Digging into the Past From ancient fossils to modern history projects, the junior school has had a fantastic year studying history, and credit must go to the teachers for bringing the subject alive in a year when school trips and in-school visits alike have been cancelled. by
FORM ONE
Our youngest year, Form One, has focused on both Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome this year, with some wonderful dressing up activity days which the pupils have enormously enjoyed.
UPPER ONE
Upper One has studied the AngloSaxon and Viking time periods, before moving on to the Aztecs in the summer term. The pupils worked on a range of activities and projects to help consolidate and broaden their understanding and enjoyment of this fascinating time in history, making good use of the class sets of iPads and other interactive resources.
LOWER TWO
In the upper school, Lower Two covered 42 The Exonian 2021

the Tudor period before moving on to studying the Stuarts, looking to widen their understanding of the English monarchs, the Civil War, and events of the time. Mr Ashman and Mr Pidwell have been regaling the pupils with animated stories of this crucial time in British history!
UPPER TWO
Upper Two has recently learnt about
WWII, with a special focus on the bombing of Exeter. There have been true-life stories and an array of artefacts helping to bring this period closer to home. Earlier in the year we studied the Victorians, closely examining different historical sources to see how life changed for so many during this age of industrial revolution. The second half of term saw them engaged with their annual project, looking at modern history since 1950, allowing greater freedom of choice to broaden their understanding of Britain since the War. In addition, the whole school took part in Black History Month in October, learning about historical figures from Britain and overseas and the important contributions they made to world history.
