EYNESBURY ROVERS 3 HISTON 1
Just three days after eliminating Histon in the FA Vase Rovers hosted the Stutes in a league fixture and like Saturday there was dramatic late match action. Trailing 1-0 at the break Rhys Thorpe made it 1-1 on 80 minutes with his fifth goal in his last three matches. In the 90th minute Mark Ansell-Carter fired home his first goal for the club to put the hosts ahead and two minutes later Joe Worboys also scored his first Eynesbury goal as Rovers secured a 3-1 win and three points to lift them up to 13th in the table.
It took Histon just seven minutes to take the lead when a Max York header went in off Robert Ducket. The visitors took the game to Eynesbury and Reece Lewis pushed away an Oliver Brookes header. From a corner a goalmouth scrambled ensued and Eynesbury cleared the ball with Histon claiming that it had crossed the line.
Rovers rallied and got back into the game and almost scored when a sharp turn and shot from close range by Thorpe was cleared off the line. Marcel Rzeszutek shot wide and had another effort saved by Sam Roach, whilst Thorpe fired a shot into the side-netting. Jamaine Ivy had a chance when Dom Mason fed him down the right flank but he couldn’t get his close range shot on target and at the other end Histon came close to doubling their lead when Babacar Camara volleyed wide on the stroke of half time. Eight minutes into the second half the Stutes threatened again but Dan Gould was denied by a Lewis save. A minute later Eynesbury had a strong penalty appeal turned down when a ball into the box appeared to be handled by a defender as Thorpe challenged for possession. However, ten minutes from time an Ansell-Carter cross into the box was headed home by Thorpe for the hosts to equalise. Soon after Sam Roach made blocks from shots by Thorpe and Rzeszutek in quick succession as Rovers searched for a winner. They got their reward in the 90th minute when Ansell-Carter drilled home a low shot from the edge of the penalty area. Two minutes later Rovers secured the points when Joe Worboys netted from a tight angle after pouncing on an under-hit backpass.
Next up is another home UCL fixture when Lutterworth Town visit Hall Road on Saturday 30th September, kick off 3.00pm.
