CLUB Natacion Torrevieja had a busy weekend with two events - the first, a full day, in the Municipal Pool Elda on Saturday, and a second trophy competition in the Monte Tossal Pool, Alicante on Sunday. On Saturday Elian Del Rio Castillo reduced his 100 metre freestyle time by two seconds and Yuriy Lymar improved his best by a second in the 50 metre freestyle. Nikita Mikhaylov had a good swim in his 100 metre freestyle as did Louise Brassington. Zoe Connolly knocked another second off her 100 metre backstroke time, and in her 400 metre freestyle she reduced her personal best by four seconds. On Sunday the club competed in the XV Trophy Diputacion de Natacion. Ages ranged from eight years to 14 years and races covered all four strokes. Torrevieja swimmers had some good personal results and two of the club’s girls won trophies in the event which attracted 360 swimmers. Georgy Murskiy and brother Konstantin had

Injuries don’t stop Monte EVEN before kick-off against Benejuzar Monte had their subs reduced as keeper Cesar was injured in the warm up and replacement stopper Lopez was called in. Early possession went to Monte with slick passing and, for a change noted by the home support of 255, playing the ball on the ground. This was great to see as Monte’s injury-depleted squad, missing four key players, created numerous chances with Macan, Marcos and
M+A all testing the away keeper. In the 40th minute they got their deserved reward when a text book, one-touch move involving Fernando, Marcos and Orourker allowed Dimitry to send in a glorious cross for Macan to tap in and it was 1-0. The second half started with good moves by Monte going unrewarded. When Dario was replaced by Sito and Macan by Ruben, Monte seemed to lose their shape. Minutes later Benejuzar
created a carbon copy of Monte’s goal to equalise on 75 minutes, which set up a grand-standing last quarter of an hour of the game. Monte continued to pressure although they still looked vulnerable in defence, then on 83 minutes after Dimitry shot wide, Dani was subbed for Yonhi and his cross was headed in by M+A to make it 2-1.

First local derby From back page by Pablo, who came to the rescue again a few minutes later when he raced out of goal to make a further good clearance. Mazarron began to take control and had three or four good chances, most falling to leading scorer Tolo, although Camposol did have one chance of their own. However, two minutes before half time Cecilio opened his account for the season when he headed Mazarron into the lead. In the second half Tolo was soon into action again and in the 60th minute he saw a long-range shot go narrowly over the bar. In the 80th minute Mazarron’s Manu was shown a straight red card and the game started to get a little out of hand with a number of bookings. The teams were evened up in the 83rd minute when former Mazarron striker Boudia was sent off for Sporting Camposol.
