Fellow Porsche-Pushers, The summer is flying by, but there is still more time to enjoy our cars and company. So check out the calendar and see which drives intrigue you. The August drive for the Southern Chapter looks like it will be a fun trip and check out to see what John has in store for the Central Chapter. July was a busy month for Southern Chapter as we had 3 events, the Crater Lake Drive, the Medford Rogue baseball game and our monthly dinner. So check out the articles on those events to see what you missed. To show how much the club is getting closer, there were 5 of us that went for a glider ride(soaring) this last weekend and had a ball. If you have never been soaring, you should since it is very peaceful. Overall, it’s still not as fun as our Porsches. As always, see you in my mirrors, Ross

The last time we did this route was 2001, so most of us have not been on this route, so it will a lot fun as it will also be a poker run. Prizes for the best hands. IF AIR QUALITY IS BAD, THIS TRIP MY BE REPLACED WITH A TRIP TO THE COAST. DETAILS TO FOLLOW.

S outh ern C h ap ter’ s Ha p pen i n g s : Crater Lake Drive on July 13th by Ross On one of those perfect days in Southern Oregon, 13 cars and 15 Porsche Pushers headed out to visit one of our most scenic points: Crater Lake. We started out in Ashland and took Dead Indian Memorial Road to Hwy 140 and then over the Butte Falls Hwy and onto the Butte Falls/Prospect Hwy( this was where we were supposed to have gone for the Mystery Drive in June, but someone got lost), to Hwy 62 and then up to Crater Lake. At the entrance, we had lunch but most of us didn’t want to go into the park, so most of headed home thru Fort Klamath and Rocky Point. At the lodge we said goodbye to Mike and Robin as they head back to Alaska for the summer/winter, and they promised to bring back halibut and salmon for BBQ next summer. Can’t wait for that.

Medford Rogues Ball Game on July 17th by Ross Under the warm sunny skies of Southern Oregon, 13 Porsches with 34 people enjoyed the American tradition of baseball, hot dogs, hamburgers and refreshments. Jim Warriner set up the event and along with some help from Ross, the club had one of most enjoyable events of the year. The evening began with the club parading around the warning track(yes some dust), and with all the children riding in our cars, it was an experience they(children) will remember for years. After we parked our cars in reserved parking, Ross got to throw out the 1st pitch, it was high and outside and at least he didn’t embarrass the club by throwing it into the ground. We got the reserved deck where we enjoyed all the food and drinks for the game. I don’t know who had more fun the kids or us adults. The club also got to sing Take Me Out to the Ball Game to the rest of crowd at the 7th inning stretch and we also found out how little the Van Huiets know about each other. What made this night so enjoyable was this was a family event and we got meet a lot the children from the club and I think this is something we need to do more often. By the way, the Medford Rogues won 8 to 0.

Ce n tral Ch apter Ch atte r I guess you can consider me an “old soul” when it comes to my interest in Porsches. The older I get, the more compare things with my age. For instance, I have known my wife for about 23 years which is now over half my life. I also just realized I’ve owned my 912 for 25 years (26?) which is also well over half my life. Another anniversary this year is of the birth of the 911. It was 50 magical years ago that the 911 made its way onto the public stage and its indelible journey into motor sports history. By this time the PCA was well established and on its way to becoming the great club we know today but how often do we think about the actual purpose of the club. I recently came across some bylaws that I think need mentioning again. Article I Name The name of the Club shall be the Porsche Club of America, Inc. Article II General Objectives a. The highest standards of courtesy and safety on the roads. b. The enjoyment and sharing of good will and fellowship engendered by owning a Porsche and engaging in such social or other events as may be agreeable to the membership. c. The maintenance of the highest standards of operation and performance of the marquee by sharing and exchanging technical and mechanical information. d. The establishment and maintenance of mutually beneficial relationships with the Porsche Works, Porsche dealers and the other service sources to the end that the marquee shall prosper and continue to enjoy its unique leadership and position in sports car annals. e. The interchange of ideas and suggestions with other Porsche Clubs throughout the world and in such cooperation as may be desirable. f. The establishment of such mutually cooperative relationships with other Sports Car Clubs as may be desirable.

Oh yeah, these are the bylaws as amended in March of 1963. Much like the cars, it was a much simpler time back then. Hope to see you on the road. John
