“It is true,” said Smadar, “that I am very busy with the business, but beside the business and my constant philantropic activities, my family is the most important thing in my life and this house I have built for them. My two daughters and their families live in Germany and Switzerland and I wanted them to spend as much time as possible with me, and so, I planned the house to be a wonderful family retreat where we all have our privacy but also can spend quality time enjoying each other. We are also very much into aesthetics and beauty and I wanted to create something timeless, we can appreciate over the next decades. This house was my private project for the past two years and every centimetre here was carefully chosen by myself.” Smadar has certainly seen many different things spending a chunk of the her young adult life modelling in New York and the settling down in Munich: as the international marketing director of one of the most prominent company in the world, before finding her forever home in Marbella 20 years ago. All those different cities, cultures and also aesthetics have led her into what she created in this house. One thing we could witness throughout every room was that the house felt extremely welcoming with the many open spaces and especially the light and warmth radiating from all the corners.

Superpowers of talent and determination El superpoder del talento y la fuerza interior Gal Gadot was born in Petah Tikva (Israel), but she owes her unique beauty to her Polish, Austrian, Czech and German ancestry. The daughter of an engineer and a gym teacher, she grew up in a family with strong Jewish convictions. Her childhood was focused on her ballet studies, and from an early age, her mother knew that she would be successful, one way or another. This was already foreshadowed by her name, which means “wave” in Hebrew, and her surname translated from Hebrew means “river bank. After working as a nanny and in a well-known burger joint, she spent two years in the Israel Defense Forces as a combat instructor, during which she said she learned “discipline and respect”. After her time in the army, she enrolled in a Law and International Relations degree programme, although she never went on to practise. always with the encouragement of her mother, who could see a bright future in her daughter’s beauty. THE REAL WONDER WOMAN Just before turning 20, she unsuccessfully auditioned for the James Bond film Quantum of Solace. Despite not being selected for the part, she did catch the attention of the producers of Fast & Furious, who launched her to stardom the following year. She continued in this role for three more years, but her real break came when she played Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It was the first time an actress had played the superhero Wonder Woman in a film. Gal Gadot reprised the character of Wonder Woman in the 2017 film of the same name, and also in Justice League and Wonder Woman 1984, filmed three years later. To play the superheroine, she had to specialise in kickboxing and capoeira, and train in sword fighting, kung-fu, boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Her performance wowed critics, who referred to her as “charismatic”. Many noted that she was “the best possible choice to play Wonder Woman”. Her performance in the fictional films won her awards at the Teen Choice Awards, MTV Movie & TV Awards, the Jupiter Awards and the Saturn Awards. There were rumours that she would even be shortlisted for the Oscar for Best Actress, although in the end she did not receive the

erona is the city of lovers, the stage for literature’s most famous love story, Romeo and Juliet, and home to the “Juliet Club”. The club has been the most romantic in existence since 1930; it manages the thousands of love letters to Juliet that arrive from every corner of the world. Every day, a group of women gets together to read and answer the love letters and then conserve them in a precious archive, all in the name of love and of the city of Verona. The jewels in the collection are made with three colors of gold, in polished and satin finishes, to wear together for a total-look effect. The design reintroduces the four-petal diamond flower that has been the center of other of the brand’s collections. The constant repetition of the flower over the entire surface of the jewels is an esthetic evocation of the architectural structure of the Arena of Verona, another one of the city’s emblems. In a collection that is rich in symbols, Roberto Coin has chosen to express his craftsmanship with a strongly contemporary, minimal look. The gold is worked to obtain an ultra-glossy effect and a special alloy is used to make it highly resistant. Every diamond is set by hand with the use of a microscope. The clasp on each bracelet in the collection is designed with a hidden mechanism that guarantees maximum safety without subtracting from the clean lines of the silhouette.

Paco Pérez represents the haute cuisine of the Mar d’Amunt, a border territory of sea and mountains, which extends from Cap de Creus to Cap Cerbère. Together with Montse Serra, life partner and director of Miramar’s front house, they run what was once a humble restaurant with rooms, which Montse’s grandparents built in this small fishing town on the Costa Brava, since 1939. Paco Pérez representa la alta gastronomía de la Mar d’Amunt, territorio fronterizo de mar y de montaña, que se extiende desde el Cap de Creus al Cap Cerbère. Junto con Montse Serra, compañera de vida y directora de la sala de Miramar, regenta lo que en su día fue un sencillo restaurante con habitaciones, que los abuelos de Montse levantaron en esta pequeña población pesquera de la Costa Brava, desde el año 1939.

COCKTAIL INGREDIENTS FOR ONE PERSON: • 45 ml vodka • 15 ml Cointreau • 45 ml cranberry juice • 15 ml lime juice • Ice • Garnish: a slice of lime and a raspberry

METHOD: Fill the cocktail shaker with ice, pour in the vodka, Cointreau, lime juice and cranberry juice in the quantities indicated. Cover and shake vigorously, until the shaker is well chilled. Serve in a cocktail glass, using a small strainer to avoid any chunks of ice. Garnish with a slice of lime and a raspberry.

PREPARACIÓN: Llenar la coctelera de hielo, verter el vodka, el Cointreau, el zumo de lima y el zumo de arándanos en las cantidades indicadas. INGREDIENTES • 1 coquelet • 1 cuchara de tomillo fresco • 1 diente de ajo • 1 rama de romero fresco • 80 grs. Mantequilla en pomada • Medio limón • 100 ml. Vino oloroso • Sal y pimienta

GARNISH: • Broccoli • Cauliflower • Carrots • Courgette • Green asparagus • Baby potatoes • Butter • Salt and pepper

GUARNICIÓN: • Brócoli • Coliflor • Zanahorias • Calabacín • Espárragos verdes • Patatas Baby • Mantequilla

METHOD: Coquelet: Chop some thyme, rosemary and garlic, and mix with the butter until it’s well blended. Season the coquelet with salt and pepper by spreading it all over the bird as if you were massaging it. Stuff with a generous spoonful of herb butter, a clove of garlic, a quarter of a lemon, and the Oloroso wine. Preheat the oven to 180ºC and roast for 45 minutes with the baby potatoes, until the skin is golden brown. One way of knowing if it’s cooked is by pricking the thigh - if the juices come out clear, it’s ready to eat, but if they’re pink, it needs more cooking time. Strain the juices and then whisk them with a little cornstarch to unify and thicken them slightly.

ELABORACIÓN: Coquelet: Picamos a cuchillo un poco de tomillo, romero y ajo lo mezclamos con la mantequilla en pomada hasta tenerlo todo bien integrado. Salpimentamos el coquelet y untamos por toda el ave como si le estuviéramos dando un masaje. En el interior, le ponemos una buena cucharada de mantequilla de hierbas, 1 diente de ajo y un cuarto de limón, el vino oloroso. Precalentamos el horno a 180ºC y asar durante 45 minutos con las patatas baby, hasta que la piel esté bien dorada. Una manera de saber que ya está cocinado es pinchar el muslo y, si el jugo sale limpio, estará listo para comer; pero si no fuera así, significa que aún le faltaría tiempo de cocción. El jugo obtenido lo colamos y después lo batimos con un poco de maicena express para unificarlo y que quede ligeramente espeso.

Garnish: Boil the vegetables separately, according to hardness and personal taste. Then sauté with a little butter, and season with salt and pepper. Presentation: Place all the garnish in the middle of a plate in the shape of a nest, leaving a hole in the centre. Place the coquelet in the centre and season with the juices. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary, thyme and cinnamon. Bon appetit!

Guarnición: Cocemos la verdura por separado, según dureza de cada verdura y el gusto personal. A continuación, salteamos con un poco de mantequilla y salpimentamos. Presentación: Ponemos toda la guarnición en el centro de un plato, como si de un nido se tratase, dejando un hueco en el centro. Colocamos el coquelet en el centro y salseamos con el jugo obtenido. Decoramos con un ramillete de romero, tomillo y canela. ¡¡¡Buen Provecho!!!

Michael Rodziewicz, CEO of BRIGHT, was born and grew up in Poland, and has always looked at the bigger picture, although sometimes the picture starts small. W

ithout adopting a didactic approach but with the objective of mitigating controversies and disputes in cases involving non-Spanish couples undergoing separations and divorces, who may not be familiar with our legal system – Spanish couples need not be well-versed in the law either – we can provide clarification, especially in the best interests of the children, regarding the components of their child support and the definition of extraordinary expenses. In cases of marital separation, divorce, or the dissolution of a civil partnership with shared children, a maintenance allowance is determined through a court-issued judgment. The courts have been responsible for defining and elaborating on the components encompassed within these concepts, as well as specifying which expenses qualify as separate extraordinary costs. What kind of expenses does child support include? The child support shall cover the following basic expenses as detailed below: • Essential pharmacy expenses, with a portion covered by the pu-

blic health system or an equivalent health insurance company. • Food, clothing and footwear, hygiene items, personal belongings (rucksack, wallet, etc.). • Costs related to ongoing public or private education at the time when the child support was established. This includes nursery, primary and secondary education, vocational training, and university education. Covered expenses consist of any fees documented by the school, school insurance, enrolment fees, monthly or annual school fees for private or subsidized schools, textbooks, school materials, uniforms, sports attire, transportation, school canteen, PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) dues, or any other parent associations connected with compulsory education. • Basic recreational activities during weekends. • Regarding housing expenses, the maintenance payments will include rent, electricity, gas, and water bills, and internet costs (subject to the financial capacity of both parents and the availability of this service before the divorce). These expenses make up the typical costs considered when determining the maintenance amount.

What are necessary additional expenses? 1.- Exceptional essential medical expenses not covered by the Public Health Service or an equivalent Health Insurance company subscribed by the parents: Most medical care expenses the children may require would be covered, and there will be no additional costs for the parents. Other medical expenses not covered by the public health service or equivalent health insurance taken out by the parents are considered extraordinary expenses not included in the child support and shall be paid by both parents in the proportion agreed upon in the Settlement Agreement or as established in the Judgment. They would be: • Emergency surgical interventions. • Compulsory vaccinations, medical and pharmacological treatments. • Dentistry and dental treatment including orthodontics, extractions and check-ups. • Prostheses, glasses or contact lenses. • Speech therapist or psychiatrist, psychologist. • Physiotherapy or rehabilitation (including swimming) with medical prescription and being necessary for the rehabilitation or recovery of the children. • Non-basic and prescription pharmacy expenses. • Any other health expenses not covered by the public health system of the Social Security, or by the private health insurance that the parents may have taken out. If one of the parents consults a private doctor, they may request reimbursement of half the expenses from the other parent if the following conditions are met: 1) the child’s illness cannot be treated by a medical professional from the public health service or an equivalent insurance company, and 2) the situation qualifies as an emergency. 2.- Necessary extraordinary educational expenses: Necessary extraordinary educational expenses: Unless the parties stipulate otherwise in a mutually binding agreement, school expenses, both those accrued at the commencement of the school year and those incurred during the academic year, are considered ordinary expenses covered

within the child’s support. These expenses are classified as necessary for the children’s education and are thus included in the legal obligation to provide support. However, certain educational expenses may be classified as extraordinary expenses, requiring shared responsibility from both parents: • End-of-year trips (because all pupils usually go, although it will depend on financial capacity). • School support classes recommended by the school. • School excursions, educational trips. • Public or private university (tuition, residence and all related expenses other than living expenses) - always better to consider them outside the child support because they involve very high expenses. • Civil Service Examinations. • Uniform expenses. • Equipment or federation costs for sporting activities. • Fees for the issuance of ID cards or passports. Fees for the issuance of academic qualifications. The expenses for these items shall be covered by both parents in addition to the maintenance. What are the additional expenses that are not necessary? The most frequent are the following: • Extracurricular activities (music, dance, computer, tennis, art, etc.). • Summer camps or courses, trips abroad. • Birthday or name day parties and other necessary celebrations of children. • Second degrees, master’s degrees, postgraduate and specialisation courses, doctorates, courses abroad. • Driving licences: many courts already consider them as a necessary extra expense if the child needs it to find a job. In contrast to essential additional expenses, these non-essential expenditures require prior agreement from both parents. In cases of disagreement, the parent choosing to incur such costs will be responsible for covering them. While this is a concise overview, I hope these insights can help reduce conflicts and, in some instances, bring peace of mind for the children.

SCHNEIDER A life in black and white Una vida en blanco y negro On September 23rd 1938, the actors Wolf Albach-Retty and Magda Schneider announced to the world the birth of their first child: Rosemarie Magdalena Albach. Romy, as she was known in the family, had a happy early childhood. But at the age of ten, when her parents’ marriage broke up, she was sent to a nuns’ boarding school in Austria, where she became a lonely child, receiving very few visits from her parents. Con 15 años regresa a su casa materna y se matricula en la Academia de Bellas Artes. Por entonces, su madre estaba rodando la película Lilas Blancas, del director Kurt Ulrich, quien ofrece a Romy la posibilidad de interpretar un papel en el film. Ella acepta y su vida cambia.

t the age of 15, she returned to her mother’s home and enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts. At the time, her mother was shooting the film When the White Lilacs Bloom Again, directed by Kurt Ulrich, who offered Romy the opportunity to play a role in the film. She accepted, and her life was about to change. THE SUCCESS OF SISSI Romy’s naturalness transcended the silver screen, and she was inundated with job offers after her debut. But her big break came when she played the role of Empress Elisabeth of Austria in Sissi. This was followed by Sissi: The Young Empress and Sissi: The Fateful Years of an Empress, both of which were a huge success. For the actress, however, the legacy was too much of a professional burden, one she tried to leave behind for the rest of her life. In 1956, the actress travelled to Hollywood. Two years later, she met the actor Alain Delon in Paris, with whom she had a passionate affair, even though he spoke no English and she spoke no French. In the following years, however, she shot a number of interesting films for the American industry, and the distance ultimately put an end to her relationship with Delon. In 1965, the actress met Harry Meyen, a young actor and theatre director. The fact that he was married was no impediment to their love, and they ended up getting married and having a son, David Christopher. Romy gave up her work to look after her son, but it was not long before she separated from Harry, to whom she gave half her fortune in exchange for custody of the little boy. Shortly afterwards, Harry committed suicide. The actress met Daniel Biasini, married him, and had their daughter, Sarah Magdalena. When her second marriage also began to fail, Romy started drinking uncontrollably. It was her good friend and producer, Laurent Petin, who took care of her when she was hung over. They ended up falling in love and moving in together, but the actress was already suffering from persistent depression.

A FALLING STAR By the age of 43, having won the César Award twice for her performances in That Most Important Thing: Love, and A Simple Story, Romy Schneider’s health had deteriorated. It was then that she received the worst possible news: David, her 14-yearold son, was climbing the railings of their house when he slipped and was impaled on them. The boy was bleeding to death when they got him to the operating table, and nothing could be done to save his life.

La actriz decide encerrarse en un hotel, sin querer salir de la cama. Es entonces cuando Delon decide alejarla de los periodistas y llevarla a su finca, para que pudiera reponerse del golpe.

As night fell on May 29th 1982, Romy sat down in an armchair and began writing a letter she would never finish. She was found dead, just 10 months after losing her son. Some say it was a heart attack, others, suicide. She was buried near Paris and, given that she was penniless, it was her friends who had to pay for her funeral. Her life in black and white could not diminish her luminosity on the big screen.

O

n the 31st of July, Twisted Art Gallery in Puerto Banús hosted an exclusive solo exhibition of superstar artist, Alec Monopoly. As the only authorised gallery in Spain that exhibits Monopoly’s artwork, they brought him to Marbella for the first time and exhibited over 40 pieces of his works for one night only. Invited guests were lucky enough to see this showcase of his work and meet the artist himself at this glamorous event. Art collectors and gallery owners Dylan King and Kevin Simpson have been collecting Alec Monopoly’s works for five years. They first purchased an Alec Monopoly Richie Rich artwork in 2018, and have collected many more of his iconic artworks in their personal collection. With the opening of their gallery in June this year, they were very excited to be able to bring his artwork to Spain. Twisted Art Gallery is one of only three galleries in Europe lucky enough to directly work with Alec Monopoly, and they transported over 40 pieces from his last event in Mykonos to exhibit them in Marbella this summer. The gallery also exhibits Alec Monopoly all year round, alongside 20 other artists. Their contemporary collection of 500 artworks is rotated regularly to delight visitors with the very hottest urban, street, pop and decorative art. At present, they have three Alec Monopoly artworks on display, with many more available to enjoy and purchase. Alec Monopoly is originally from New York City, and his graffiti art can be seen in urban environments across the world. Growing up in New York with a classically trained painter as a mother, Monopoly considers himself a lifelong artist. Eschewing formal training for his pursuit of creating street art, Monopoly has established himself as one of the foremost artists of this genre. His unique style takes a light-hearted approach, differentiating him from his contemporaries, and giving his art a relatable quality. Using varied materials (including stencils, spray paint, epoxies, varnishes, and newspapers) Monopoly subversively depicts various icons of pop culture using cartoon illustrations as his own political commentary, and in the process has generated his own recognizable style of street art. Monopoly’s tableaux, done on city surfaces, newsprint, sheet music or canvas, his work typically depicts the moustachioed, top-hat-wearing, Monopoly board game character performing a variety of activities, from sprinting with a moneybag under one arm, to spinning turntables as a DJ. In 2016, Swiss watch company TAG Heuer announced a collaboration with Monopoly at Miami Art Basel, naming him the company’s “art provocateur.” He created a mural, live and on the red carpet for the 2013 film, “BELIEVE,” about Justin Bieber. Monopoly’s work has been purchased by Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Snoop Dogg, Seth Rogan, Adrien Brody, and Iggy Azalea, among other renowned collectors.

W

e spoke with Osvaldo Lobalzo, the plastic artist, painter and sculptor who is known for his large format murals and textures. With an artistic career of more than 40 years, he opens the doors of his studio in Sotogrande to show us his day-to-day life. He defines himself as an art worker, quoting the famous phrase of one of his favorite painters. With more than 4,000 works representing his different stages distributed around the world, the reunion with his art pieces is always a surprise, due to the audacity that always drives him to go above and beyond. In his first works there was a

figurative reference, although his resounding expressive and energetic backgrounds announced a material abstraction that would soon arrive, in which collage and paint would take over the surfaces. His love for materials takes him in search of organic substances such as wood, cardboard, fabrics, giving them a second chance, making them work in a context where imagination comes into play and the artwork reaches its cumulative perfection. As the photos show, in all Osvaldo Lobalzo’s works there are architectural references in which the artist plays with different perspectives, giving free reign to the viewer’s imagination.

e is considered the most important sculptor in the world who creates monumental bronze sculptures Born in Ceuta, Spain, Ginés Serrán Pagán has lived most of his life in New York. He has held 250 exhibitions in 30 countries, on five continents. Nowdays, he is widely accepted as the most recognized contemporary artist in the world. He is also a well known anthropologist, graduated at NYU, New York University. He was an Advisor to the United Nations and the Ford Foundation on indigenous issues. He was adopted as a brother by the American Indians in the Sun Dance and has received recognition from the Sioux people for defending their human rights. He has made more than three thousand paintings, sculptures and ceramics collected by important museums, including the Guggenheim Museum in New York, and by numerous institutions and private collectors. His eclecticism, from abstraction and expressionism to a new Renaissance realism, is unique. He is considered the most important sculptor in the world who creates monumental bronze sculptures. “He is the new Michelangelo,” said the Medicci descendant, with the mayor of Miami and other authorities, when awarding him the Medicci Medal of Art.

His monument “The Emperador’s Arch”, 23 meters high, a composition of nine sculptures located in Manila, is considered the largest in the Philippines. The sculptures of Venus, Genesis and Vulcan on the bank of the Ohio River in Ashland, Kentucky, form the largest bronze sculpture group in the United States. His bronze sculptures, “The Columns of Hercules” and “The Union of the World”, in Ceuta, are currently the largest in the world of Classical Mythology. He has received important international awards and recognitions. ilar Candil es periodista y dirige Lima Comunicación y Eventos, una agencia boutique fundada junto a su pareja, Ángel Pardo. Ambos son profesionales con una amplia experiencia en el sector del motor y la gastronomía. Después de iniciar su trayectoria en Madrid, decidieron vivir en Marbella y seguir trabajando en lo que más les gusta: la comunicación gastronómica. En su porfolio destacan Estrellas Michelin como José Carlos García, Sollo o El Lago; hoteles como Boho Club y Anantara Villa Padierna; y otros clientes como Delicias Gourmet Group, el restaurante La Alvaroteca, o el proyecto más reciente, Terra by Diego del Río. ¿Por qué decidisteis centrar vuestro negocio en la Costa del Sol? Aunque somos de Madrid, yo pasaba mis vacaciones con mi familia desde pequeña en Marbella. Teníamos claro que en el futuro queríamos vivir aquí y hace cuatro años las circunstancias hicieron que nos trasladáramos antes de lo que pensábamos y por eso decidimos empezar a trabajar en una provincia que está creciendo muchísimo gastronómicamente y que ofrece muchas posibilidades en el ámbito de la comunicación y los eventos. Conocíamos a muchos cocineros de la zona, hablamos con ellos y a partir de esos encuentros cimentamos nuestra propia agencia. ¿Cómo es vuestro trabajo en la comunicación gastronómica? El trabajo lo realizamos a medida con cada uno de nuestros clientes. Construimos su comunicación, gestionamos sus relaciones con la prensa y también cuidamos todo lo que tiene que ver con su imagen, desde su página web o el diseño de los menús, e incluso les ayudamos a crear acuerdos con diferentes marcas. Lima Comunicación y Eventos organiza eventos para sus clientes, pero también ha creado proyectos propios como ChefsForChildren y Unidos. ChefsForChildren nació gracias a nuestra amistad con muchos de los cocineros que participan. Sabíamos que son un colectivo muy solidario y que podían ayudarnos a resaltar los valores que ellos defienden: nuestra gastronomía y nuestra cultura; y también nos dimos cuenta de que los

niños necesitaban aprender a comer sano. De ahí surgió nuestro eslogan: “Comer sano es divertido”; y por eso son las grandes estrellas de la cocina quienes enseñan a los pequeños a alimentarse de forma saludable con talleres de cocina en los que realizan recetas sencillas. Es un evento solidario maravilloso que celebrará su sexta edición el 22 de abril de 2024 en Anantara Villa Padierna y en el que participarán más de 50 reconocidos chefs de toda España. Y, por otro lado, Unidos, surgió precisamente de nuestra relación con los cocineros malagueños con Estrella Michelin, que son amigos, se apoyan y se llevan fenomenal. Es un evento para poner en valor la alta gastronomía de la provincia. Este año hemos organizado la tercera edición en colaboración con Cívitas Puerto Banús y repetiremos en 2024 con muchas sorpresas en las que ya estamos trabajando con mucha ilusión. ¿Cuál es la mejor forma de comunicar en gastronomía?El Considero que lo mejor es ser muy sincero. Me gusta la gente que comunica “sin filtro”. En las reuniones de trabajo con los cocineros con los que nosotros trabajamos siempre digo que no hace falta que nos inventemos nada. Cuéntame quién eres, cuéntame lo que haces y lo que pretendes y yo le doy forma, elaborado una estrategia para comunicarlo. En la actualidad, vivimos en un mundo en el que hay muchas cosas impostadas, yo creo que lo que gusta más es lo auténtico. ¿Qué recomendaría a un negocio que quiera mejorar su comunicación? Aconsejo que se deje asesorar por un profesional que le ayude a poner especial cuidado en su imagen. La comunicación hay que saber entenderla y en el sector de la restauración hay mucho desconocimiento, por lo que lo recomendable es dirigirse a una agencia de comunicación especializada como la nuestra. Nosotros trazamos un plan, le explicamos cómo llevarlo a cabo y le ayudamos a mostrar lo que hacen, gestionamos la relación con los medios de comunicación e incluso con las relaciones institucionales, que muchos de ellos no cuidan. Al final se trata de mostrar lo que haces. Me gusta decirles a mis clientes que la comunicación es una patita más del negocio y que debemos trabajar en equipo.

S

ince when have you been in the hotel industry? My relationship with the hotel industry began 18 years ago when I fell in love with this world. I’ve always used my internships to grow both personally and professionally, and I’ve been fortunate enough to get to know different destinations around the world, such as London, the Middle East, Central America, the Balearic Islands and Andalusia. All of this experience is what has led me, since 2013, to occupy general management positions. Starting in Costa Rica, Ibiza, and now at the Hard Rock Hotel Marbella, where it’s a great pleasure to have opened this hotel. Hard Rock Hotel Marbella is the fifth hotel I’ve opened, and I hope to continue in the world of hospitality for many years to come. What type of clientele comes to Hard Rock Hotel Marbella?? Our clientele varies depending on the season we’re in. In summer, our guests tend to be younger, they come to Marbella and to the hotel with a desire for leisure. Outside the summer season, due to the characteristics of the Hard Rock Hotel Marbella, we’ve found we have a mix of guests from the MICE and sports sectors, such as golfers. As for winter, this one will be our first, so it remains to be seen what type of guest will come to the Hard Rock Hotel Marbella. What do guests find when they come to Hard Rock Hotel Marbella? The first thing they find is a building from the 1970s which is representative of the beginnings of the development of Puerto Banús as a holiday destination. The place still retains its essence, but has been renovated to offer an incredible experience to both tourists and residents in Marbella. Always with music as its trademark, and a style inspired by the ye-ye movement, which undoubtedly marks the difference in its 383 rooms. Which corner of the hotel would you recommend? It depends on what you’re looking for at any given time. If you want to cool off while enjoying a DJ session, the Eden pool. But if you’re looking for a spectacular view while you’re in the water, the best option is Sun Society. On the other hand, there are options that don’t involve wearing a bathing suit, like GMT+1, our lobby bar, where you can check out the life of this wonderful hotel. To relax, a water circuit in the RockSpa. Although if you want to feel like a real rock star, without a doubt, our Rock Star Suite.

How do you see the luxury hospitality sector in Marbella? Well, Marbella, along with Puerto Banús, has been associated with luxury for several decades, as have destinations such as Monaco or Ibiza. Now we’re experiencing a change, new brands are arriving, renovations, and the number of hotel rooms on the Costa del Sol is increasing. In our case, we’re not in the classic luxury sector. Hard Rock Hotels as a brand is internationally recognised in the upscale sector, and as a hotel, Hard Rock Hotel Marbella is classified as a 4-star hotel, although our visitors often think we are 5-star. We really are a different proposal, an alternative for tourists and residents in the area. What do you like most about Marbella? Marbella has a lot to offer - culture, gastronomy, leisure, its people… Although if I had to highlight one, it would be its microclimate, with year-round temperatures that allow you to enjoy all kinds of activities, regardless of the season. It’s also a paradise for golf enthusiasts, who can come in winter and even play in shorts. Are you open in winter? This is the first year we’re open during the winter. Throughout October we’re celebrating “Pinktober”, the Hard Rock month in support of the fight against breast cancer. In fact, on the 19th of October, we’re having a charity evening where we’ll be raffling one of our pink guitars, and you’ll be able to enjoy our Pink Cocktail... At Halloween, we’ve also prepared an activity, “Hard Rock Ween”, with a themed evening party, and a costume contest. In November, we have the showcase of the group Bombai at the hotel, which we hope will also be a great success. And to round off the year, our Christmas programme, with a gala dinner to say farewell to 2023, and a New Year’s Eve party to see in the New Year. A sentence with which you’d like to bring to a close? We’re not just a tourist-focused hotel, our aim is to become the meeting point for those looking for alternative plans in the city of Marbella. It started with the London Design Festival at the Global Design Forum where I had the pleasure of being part of fascinating conversations, such as harnessing the possibilities of AI or where the concept of Design Intelligence was discussed with amazing professionals such as Ali Estami, principal research scientist at Google DeepMind; Google’s AI department. I was blown away by the innovative and stunning materials, fabrics, wallpapers, products, and special lighting technology presented during the festival in the different design districts. I do believe that the key to a good design is the combination of the right lighting concept and materials which offer a contrast through their pattern and texture. And then a touch of color should be present to create some drama or an unexpected effect. During my time in London, I had the joy of visiting Gabrielle Chanel’s Fashion Manifesto exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum. More than 300 original pieces designed by her were exhibited. A dazzling display of Chanel’s creations, almost unicolor but with a very rich and subtle combination of materials and patterns. This just reminded me of my key rules for designing any interior space. Among an array of wonderful designs, one of the most exciting moments for me was entering the room where the replica of one of her most important fashion shows was exhibited because that important moment was an inflection point in her career. She decided to present a revolutionary new collection. That made me reflect on her courage. Not just because she redesigned the fashion world but because of the extreme revolution she was making using fabrics in a completely unusual way. Jerseys for elegant day suits and silk for pyjamas. Gabriel Chanel is a lasting contribution to the complete design world which shows us firsthand the importance of design intelligence. After that very enriching weekend, I had the pleasure to be invited by the company Cosentino to a fabulous design summit, where 300 interior, and product designers and companies from all around the world were present. We visited their headquarters in Almería and had the privilege of meeting Tom Dixon and Claudia Asfhar who presented us the very revolutionary designs they are doing with this company’s designers using their ceramic tiles. It is the first time that a large ultracompact stone is presented with a geometric pattern. This is a revolution in our interior design industry. We also had the honor of being the first designers to “taste” Gaggenau’s latest and revolutionary kitchen technology which they will launch this coming spring to the market. I am not revealing any more details except that the way of cooking will never be the same again. I love how technology and design complement themselves so well, how creativity is needed for making changes, and how boundaries have always been pushed. Gabrielle was born into a poor family. She lost her mother at the age of 12, and her father, a peddler, took her to a hospice, where she spent six years learning to sew with the nuns. When she turned 18, she left the orphanage and began working as a shop assistant in a haberdashery. She combined her job with performances at La Rotonde, a place where army officers would go to hear her sing the story of a girl who had lost her dog Coco. They began to call her Petite Coco, a name she adopted for life. Years later, once settled in Paris, she decided to open a fashion house. She bought several dozen hats from Galeries Lafayette, redesigned them, and put them on sale. They were quite a success, and this encouraged her to launch her own fashion line. HER OWN INNOVATIVE STYLE Coco Chanel had ideas of her own. Not only did she free women from the corset, so common at the time, she also introduced knitwear into her collections and dressed women in sweaters, considered a very masculine garment up until then. Another of her creations was the charming chemise dress, a shirt dress without a waistline that accentuated the female bust with a few simple pearls. Pleated sailor skirts, low-waisted suits, mackintoshes, the mix of Scottish tweed with costume jewellery, the round-toed shoe, and the gold chain shoulder bag were also among her innovations. Even Jackie Kennedy succumbed to her charms when she appeared at a public event in a raspberry-coloured couture suit with black silk trim.

Coco Chanel dared to shorten skirts and expose the female ankle, and appeared in public with a tan, which had always been associated with commoners. A free spirit whose style was adopted by women the world over. RUIN AND REVIVAL After the First World War, her business continued to flourish, even internationally, thanks to appearing in the most prestigious magazines of the time. However, the Wall Street Crash of 1929 forced her to close her shops. During the interwar period she retired from the world of fashion, but at the age of 71, she decided to reopen her boutique, because, as she confessed to her friends, she was bored. From the first day she got back behind the scenes of fashion, she continued to design as she had always done, creating her collections with pins on the actual models, without making a single sketch. The influence of the grand lady of French fashion touched all aspects of fashion, from the cut of dresses, to perfumes, shoes and accessories. Even her garçon haircut was a trend-setter, and she herself became the best model for her brand. Chanel’s prototypical woman became slim and flat-chested, often dressed in loose-fitting, comfortable clothes, and above all, feeling free. Coco Chanel never married, but the polo player Arthur “Boy” Capel was the great love of her life and the person who encouraged her most on a professional level. Their relationship ended when Arthur died in a car accident. From then on, the designer gave a new prominence in her collections to the colour black.

El crack de Wall Street en 1929 le obligó, sin embargo, a cerrar sus tiendas. Durante el tiempo de entreguerras se retiró del mundo de la moda, pero con 71 años decidió abrir de nuevo su boutique porque, tal y como confesó a sus amigos, se aburría. Desde el primer día en que regresó a la trastienda de la moda siguió diseñando como siempre había hecho: creando sus colecciones con alfileres sobre las propias modelos, sin realizar ni un solo boceto. Incluso su corte de pelo, a lo garçone, marcó tendencia, convertida ella misma en la mejor modelo de su firma. La mujer prototipo de Chanel pasó a ser delgada y con poco pecho, iba vestida en ocasiones con ropa ancha y cómoda, y sobre todo se sentía libre. Años después, consumida por la artritis y el reumatismo, la diseñadora fallecía en París con el orgullo de haber conformado un estilo cuyas reminiscencias nunca han dejado de estar de moda.

Dolce&Gabbana and Sierra Blanca Estates unveil new details of their first joint residential project; Design Hills Dolce Gabbana Marbella

D

uring the recent private presentation event on September 8th at the exclusive Beach Club “LA CABANE” on the Costa del Sol, the Italian fashion house and the Marbella developer unveiled the first images of their joint residential project, Design Hills, as well as details about Dolce&Gabbana’s debut in the European Real Estate market. Situated on Marbella’s exclusive Golden Mile, Design Hills Dolce&Gabbana Marbella will occupy a plot of almost 90,000m2, giving life to 92 multiple-format homes in a complex of extraordinary architectural design, which will also have various other spaces, such as fashion, leisure and gastronomic boulevards. Dolce&Gabbana and Sierra Blanca Estates unveiled the first digital images of their upcoming project during the launch event, as

well as detailed information about the architecture, design and the different spaces that will compose the future residential complex. Design Hills Dolce&Gabbana Marbella will be made up of a complex of five stunning buildings of a pure and modern design, surrounded by lush gardens and outdoor infinity pools. The homes in the development will range in size from 280 to 900m2, with up to five bedrooms, and will be fully furnished with exclusive creations by Dolce&Gabbana Casa. Some of the key features of these luxury residences will be master bedrooms with dressing rooms and ensuite bathrooms overlooking the sea; massage and make-up rooms; spacious living and dining rooms opening onto private outdoor spaces with views of the coastline; roof terraces with swimming pools and solariums; staff quarters; entertainment rooms; exclusive

Design Hills will also cater to the needs of the youngest members of the family by hosting its own Kids Club with a play centre, classrooms and private lessons, a fully-equipped indoor and outdoor playground area, and even its own camping area where the little ones can take advantage of Marbella’s warm temperatures throughout the year. To complete the offer at the disposal of all visitors, Design Hills will have its own shopping boulevard, bringing together the best international luxury retail brands, as well as numerous signature restaurants, cafés and other gastronomic establishments. FUTURE After the recent launch of the project in Marbella, Design Hills will start the work to meet the completion deadline in 2026, with the aim of finishing its show-home apartment by 2025. After the presentation of the project by the designers themselves, the process of selling the first units will officially begin from a waiting list of between 40 and 50 potential clients who have already shown their keen interest in becoming future owners of the first homes in Europe designed by Dolce&Gabbana. What’s more, Design Hills Dolce&Gabbana Marbella will represent a milestone in Sierra Blanca Estates’ more than three decades of history and experience in the sector, by becoming the first project of the developer, founded by Pedro Rodríguez, to combine residential, commercial, artistic, leisure and gastronomic areas in the same complex.

MARBELLA RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS CLUB Considered one of the best Rhythmic Gymnastics clubs in Spain, it has managed to position our young gymnasts, who have triumphed in the best positions in national and international championships for more than 30 years. VICTOR GARCÍA (PLAY IN COLORS) The young man in charge of Play in Colors, a renowned company that paints sports facilities, providing a new perspective on the urban landscape through the use of colors and shapes to make enveloping works. Olga speaks 5 languages fluently, and she is a recognised, highly-esteemed, respected figure who is fully integrated in Marbella. She has work experience in Business Event Organisation, Real Estate development and Interior Design. Currently, she is assisting her partner, Max Heilbron, a famous telecom entrepreneur who made a name for himself in Europe by opening the first competing telecom and internet companies in the nineties. Olga has an 11-year-old daughter, and is focused on family life, loyalty, traditions and values, and on having a healthy diet and lifestyle. She loves sports, and works out a lot with her personal trainer, Dasha Akinshina (@dashaakinshina), international master of fitness sports and world fitness champion. Olga’s hobbies are skiing, discovering the world, fitness guru and Dolce & Gabbana model. CHARITY GALA “MOROCCAN FUSION” BY ROTARY CLUB MARBELLA Rotary Marbella Cosmopolitan holds an annual Gala dinner in Puente Romano Resort as the new president looks ahead after the devastation of the recent earthquake in Morocco. The annual Rotary Gala was organised to raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a complex and unpredictable condition that affects the central nervous system – “One day you can be fine, the next you can lose your sight and be unable to move.” stated the current president, Souad Charifi Hadj. All the donations were to be destined to the Marbella Multiple Sclerosis Association. However, when a powerful earthquake devastated communities in western Morocco, destroying homes and causing thousands of deaths and widespread damage, we decided to donate 50% to the Multiple Sclerosis Association and 50% to help the people of Morocco. The Marbella Multiple Sclerosis Association’s aims and objectives, included in its 2003 statutes, focus on providing psychological assistance to the sick and their families. Rotary Clubs bring people together across generations, people who wish to make lasting

changes in the world, in their communities, and in themselves. Being a member means having the opportunity to experience the warm fellowship of a Rotary Club which can greatly expand your circle of acquaintances, foster lifelong friendships, and help you do things for your community that you may well never accomplish alone. A DAY TO REMEMBER: CHARITY LUNCH FOR MARBELLA’S LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTERS In the picturesque landscape of Siroko beach, Monday 2nd of October marked an extraordinary charity lunch event which left an unforgettable memory in our hearts and in the Costa del Sol community. More than just a delightful gathering, this was a call to action to help animals in our community. And the results? Truly incredible. Organized by Olivia O Wickerts and with generous support from sponsors like Omeo Design, Palmeras Property, Solarsurf, Homerun Brokers, and Billo, the event aimed to support three local shelters - Triple A, the Arch, and Donkey Dreamland - who work tirelessly to provide shelter, care, and hope to many animals in need. One particularly touching moment was when Solarsurf generously donated a complete solar panel system to the Arch horse rescue center, which will provide all the electricity the center needs. Prior to this, the 85-yearold founder had been running the place without electricity. This generous donation brought tears of happiness to everyone’s eyes, and highlighted the incredible impact that community support can have on helping animals in need. Thanks to the kindness of the attendees, over €60,000 were raised; an impressive achievement, but the journey is far from over. We encourage everyone who believes in the cause of animal welfare to continue contributing. Your donations, big or small, can make a significant difference in the lives of animals in Costa del Sol.
