Evan SmithThe Lily Paddles is a light-wood construction kayak storage pavilion located on Belle Isle in Detroit, MI. With a playful roof structure and gutters that make up its rain management system, Lily Paddles choreographs the water’s movement as it cascades down into the series of rain gardens below.
The Neo-Soul Center of Detroit is an expressive piece of architecture inspired by the rythym and freedom of R&B music.
It features a large performance space, cafe, practice spaces for local musicians, and a large community garden.
This Music Studio is made for and inspired by the music of Lauryn Hill. Located across the street from Eastern Market, The design aims to combine her smooth, weaving voice with the rhythim and rigidity of her instrumentals. The Music Studio features a sunken conversation pit and bi-folding walls that open up to the outdoor courtyard for performances.
The Medium aims to demonstrate that the synergy arising from diverse artists living and working together not only nurtures creativity but also produces enriched artistic expressions. By seamlessly blending private and communal spaces, this collective dwelling promotes a culture of cross-pollination, where shared experiences lead to the creation of truly inspired art.
