EUROPEAN FORUM PODĚBRADY 21st - 27th July 2014

Dearest participants, Dearest participants, European Youth Parliament Czech Republic is celebrating a true milestone in 2014 with its fourth European Forum.

The European Forum Poděbrady will be a unique event and I am not afraid to say a highlight of this year’s summer session season.

The amazing Organising Team led by Olga Pexídrová (CZ) and Thi Anh Tuyet Nguyen (CZ) is working hard on making the session one of the best you will experience. The venues the Team has secured and the programme they have already created will give you a clear idea of the exceptionality of this event.

The President of the session, Hans Maes (BE), is an ace among contemporary Chairs’ Team leaders and we are very excited that he is taking this dream route with us.

Hans is the guarantee of high academic quality as well as the unforgettable spirit of the session.

Dear potential Officials, Attending a summer forum is always slightly different from your standard EYP experience, and the fact that it will be organised in the medieval town of Poděbrady in Czech Republic makes it a once-in-an-EYP-career opportunity. This forum is definitely not something you want to miss out on.

Besides enjoying the cities fabled wholesome drinking water in the lovely summer sun, you’ll also get to experience some top tier organising, combined with a high academic level and an amazing session environment.

Next to the comforts of a summer forum, the Delegates will also be presented with substantial academic challenges.

It is our aim to get all participants maximally dedicated to the session. But dedication requires effort. To be able to supply the Delegates with food for the brain, the Chairs’ Team will challenge itself to go above and beyond what has been done so far. Innovation, creativity and commitment will play key roles throughout the entire session process.

Special attention should be given to the session theme ‘Reaching unity throughout history’. With all future session topics related to this theme, participants will look back on the 65 years of official EU history and the century of European unification, and draw conclusions for the future.

To make all this happen, we need your application! It is our aim to form a team of people who inspire each other and who are committed to give the European Forum Poděbrady 2014 a resonance throughout the EYP community.

About Our Forum European Youth Parliament Czech Republic (EYP CZ) is a civic association that was founded in 1998. It is part of the European Youth Parliament, a pan-European project under the patronage of the Heinz-Schwarzkopf Stiftung Junges Europa that sponsors the 41 sister organisations.

EYP CZ is an independent, non-profit and apolitical educational organisation. We work mainly with secondary school students. EYP projects focus not only on active usage of a foreign language but also on the academic development of students. We strive to increase the interest of young people in continental politics while giving the participants space for self-realisation and constructive discussion. In addition, we enable students to cultivate their capabilities in the fields of networking, team cooperation and socialising.

In partnership with the city of Poděbrady, EYP CZ is hosting the European Forum 2014 between 21 and 27 July 2014. The session will be seven days long and will be attended by approximately 65 secondary school students not only from Czech Republic but also from abroad. 25 experienced EYP Alumni from all across Europe will complete the international Officials Team.

The students will be divided into 6 committees that will be led by either a Czech or a foreign Chairperson who will be responsible for the academic level of the discussion about current issues, which will be conducted entirely in English. The outputs of these discussions – proposals of possible solutions of the issue – are called resolutions. On the last day of the session, all the Delegates will gather for a General Assembly where the proposed resolutions will be discussed and voted on. A rich and diverse accompanying programme will take place throughout the whole session.

The City of Poděbrady Poděbrady is a rather small spa town not far away from the capital. It is known for its calmness and historical significance. 550 years ago, Jiří z Poděbrad, the Czech King at the time, tried to unite the catholic states in Europe into one union that would help keep peace in Europe and would protect the states involved from eastern dangers. This idea was revolutionary because it introduced shared funding, unified judicial system and conjoined political decisions. This concept has shown signs of unions established centuries after such as the European Union. Concept of the Forum Our Forum in Poděbrady would like to put emphasis on the balance between academic and non-academic aspects of a session. After securing the academic quality by selecting a capable President and a Chairs Team, our focus will then be on providing the session participants with a well-balanced session that will also shine in social and cultural aspects alongside with the previously mentioned academic part of the session. By maximising the utility provided from the opportunities that the city of Poděbrady has to offer, we want to turn 7 summer days into an unforgettable experience for all involved with the European Forum Poděbrady.

Poděbrady will be the epicentre of these events. Furthermore, Poděbrady can offer beautiful sights of Czech historical architecture, a view of a typical Central Bohemian town and also the delightful Poděbradka, mineral water consumed all over the country. Poděbrady is a scholar city – many secondary schools reside within the city and Charles University has facilities in the city that host the language preparation institute for its foreign students.

This asset of the city implies that the city is well prepared for students as well as international visitors from all over the world.
