-accented grille, sleek LED headlights and bright aluminium window trim that gives it a refined polish. Our test model came with 21-inch diamond-cut alloys that not only looked the part but also contributed to a smooth, composed ride. The panoramic sunroof adds a lovely sense of openness both inside and out, while the roof rails offer a hint of versatility – even if they’ll probably never carry more than a cargo box.

COMFY AND CLASSY CABIN

If the outside was about quiet confidence, the inside was all about calm luxury. The cabin feels like it was designed by someone who understands how to make long trips comfortable and who probably owns one too many cashmere throws. The dashboard stretches horizontally, creating a broad, open feel. Grey ash décor, vertical air vents and soft-touch materials surrounded us, while small details, like the Orrefors crystal gear selector, added just the right amount of flair.

The ventilated Nappa seats are an experience in themselves. They heat, cool, power adjust and have memory settings for multiple drivers. No one gets the short straw in this seven-seater as even the third row gets its own vents and climate controls.

Storage has been thoughtfully improved, with a redesigned centre console offering space for phones, drinks, snacks and the usual everyday bits. Subtle ambient lighting adds a warm glow in the evenings, making the entire cabin feel more like a lounge than a car.

SMART, SIMPLE, SEAMLESS TECH

The new Google-powered infotainment system is genuinely one of the easiest we’ve used. The 11-inch touchscreen is responsive, intuitive and mercifully free of confusing menus. Voice commands work well too, even with music playing and windows open.

“It felt like the car was constantly one step ahead, whether merging onto busy roads or navigating tight parking spots.”

Behind the wheel, the 12-inch digital display keeps key information right where you need it. But if you love your tunes, the real star of the show is the Harman Kardon sound system. It delivered rich, immersive audio across every genre – even our guilty pleasure playlists. Other innovative features include a discreet wireless charging pad, seamless integration with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and full connectivity through the Volvo Cars app.

EFFORTLESS EFFICIENCY

While the B5 may not be a plug-in, it still utilises mild-hybrid technology to enhance efficiency and smoothness. The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine is supported by a 48V battery and an integrated starter-generator, helping to reduce fuel consumption and emissions without the need for plugging in. On the road, the B5 delivered responsive acceleration and a composed drive, thanks to the eight-speed Geartronic automatic and adaptive power steering. The all-wheel drive setup provided us with confident grip on both city streets and open highways. It’s not designed to pin you to the seat, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s about making everyday driving smoother, calmer and just a little more refined, which it does effortlessly.

STEP IT UP

If you’re after more electric range and performance, Volvo also offers the XC90 as a T8 plug-in hybrid. It delivers up to 70km of pure electric driving and combines this with strong petrol performance for a total output of 462hp. Ideal if you want more punch with fewer fuel stops.

SAFETY COMES STANDARD

Volvo has long been a showpiece for automotive safety and the XC90 continues that legacy. Pilot assist, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, tyre pressure monitoring and a 360-degree camera system all come as standard on the B5, along with a comprehensive suite of passive systems. It felt like the car was constantly one step ahead, whether merging onto busy roads or navigating tight parking spots. Add in a reinforced safety cage, ISOFIX mounts and an integrated booster seat and it’s clear families are top of mind here.

OUR VERDICT

The 2025 Volvo XC90 B5 is a masterclass in understated luxury. It’s comfortable, clever and confidently safe – no drama, no unnecessary flair – just a beautifully built SUV that understands the assignment.

WHAT'S JUICY?

Things aren't slowing down this summer. Miss Ohlala helps you catch up.

The Guava Girl aesthetic has taken over. It's all about glossy skin, pink flushes and a bright glow. She's somewhere between Clean Girl and Y2K beach babe and brands are already cashing in. Tarte and Dunkin' have released a limited-edition drop of guava-toned lip tints, balms and lip plumpers inspired by Dunkin' Refreshers, each topped with a mini charm of the drink.

COURTESY OF KOPARI BEAUTY

For those obsessed with glowy skin this season, Kopari Beauty's Sunglaze Sheer Setting Mist SPF 50 is the product of the moment. It's part sunscreen, part dewy skin filter and TikTok can't get enough of it. The pink bottle is featured in numerous 'get ready with me' videos and is often associated with glowing skin routines. Personally, sun protection has never looked so good.

Speaking of all things summer, Louis Vuitton has launched an ice cream shop. Yes, you read that right. Set in Tuscany's seaside town of Forte dei Marmi, the maison is now scooping luxe gelato in signature LV cups until September, offering unique flavours like Vivienne and Gaston. It's cute, it's chic and it's probably the only designer treat that won't break the bank.

And finally, could it be a real fashion month without a creative director switch-up? Maria Grazia Chiuri has stepped down from Dior, and Jonathan Anderson has taken the reins across all areas of womenswear, menswear and couture. The first to do so since Monsieur Dior himself, he's already kicked things off with sleek new leather totes. The new era for Dior is underway.
