Cleansing Mousse and Foams
Cream Cleansers These cleansers have a creamy or milky texture and are often the first choice for dry or delicate complexions. Dependent on brand they can either be rinsed or tissued off, and usually require the use of a complementary toner to complete the cleansing process. Cleansing Waters These are also known as Micellar Cleansers or 2 in one cleansers, and appear similar to toners as they are liquid in texture and are gentle on the skin. Oil or Balm Cleansers
Cleansing Wipes
Contrary to popular belief, oils are not only for dry skin. Oil or balm cleansers work very well on oily skin, effectively cleansing without harshness as oil dissolves oil. Cleansing oils emulsify with water and are rinsed off to reveal a clean skin without a residue. In some skin care ranges they are designed to be used as the first or pre-cleanse prior to using a cleanser best appropriate to your skin type. They are particularly effective in the removal of long-wear makeup.
Although we don’t recommend the sole use of facial cleansing wipes, they are a convenient method of cleansing when water and a cleanser are not readily available. The eyes are the window to the soul…or so ancient philosophers would have us believe. Whether or not this is true, there’s no doubt that our eyes do say a lot about us; relaying expression, feeling, and oftentimes the status of our personal wellbeing. All this being said, l wonder…what are your eyes saying about you? Dark circles, puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles… three major eye concerns that represent your soul in, let’s face it, a pretty poor fashion. You’re tired, you’re stressed, you’re old; it may not be true, but leave these issues unchecked and that’s the image you’re presenting to the world. So what can you do?
Dark Circles Unfortunately, there’s a whole
bunch of factors which contribute to dark under eye circles. Sun exposure, diet, lack of sleep, allergies, ageing, stress, even genetics. What are they though? Where do they come from, what do they want?

skin is paler and therefore the circles are emphasised. As for what they want…well the only discernable motive seems to be to make us look as unattractive and as old as possible.
Puffiness and Swelling
Puffy eyes, or “bags” as they’re so attractively nicknamed, are also caused by numerous factors, however the big bad in this case is fluid retention. Now why on earth would your eyes retain fluid? Could be fluctuating hormone levels, an overly salty diet, hot weather, and of course there’s medication side effects.
Fine Lines & Wrinkles
Finally, there are the visible signs of ageing. Now I don’t know about you, but this is the eye concern I fear, because although there’s small things you can do to conceal and reduce these frightful flaws, in the end, they just don’t go away. These are caused by things such as sun exposure, squinting, rubbing your eyes, and of course, just ageing naturally. Bottom line is, the skin around our eye area is so delicate, and it just doesn’t produce moisture the way the rest of our skin does. The result? Skin that wrinkles easier and doesn’t bounce back into place. 18 ~ FACIALCO.COM.AU

Cucumber slices, a spoon, ice water on a cotton pad…get creative! The coolness causes the blood vessels under the skin to contract and blood circulation to increase, temporarily reducing the appearance of dark circles and reducing swelling.
The caffeine and tannin in a used teabag (cooled of course) works to pull out and eliminate the fluid retained in the under eye area, putting an end to nasty puffiness and swelling. Little tip? Use a Green Tea bag. Not only do they have caffeine, but they’re rich in antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory properties.
Rather than tackle lines and wrinkles when they happen, help prevent them by applying a broad spectrum sun screen daily.
Lucky for you, there are literally hundreds of eye care and treatment products on the market designed to help target and prevent these eye concerns. You can pick one for a specific concern, like emerginC Lighten-Up Under-Eye Circle Fighter (guess what that does?) or go for an all rounder like Skinstitut’s Eye Believe. Although eye creams can give you targeted results, even just taking care to moisturise the eye area (gently of course) can go a long way to restoring moisture and alleviating and preventing eye concerns.
For situations when you need results now, a good concealer is your best bet. Fill in those lines, cover up those circles; just make sure you choose a tone that matches your skin or else you’ll look a little bit silly.
Be Gentle! Don’t pull at, rub, or stretch the eye area. It has inferior elasticity and will eventually just stop snapping back. Be gentle; take care to pat eye products on instead of rubbing them in.
If you’re lucky, these antioxidants will also assist in fighting damaging free radicals that contribute to premature ageing.
Lifestyle changes Reduce the amount of salt in your diet, the amount of caffeine and/ or alcohol you drink, and quit smoking. Try to get a bit more sleep, and if you can’t, compensate for that pale skin with a dewy tinted moisturiser. Lifestyle and dietary changes can go a long way to helping your eyes be as bright and youthful as a bright and youthful thing.
So, if eyes are the window to the soul, make sure your soul is saying nice things about you; namely, that you’re youthful, bright and full of life.

Q – Can you recommend a non-greasy foundation with fair coverage for a young teenage girl?
FacialCo – A pressed mineral foundation is what I would recommend. Coverage can be increased if necessary, it contains SPF 15 sunscreen, it’s easy to use and has anti-inflammatory properties, which are good if you sometimes experience break outs. Glominerals have a great colour range.

the best, safest way to pop a pimple? A: If you have a lot of pimples I recommend having it done as part of a facial treatment, as incorrect extraction can cause scarring, pigmentation and other issues. Before considering extraction I would first recommend using a spot treatment like Dermalogica Overnight Clearing Gel. It contains ingredients to reduce inflammation and remove irritation, and a few applications will usually start the healing process. If you really want to pop a pimple it needs to be ready - for example a very distinct whitehead. Make sure the area and your fingers are clean. Get a cotton pad dipped in warm water and apply to the area to warm the skin. Then, use a cotton pad in each hand over the index fingers and gently apply pressure around the pimple. If it is ready to be extracted it should pop easily, if it’s not ready then it won’t and excessive pressure will cause scarring. After releasing the contents of the pimple, clean the area with toner and apply an antiblemish spot treatment.
Q – Can you suggest a
natural makeup with less or no chemicals? I'm wanting to go more organic and natural but not sure where to start. FacialCo – I would recommend a mineral makeup range such as Inika, which is certified organic and features a full range of products from foundations to lip and eye make-up. Q – What are the guidelines for using glycolic acid? Can a person use too many products containing this ingredient? FacialCo – It is definitely possible to over use glycolic acid. It encourages exfoliation and more delicate skin types can be prone to irritation if too much or too high a concentration is used all the time. The skin and its concerns should be assessed regularly to ensure that the correct products are being used.
Q – Which products would
be helpful to reduce the appearance of acne scars? FacialCo – Products containing Vitamin A to increase cellular turnover and AHAs such as glycolic are the best products to use in conjunction with skin needling. Skin needling with a 0.3mm dermaroller can be done at home and if done consistently over a period of a couple of months yields
great results. A serum recommended to use with the roller would be Medik8 Retinol 3 TR.
Q – What is the BEST
way/product to get rid of blackheads? FacialCo – You need to look at products that contain Salicylic Acid, as it is oil soluble and penetrates into the follicles to loosen and encourage removal of blackheads. Deep cleansing masks and exfoliants should also be added to your routine and used up to 3 times a week on affected areas. For an overall treatment, a product like Luzern Serum Absolut Control is an effective product that can be used twice a day after cleansing and before moisturising.
Q – I am 47 years old and
am after a good firming cream for my face and also something that will soften fine wrinkles around the eyes. I appreciate your recommendations. FacialCo – For firming and lifting, peptides are the ingredients you are looking for. HydroPeptide Power Lift Ultra Rich Concentrate is a good example of a product that contains these. Q – I am new to using Clarins. I'm not sure about eye creams vs eye serums... should I just be choosing one or can you use a serum and an eye cream in combo? FacialCo – Eye serums are usually lighter in texture, sometimes a gel or light lotion. Depending on the product, sometimes we recommend a serum for those who just want moisture. If your eye area is very dry or there are more serious concerns, then a cream which is heavier in texture or more targeted to a particular concern might be recommended. Some eye products are designed to be used together, serum first, then cream, or else serum in the morning and cream at night. Q – What is good for brown
pigmentation scars on the face, due to contraception pills & hormonal symptoms? FacialCo – This is a very good question and a common concern for many woman. The ASAP Super B Complex contains high levels of Niaciamide to help lighten and treat melanin in the skin. Unfortunately as the concern can be from hormones the condition needs to be treated internally at the same time. Regular microplus+ treatments are also recommended to exfoliate and even skin tone.
