THESSALONIKI AT A GLANCE A brief description of LGBTI life in Greece and in Thessaloniki Legal situation in Greece Postive changes have been made in Greece over the past 2 decades, changes that have given a great amount of hope to the local LGBTI community. Most recently the government has been gradually building a legal shield for Greek LGBTI people. The civil partnership expansion to same sex couples, an anti-discrimination law in the workplace, an anti-discrimination law which penalizes some forms of hate speech that target sexual orientation and gender identity and a new gender identity law that simplifies the procedure of trans people changing their legal documents, (deprived of sterilisation, GID/medical diagnosis,or surgical/medical intervention requirements) due to be voted in the parliament in few weeks, are some of the initiatives driven by the Greek government.
