Entering Programming Mode The first thing to be done is to enter the Advanced Programming mode Menu. To do so make sure the dimmer has power (LEDs should be glowing green), and that the lights are off. If the lights are on, press the Toggle button to turn them off. From Electronic OFF – Rania powered, but lights turned off – press and hold Lower (down arrow button) and simultaneously press and hold the Toggle button (big rectangular button above Raise/Lower) until the bottom green LED starts flashing. Once this happens, release both buttons.

Programming Mode Menu The flashing LED is used to select which of the standard options you would like to change. Using the raise / lower buttons you can move the position of the flashing LED to one of the three positions, as shown in the illustration. Move the LED to the option you would like to change, and press the toggle button. The options are: 4. 3. 2. 1.

Locked / Unlocked Preset By default, the dimmer will return to the previously selected level when switched on. The locked preset option allows the start value to be locked – when the dimmer is switched on, it will always go to the locked level. When option 1 is selected, the LED display will show nothing if the preset level is unlocked, and will display a fast flashing LED if a preset is selected. To set a preset, simply tap the raise / lower buttons until the desired lighting level is achieved, and press the toggle button to return to the programming menu. To return the dimmer to its unlocked mode, tap the lower button until the LED is at its lowest setting, and then press and hold the lower button until all LEDs are not flashing. Tap the toggle button to return to the programming mode menu.

ON Fade Time By default, the dimmer will fade up to the preset level in 3 seconds when switched on. The time taken to reach this level can be customised with this setting, between 0.5 and 5 seconds. Fading cannot be disabled. To customise the fade time, select option 3 in the programming mode menu, and tap the toggle button. Now use the raise / lower buttons to select the desired time, and tap the toggle button to return to the programming mode menu.

OFF Fade Time By default, the dimmer will fade down to off in 3 seconds. The time taken to fade off can be customised with this setting, between 1.5 and 15 seconds. Fading cannot be disabled. To customise the fade time, select option 3 in the programming mode menu, and tap the toggle button. Now use the raise / lower buttons to select the desired time, and tap the toggle button to return to the programming mode menu.

Accessory / Switch Setting Rania accessory dimmers allow the master dimmer to be controlled from a second location, using the same wiring as a typical 2-way switch. Although the accessory offers the greatest level of control (the lights can be dimmed from both locations), it is also possible to connect the Rania to a standard 2-way switch. To enable the dimmer to work with a switch, select option 4, and tap the toggle button. The bottom LED will flash faster to show that accessory mode is selected. Tap the raise button to change to switch mode, or the lower button to return to accessory mode. Tap the toggle button to return to the programming mode menu.

Entering Engineering Mode The remaining options are part of the engineering mode, used to change the way the dimmer operates. These options should only be changed when reccomended by Lutron. In the programming mode menu, select the 4th option by pressing the raise button three times. Once the 4th LED is flashing, press and hold the raise button until the 5th LED flashes.

Once the 5th LED is flashing, press the toggle button to enter engineering mode. The 5th LED will continue to flash when in the engineering mode menu, while the bottom LED can be moved with the raise and lower buttons to select the menu options. When the desired option is selected, press the toggle button to make changes The options are as follows: 3. 2. 1.

Blip (ELV Mode) Enable / Disable High / Low End Trim Load Type Select

To exit the engineering mode menu, press and hold the toggle button until all of the LEDs stop flashing.

Load Type Select By default, the Rania automatically detects the load connected, and chooses either leading (MLV) or trailing edge (ELV) mode. It is possible to force the dimmer into either of these modes, in cases where the load has not been properly detected. When option one is selected, one of the bottom 3 LEDs will flash rapidly, and can be moved using the raise and lower buttons. Press the toggle button to return to the engineering mode menu.

High / Low End Trim In some cases, the maximum or minimum dimming level may need to be adjusted. By selecting option 2 and pressing the toggle button, a single LED will begin flashing rapidly to show the trim level. The LED can be moved to any position on the display – a level more than 50% will set the maximum output (high-end trim), while a level less than 50% will set the minimum output (low-end trim). To return to the engineering mode menu, press the toggle button once.

Blip (ELV Mode) Enable / Disable Most ELV transformers are compatable with the Rania. Some transformes, however, may cause undesirable effects. Known side-effects associated with ELV compatability problems are flickering, audible buzzing from the transformer, and problems reaching the full output level. To correct this problem, the blip setting may be turned on, which allows the Rania’s timing circuits to synchronise differently, and may overcome these issues. When option 3 is selected, LEDs 5 and 1 will flash rapidly, indicating that the blip setting is switched off. Tap the raise button once to move the LED up to the second position (blip on), and tap the toggle button to return to the engineering mode menu.
