Belval 2023

10th National Selection Conference of EYP Luxembourg

Call for Jury Members

I. Introduction and Jury vision

Dear Potential Applicant,

At the National Selection Conference of Belval 2023, I want the Jury Team to be an active part of the development and guidance of delegates and bridge their path from being a delegate to becoming an official. Given the responsibilities we bear, to advance the journey of young Luxembourgish students in our European Network, we will also have the opportunity to impact the EYP experience of plenty of International delegates attending the session.

Selection

It would be in my interest to entertain an open and transparent selection. Delegates are supposed to be encouraged and informed about the mechanisms and criteria utilised in this process. The concern might arise that this incentivises competitiveness among delegates, however, this is by no means the intention of this step. To counteract this, I want to create spaces with my team, in which we open up for questions and discussions with the delegates. I have different ideas to encourage delegates to get out of their comfort zones and reach out to us. These ideas include the traditional activities of Jury Corners at Coffee Breaks and Post-Session Feedback forms but I would like to allow for even more interactive platforms by highlighting the diversity in skills and culture the EYP has to offer. Delegates will not only be able to get to know the Jury Team better but are also heartened to find out more about the EYP on their own terms.

Experience

Hereby, I would like to have a team that represents different assets of officials’ teams. Therefore, I would like to break the ‘unspoken’ preference of having a team experienced mostly in the Academics of EYP and invite EYPers with Organising, Media or maybe even Board experience to join me in my endeavours. By having representatives of different EYP teams present in the Jury Team, I want to motivate the expansion of standard Jury Criteria focusing on the academic qualities of delegates. On top of this, we are reaching times, where the division between pre- and post-Covid EYPers becomes larger, thus I would like to emphasise the importance of adapting to changing times and new structures.

Expectations

The jury is supposed to be a friendly and supportive presence to all participants of the session. Due to our special portfolio, we usually follow different schedules than other teams during the session. Therefore it is even more important to make our interactions count.

In case this rather simply speaks to you, I would love to see your application for Belval 2023.
