Junior School Art

Many wonderful creations have emerged from the junior school art room once again. Here are highlights from the year. by

FORM ONE

Inspired by their geography ‘rainforest’ topic, pupils in Form One investigated colours, shapes and textures found in this natural environment. They then focused their attention on the captivating, colour-changing chameleon. They were able to apply this knowledge to create some wonderful clay chameleon models, complete with a vast array of colourful choices of paint.

UPPER ONE

Upper One pupils continued their exploration of colour theory and enjoyed using chalk pastels to create some ‘roarsome’ dragon eyes. Their colour choices and tonal blends culminated in some ‘eye catching’ art work!

LOWER TWO

PAUL KLEE

UPPER TWO

CHARLIE MACKESY

Using charcoal and pastel as their medium, Lower Two pupils carefully sketched stunning owls. They were able to apply their sketching skills to capture the textures and shades effectively. Upper Two pupils continued their exploration of Paolo Uccello’s ‘Battle of San Romano’ and focused on the use of perspective. This led onto optical illusion and geometric art. The pupils collaboratively created this colourful

geometric piece.

Through the remote learning in the spring term, all of the junior pupils learnt about the artist Paul Klee. They produced wonderful versions of Klee’s Senecio. Upon their return to school after remote learning, we used Charlie Mackesy’s thought-provoking book, ‘The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse’ to try out sketching techniques. The children then produced their own versions of the characters and illustrations. It proved to be a very mindful and reflective topic of works spanning each of the year groups.
