Some Considerations When Looking At Long Range Rifles Every sport or leisure activity that we enjoy comes with its own requirements and responsibilities, no matter where we practice it, or how often we take part – not if we want to be good at it. Take, for example, shooting. Shooting takes on many forms: some individuals enjoy target shooting, or they set aside their weekends for competition shooting; others love wingshooting in Georgia, or deer hunting in Alabama. Some prefer shooting over short distances; then there are those that find shooting over long ranges much more exciting. Of course every hunter or shooter wants to know that they will be on target all the time, in other words that they can count on accuracy, also with regard to the specific rifle they turn up with in the bush or wherever they shoot. Many make sure that they attend a good shooting school or course where they are taught the appropriate tactics and best methods for long-range shooting practices. Good instructors offer theoretical knowledge, but also practical – and they make sure their students receive individual, one-on-one attention so that you understand the techniques which are required for long-range shooting. Good shooting schools are always advised – but so are acquiring a good long-range rifle. There are so many rifles on the market, and some will always stand out because they are known to be better suited for the purposes of the long-range shooter. Also, it often depends on what type of long-range shooting interests you. For example, when you choose a rifle for target shooting, bear in mind that the type of longrange rifle you choose will most likely be heavier than other choices, to offer the best results (taking into account, too, important aspects related to topography and weather conditions, for example). Greater barrel and stock weight will assist with rigidity, which ensures greater precision. The opposite is also true: for those stalking deer and buck for miles, the heavier rifle may become cumbersome, and a lightweight precision rifle such as, say, a PROOF Research ™ may be a better choice. In fact, this rifle is recommended and used by many a long-range hunter for its lightweight and other positive features for the hunter looking for precision and accuracy. Any hunter that has to negotiate difficult terrain for miles knows that he/she may sacrifice accuracy because of having to carry a heavier rifle for long distances.
