When To Exfoliate? Depending on your skin type (oily skin tends to need more regular exfoliation than normal or dry skin) aim to exfoliate around 2 - 3 times a week to start with. wrinkles The 30’s Skin Characteristics
Early Photo-ageing starts to become apparent with minor pigment changes and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Suggested Skin Treatment Wrinkles are inevitably formed as part of the ageing process of the skin. The catalysts (facial expressions, genetics, sun exposure and other environmental factors) for their formation start years before they appear. Genetic influences are usually only responsible for about 10% of the way skin ages.
The Anatomy of a Wrinkle
The dermis, which is the secondary layer of the skin, contains collagen and elastin fibres that decrease in elasticity over time which causes sagging. The subcutaneous layer of the skin which is underneath that, contains fat which also begins to diminish with age, so is unable to plump out the skin from below. The areas of skin that generally show wrinkles first are around the eyes, lips and forehead. These areas are thinner than others and will show the first signs creasing when expressions are made. The 40’s Skin Characteristics
Moderate Photo-ageing becomes apparent with the appearance of brown spots and the permanent creasing in areas such as the parallel smile lines. Foundation application generally needs to be of medium cover to achieve a flawless look.
Suggested Skin Treatment
Home treatments are similar to the 30’s, but application may be more frequent or the strength of product
might increase i.e. from 10% Vitamin C to 20%. Products that speed up cell turnover and contain brightening ingredients should be introduced. Skin needling should be considered as a home care treatment. Salon treatments may include superficial peels and product infusion. Clients may consider injectable treatments.

The 50’s Skin Characteristics
Advanced Photo-ageing is evidenced by obvious pigmentation, visible capillaries (telangiectasias) and wrinkles at rest visible. Full coverage foundation use is required to achieve a flawless look.
Suggested Skin Treatment
Salon treatments may become more intense with the use of moderate peels i.e TCA and injectables. Combined modalities such as LED and IPL photo rejuvenation give a better result than single use therapies. The home care products that are used at this stage are very important as they must complement any salon or clinical treatment. Skin dryness may start to be a problem so richer formulas should be recommended as required along with products such as growth factors.
