BEST SPOTS TO FLOAT, FISH, + HUNT

What is it about the water that pulls people in? Perhaps it’s the wild sounds. The roar, splash, and splatter of the water rushing over and between the rocks. Maybe it’s the lure of breaking the glassy surface of an early-morning fog-covered river.

Either way, the miles of streams and rivers in Independence County offer anglers plenty of chances to land a trophy or catch a limit of various freshwater species. Or perhaps you’re more of a leisure floater — we have something for you, too.

Running through the heart of Batesville is POKE BAYOU (sometimes known as Polk Bayou, but that’s a debate for another time). It was home to the first settlement in the Batesville area and remains a hot spot for nature lovers today. The bayou winds through Batesville and spills into the White River. Anglers, kayakers, and canoers enjoy the bayou and its recreational opportunities. Public access points are available at Polk Bayou Park and near Bayou St.

The mighty WHITE RIVER offers a wide range of boating adventures. Launch your boat above the dam at Kennedy Park or below the dam on Riverbank Road. Take a walk on the sandbar and skip rocks on the shores of the beautiful White River.

ROWE LAKE , located to the west of the Batesville Community Center, is a 2-acre lake stocked and managed by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC). The lake is home to an annual youth fishing derby and a cross-lake pedestrian walkway.

You can find another AGFC-managed waterway just south of the White River. RAMSEY SLOUGH features a boat ramp and a handicap-accessible fishing pier.

THERE’S A WHOLE WORLD TO EXPLORE OUT THERE. START RIGHT IN OUR BACKYARD, IN THE MOST GEOGRAPHICALLY DIVERSE LANDSCAPE IN THE STATE OF ARKANSAS.

Lyon College’s BRYAN LAKE is a quiet fishing hole that’s perfect for long walks with your dog. But it’s also home to Lyon’s biggest tradition — the freshman raft race. Stop by Lyon to cast a line or walk your dog.

SPRING CREEK OUTFITTERS manages over two thousand acres of quality whitetail, turkey, bear, and upland bird habitat. Adhering to a comprehensive management plan for 35 years has allowed the wild game to mature, breed, and improve its stock with each passing year. The Gillihan’s dedication to the hard work required to properly manage, improve, and maintain quality control over their top-tier Ozark resource gives their customers the best experiences year after year.

The JAMESTOWN WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA is an AGFC-managed area located on the county’s western side. Hunters can take a variety of species — from whitetail deer, quail, bear, squirrel, turkey, and more.

On the eastern border of the county, you’ll find JACKSONPORT STATE PARK at the confluence of the White and Black Rivers. There are several boat ramps, marinas, fishing piers, and swimming beaches. It’s also home to the region’s favorite cryptic, the White River Monster.

The BATESVILLE GREENWAY is a multi-use trail accommodating walkers, joggers, runners, and cyclists. The trail system begins at White River Health and meanders past the Batesville Community Center, making a loop through Riverside Park, Batesville High School, and the adjoining neighborhoods. JAMESTOWN CRAG is a popular sport-climbing destination in North Arkansas. The Crag has become a hot spot for outdoor recreation, with over 100 climbing routes on Arkansas sandstone and miles of hiking trails. Find Jamestown Crag on Facebook.

Lyon knows there’s more to College than just earning a degree. With 5 miles of HIKING AND BIKING TRAILS, an 18-hole disc golf course, a bouldering grotto, and a high- and lowropes course, Lyon has endless adventure opportunities for its students and the community. Learn more at lyon.edu.

PARK . With 70 miles of trails, you’ll encounter constantly changing terrain, including sharp turns, inverted climbs, odd angles, and even courses for the novice driver, complete with mud, sand, bluffs, rocky trails, and miles of White River frontage in Rosie, Arkansas.

The beauty of North Central Arkansas doesn’t stop at the county line. A day trip to the area isn’t complete without a trip to BLANCHARD SPRINGS CAVERNS, located north of Mountain View in the Ozark National Forest. Blanchard Springs is one of the most spectacular and carefully developed caves found anywhere in the world. The caverns are shaped by an active mountain spring that pours into a glassy-surfaced trout pond called MIRROR LAKE

Next, stop by OZARK FOLK CENTER STATE

PARK . The park, dedicated to perpetuating the Ozarks’ music, crafts, and culture, is open from mid-April to late October. Watch artisans work, stroll through the Heritage Herb Garden, and hear live Southern mountain music.

Then head north to MAMMOTH SPRING STATE PARK , home to one of the world’s largest natural springs. Mammoth Spring, flowing at over nine million gallons of 58-degree water per hour, serves as the headwaters for the SPRING RIVER and provides plenty of fresh water throughout the year. The river is crystal-clear, with long pools and whitewater falls. The scenery is mostly hardwood forest with some rocky bluffs. The constant flow from Mammoth Spring makes the Spring River one of the state’s best year-round floats, even during the summer months when river levels tend to fall.

Take a trip to GREERS FERRY LAKE , where you can enjoy swimming, boating, fishing, and more.

Then continue to Heber Springs, where you can enjoy the wonderful view of a 50’ waterfall at BRIDAL VEIL FALLS, before taking a hike to the top of SUGARLOAF MOUNTAIN, a 690-foot-tall erosional remnant beside the LITTLE RED RIVER

BUILDING COMMUNITY THROUGH GROWTH

Bad Boy has grown step-by-step with Batesville and continues to strive to be a cornerstone of our community’s success.

Bad Boy, has grown from a single zero-turn mower into a powerhouse manufacturer of mowers, tractors, farm implements, utility vehicles, and more. As they have added to their stable of products , they have remained dedicated to building a better Batesville and the surrounding region.

For more than two decades, our commitment to providing the outdoor industry with power, performance, and attitude parallels Batesville’s rich history in racing, the powerful White River that carves through our city, and the beauty of the Delta and Ozark terrain around us.

One of our core principles is investing in the local community, thriving when our community thrives. We source our products

and services locally whenever possible, supporting fellow businesses in the area and creating job opportunities for residents, empowering them to grow with their families alongside us. Developing local talent and area businesses has created a ripple effect of success throughout the community.

Being an active participant in community events and initiatives is part of our DNA, and goes back to the roots of what founded Bad Boy. Our involvement goes beyond the walls of our business, and into the community we

Bad Boy’s commitment extends to our neighboring towns and counties. We firmly believe that collaboration is key to regional growth. We have formed partnerships with businesses and organizations in neighboring communities, which has enabled us to pool resources, share expertise, and collectively work towards mutual success. In doing so, Bad Boy is reinforcing the bonds that unite our small-town region.

Our commitment to growth is synonymous with our dedication to sustainability. We recognize the importance of preserving the local beauty and environment of the Ozarks and White River Valley for generations to come.

We’re working to reduce our ecological footprint, implementing environmentally friendly practices, and supporting initiatives that promote a greener, more sustainable future.

Investing in local education is an investment in our future. Bad Boy proudly supports local schools and educational programs, from early childhood through local high schools and Ozarka College, UACCB and Lyon College. We offer scholarship opportunities, host educational workshops, and encourage students to explore entrepreneurship. It is a continuing investment for Bad Boy and the entire region’s success.

Our commitment to growth isn’t just about economic prosperity but building a better community. We envision a future where our town and the surrounding area continue to flourish. We are actively exploring new expansion opportunities, creating more jobs, and investing in innovative technologies to benefit our employees, products, and, most importantly, our community.
