Putting Plastic into the Past Once again sixth form pupils show their green credentials in the annual business and enterprise day. by

ight million tons of plastic reach our oceans every year, polluting global waterways and endangering marine biodiversity. This is an issue we are all aware of, yet many of us view it as something distant, to do with turtles in the South Pacific and not our own lives. Nonetheless, this was the problem set to the Upper Sixth at the business and enterprise day on Tuesday 25 May. Tasked with creating a new company that would profitably target the issue of plastic pollution, eight groups each designed a mood board, a video advertisement and an elevator pitch. eco-friendly choices to recycled plastic sleeping bags to biodegradable sun cream pods. Across the school, classrooms became hives of activity as teams rifled bins for collage material, quizzed economics guru Mr Bell and filmed some masterpieces of marketing. Pitches were made in authentic Dragon’s Den style to panels including local business experts. We would all like to thank Mr Mackintosh and the sixth form team for organising the day and recruiting the judges, giving rise to much hilarity and some truly ingenious solutions.
