CompulsoryandOp�onalSubjects

InYear9studentswillstarttheirKS4courses-GCSEandBTEC

AllofourstudentswilltakeGCSEEnglishLanguage,GCSEEnglishLiterature,GCSEReligiousStudiesandGCSEMathema�cs. Addi�onally,allofourstudentswillbedoingGCSEsineithersingleorcombinedSciences.TheywillalsostudyanonGCSE courseinPE.Studentsmustalsochooseuptothreemorecourses,whichtheystudyuptoGCSEoranequivalentlevel.

Atthisstagenotallstudentsknowwhattheywanttodointheirfuturecareersandtheirideasaboutthiscanchangeover �me.Therefore,itisimportantthatstudentschooseabroadrangeofsubjectswhichtheyenjoyandatwhichtheycan succeed.

Wewillrecommendandencouragestudentstofollowoneofthefourroutes;A,B,C,orD(below)whicharedesigned toprovidetheappropriatelevelsofsupportandchallenge.

HighachievingstudentswillbeplacedonourSTEMroute,thiswillgivethemtheopportunitytoachievegrade9’sacross theirthreeSciencedisciplines-Biology,ChemistryandPhysics.Thiswillenablethemtogainentrytothetopuniversi�esin futureandqualifytostudymedicine,den�stryandotheracademicsubjectswithhighentryrequirements.

RouteB

Studentswillchoosethreeop�onsubjects.Studentswhoareconsideringacademicroutestouniversityinthefuture shouldconsidertakingabroadacademicmixacrosshumani�es,languagesandcrea�vesubjects,keepingmul�ple post-16op�onsopen.

RouteC

Studentswillchoosetwoop�onsubjects.Thisrouteisforstudentswhoneedaddi�onal�metosecureMaths andEnglish.Their�metableincludesaddi�onalMathsandaddi�onalEnglish,wheretheyfollowamastery programmetobuildthecoreknowledgeandskillsrequiredforsuccess.

Studentswillchooseoneop�onsubject.Studentsonthisroutewillbegivenaddi�onal�metoimprovetheirliteracy and/ornumeracyskills,withafocusonprac�calliteracy,numeracy,andlifeskills.ThisprovisionmayincludeASDANaccreditedprogrammes,offeringpersonalised,prac�callearningthatbuildsconfidence,recognisesachievement,and supportsstudentsinaccessingthefullcurriculumwhilepreparingthemforlifebeyondschool.
