FIRST TEAM MATCH REPORT Saturday 16th December 2023 UCL Premier Division South WELLINGBOROUGH TOWN 3 EYNESBURY ROVERS 0 New manager, Shaun Sowden’s first game in charge was always going to be a difficult one as Rovers faced a Wellingborough side who had not lost a league fixture since the opening day of the season and were sat in second place. Eynesbury trailed 3-0 at the break and it could have been more if it wasn’t for the saves of Caleb Chandler. A much improved display in the second half though kept the hosts at bay and restricted their chances.

Chandler’s first save came in the 10th minute when he denied Brett Solkhon, tipping his effort over the bar at full stretch. Four minutes later he denied Solkhon again after a quickly taken free kick had caught Rovers defence cold but Chandler made the save.

However, he could not prevent Wellingborough from taking a 19th minute lead. Neo Richard-Noel broke down the left wing and whipped in a ball to the back post for Jessi Obeng to find the net.

Chandler kept out a close range effort by Jack O’Conner but conceded in the 35th minute. A headed back pass seemed to be in the arms of the keeper but Sean McBride nipped in to steal the ball and roll it home. Five minutes later an unstoppable shot from the edge of the area by Neo Richard-Noel made it 3-0 just moments after Jamiane Ivy for Eynesbury had his close range shot blocked by a defender.

The Doughboys could have made it four before half time but Chandler saved from Lloyd Buckby and Oliver Lee cleared a Solkhon header off the line.

After the break there were fewer chances for Wellingborough as Richard-Noel fired his shot across the face of goal and later an attempted chip over Chandler by Jessi Obeng was easily plucked out of the air by Rovers’ young goalkeeper. For Eynesbury Marcel Rzeszutek had the best chance but his shot from outside the penalty area cleared the crossbar.

Eynesbury dropped to 18th place on goal difference following this loss and their next game is at home to Bugbrooke on Saturday 23rd December, kick off 3.00pm.

Today’s Visitors Founded in 1929, Bugbrooke St Michaels FC replaced Bugbrooke United who wound up in 1927 having played since 1910.

In our early years we won the Central Village League from 1932–37 and were Runners-Up in the NFA Junior Cup. Other successful teams have arisen in each decade since then with the side's of the 60’s and 70’s being extremely prodigious in winning trophies.

In 1985 we joined the United Counties League and won promotion to the UCL Premier Division in 1999 which enabled us to play in the FA Cup and FA Vase for the first time. Since joining the UCL the club has run four senior teams, two of which play in the Northants Combination League.

The club are proud to have developed a mini and youth system which has run since the 1990’s, We currently run 12 teams across our Mini and Youth section from Under 7s through to Under 18s, many of whom have gained honours in the Northampton & District Youth Alliance and Northants Senior Youth Leagues.

In 2003 the club became a Community Charter Standard Club and in 2004/2005 we were recognised by Northants FA as the best Community Club.

As a reward for the clubs hard work in the community, in 2007 the then Under 10’s were invited to represent Northants FA in a six-a-side tournament at the new Wembley Stadium.

The latest addition to the club is an open-age Ladies team who were entered in the Northants Womens and Girls League for the 2020/21 season.

Off the pitch the club has worked hard to improve its facilities investing a lot of time and money to make them amongst the best in the County.

We were awarded a Football Foundation grant in 2006 enabling us to build the new changing rooms and improve social facilities. These were opened in 2007 by John Gregory who is connected to the village by marriage.

Improvements continue to be made on and off the pitch as the club continues to move forward.
