FINISHES 2020 AS THE TOP-SELLING ALBUM OF THE YEAR IN THE U.S

T

he only album to sell at least a million copies during the year, according to mrc data. Plus, the superstar has now claimed the topselling album of the year five times — becoming the first act to earn the honor dating to mrc data’s first full year of tracking in 1992. Folklore was released on July 24 and sold 1.276 million copies through Dec. 31, 2020. Swift also logged the top-selling album of the year in the U.S. in 2019 (Lover, 1.09 million), 2017 (Reputation, 1.9 million), 2014 (1989, 3.66 million) and 2009 (Fearless, 3.22 million).

In both 2020 and 2019, only one album sold a million copies in the U.S., and both were by Swift. Strikingly, just three of the top-selling albums of the last 12 years have been by an act other than Swift or Adele.

The latter had the top-seller in 2016 and 2015 (25, with 1.73 million and 7.44 million sold in those years, respectively) and in 2012 and 2011 (21, with 4.41 and 5.82 million). The only non-Swift or Adele acts with the top-selling album between 2009 and 2020 were Eminem (Recovery, 2010; 3.41 million), Justin Timberlake (The 20/20 Experience, 2013; 2.43 million) and the multi-artist soundtrack to The Greatest Showman (2018, 1.49 million).

Swift has two of the top 10 selling albums of 2020, as her most recent album, Evermore (released on Dec. 11), was the year’s No. 10 seller with 283,000 copies sold through Dec. 31. Both Folklore and Evermore were released with little notice,

and both opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The latter gave Swift her eighth leader on the tally.

Let Down by ‘Wonder Woman 1984’? Here are 3 Great Superhero Movies.

T

he Wonder Woman sequel received mixed reviews. But there are plenty of excellent and entertaining alternatives to watch, and many that never received the attention they deserve. Last month, Warner Bros. released the coronavirus-delayed “Wonder Woman 1984,” a sequel to the 2017 hit “Wonder Woman.” The actionadventure movie has done relatively well at the box office (in places where theaters are open), even though it’s also available for a limited time on the streaming service HBO Max.

‘Big Hero 6’ The Oscar-winning “Big Hero 6” is a fine example of how the exaggerated, cartoony illustrations common to animation lend themselves well to kinetic, fantastical action. The film is also kid-friendly, telling the story of a moody teenage genius who assembles a group of techsavvy nerds to help him, along with his adorably squishy super-robot Baymax, unravel a conspiracy. At once cute and visually dazzling, “Big Hero 6” is an old-fashioned superhero tale suffused with positivity.

A Marvel Comics movie, about a mad scientist driven by tragedy to become a vigilante, disguised in an artificial skin that dissolves in sunlight. “Darkman” combines elements of old Universal monster movies, gritty 1970s superhero comics and slapstick comedy. Though it’s rated R and not appropriate for younger viewers, the movie is a true original.

Comic book connoisseurs disappointed in “Wonder Woman 1984” had an excellent alternative last year for their DC Comics superheroine fix. In the “Suicide Squad” spinoff “Birds of Prey,” Margot Robbie reprises her role as the delightfully daffy Gotham City rogue Harley Quinn, who joins forces with some slightly more virtuous ladies in an explosive standoff with a local mob boss.

he year 2021 started on a gloom for the music producer at Chillspoy Records Arnold Kamudyariwa popularly known as DJ Fantan and Levels were on the run for being chief suspects in the case of breaching lockdown regulations on New Year’s Eve for hosting a musical concert in Mbare .

The duo who had gone mia for days recently handed themselves on a silver plate at the Matapi Police Station coupled up with their lawyers .The two pleaded guilty before a magistrate and were slapped with a 12 months jail term but six months were suspended on

grounds of good behavior and for not wasting the courts time so the two will spend 6 months in jail.

This also comes after some rumours surfaced that Sungura legend Alick Macheso was also booked on New Year’s Eve in Mutare by some businessman.

2020 was a tough year and we always make up for it at the year end but if things gets even tough we implement easy ways to help ourselves. Eddie: The first edition took place on the 27th of December 2020 at Shoestrings Backpackers in Victoria Falls from 1800hrs to 2300hrs. There was Redcarpet from 4pm, at 1800hrs we had our first performance from a local artist.

From there Britney, addressed the crowd and the runway begun. A few models were dressed by local designers & it was soo so amazing having to see the creativity we have in the matebeleland region. After the runway, we had a pageantry and from this competition we only chose two winners titled the runway king and the runway queen. As models were preparing for different categories we had DJ Fatso and DJ Munya on the deck while our two handsome hosts, Thanduxolo also known as SharksNova and Tinashe also known as OkaMaSikhosana were keeping the night alive.

Eddie: Yes, of course Before results were announced, Future Nyoni was awarded Most Photogenic Male Model 2020 & Best Runway Male Model 2020.

Neils Ndlovu also received his award for the Most Promising male model 2021. The 2 gentleman were awarded

by Dr Paul Shambare. The best dressed couple award was given to Hazel Moyo & Macc Arthur Moyo. We also had A few designers graced the night too: we had Milly designers, Thrash Buck, Vusa Moyo, Gina Ngululu tours and Jerome wear. Of cause the makeup makes the pictures remarkable, two makeup brands were there to make our models look beautiful & handsome , thanks to Nail Glamour and beauty parlor & Hands of Gold.

am izzy the colorful kid an artist from gweru i just released summer of 1972 album recently with 10 songs, genres edm and hiphop. I called it summer of 1972 because i just wanted to bring all of the color i heard and beauty from that time to the now.Also 1972 was the birth year of my mom. The album features rapper madd dogg, edm producer sandman and also american producer dj beats along with beat makers mcheaven and ht.

We released the album with a video, pills and drugs, ft madd dogg to try and carve the intensity in which youths are taking drugs while also talking about the hustles the youth face to take those drugs in zimbabwe. The album was reviewed well with north carolinians as it was streamed live with american youtuber sky jordxn with over 31k subscribers.

THE DEATH OF A GOVERNMENT CLERK

O

NE fine evening, a no less fine government clerk called Ivan Dmitritch Tchervyakov was sitting in the second row of the stalls, gazing through an opera glass at the Cloches de Corneville.

He gazed and felt at the acme of bliss.

But suddenly. . . . In stories one so often meets with this “But suddenly.”

The authors are right: life is so full of surprises! But suddenly his face puckered up, his eyes disappeared, his breathing was arrested . . . he took the opera glass from his eyes, bent over and . . . “Aptchee!!” he sneezed as you perceive. It is not reprehensible for anyone to sneeze anywhere. Peasants sneeze and so do police superintendents, and sometimes even privy councillors.

All men sneeze. Tchervyakov was not in the least confused, he wiped his face with his handkerchief, and like a polite man, looked round to see whether he had disturbed any one by his sneezing. But then he was overcome with confusion.

He saw that an old gentleman sitting in front of him in the first row of the stalls was carefully wiping his bald head and his neck with his glove and muttering something to himself. In the old gentleman, Tchervyakov recognised Brizzhalov, a civilian general serving in the Department of Transport.

“I have spattered him,” thought

Tchervyakov, “he is not the head of my department, but still it is awkward. I must apologise.”

Tchervyakov gave a cough, bent his whole person forward, and whispered in the general’s ear.

“Pardon, your Excellency, I spattered you accidentally. . . .”

“Never mind, never mind.”

“For goodness sake excuse me, I . . . I did not mean to.”

“Oh, please, sit down! let me listen!”

Tchervyakov was embarrassed, he smiled stupidly and fell to gazing at the stage. He gazed at it but was no longer feeling bliss. He began to be troubled by uneasiness.

In the interval, he went up to Brizzhalov, walked beside him, and overcoming his shyness, muttered: “I spattered you, your Excellency, forgive me . . . you see . . . I didn’t do it to . . . .”

“Oh, that’s enough . . . I’d forgotten it, and you keep on

about it!” said the general, moving his lower lip impatiently.

“He has forgotten, but there is a fiendish light in his eye,” thought Tchervyakov, looking suspiciously at the general. “And he doesn’t want to talk. I ought to explain to him . . . that I really didn’t intend . . . that it is the law of nature or else he will think I meant to spit on him. He doesn’t think so now, but he will think so later!”

On getting home, Tchervyakov told his wife of his breach of good manners. It struck him that his wife took too frivolous a view of the incident; she was a little frightened, but when she learned that Brizzhalov was in a different department, she was reassured.

“Still, you had better go and apologise,” she said, “or he will think you don’t know how to behave in public.”

“That’s just it! I did apologise, but he took it somehow queerly . . . he didn’t say a word of sense. There wasn’t time to talk properly.”

When the general had finished his conversation with the last of the petitioners and was turning towards his inner apartments, Tchervyakov took a step towards

“Your Excellency! If I venture to trouble your Excellency, it is simply from a feeling I may say of regret! . . . It was not intentional if you will graciously believe me.”

The general made a lachrymose face, and waved his hand.

“Where’s the making fun in it?” thought Tchervyakov, “there is nothing of the sort! He is a general, but he can’t understand.

If that is how it is I am not going to apologise to that fanfaron any more! The devil take him. I’ll write a letter to him, but I won’t go. By Jove, I won’t.”

So thought Tchervyakov as he walked home; he did not write a letter to the general, he pondered and pondered and could not make up that letter. He had to go next day to explain in person.

“I ventured to disturb your

Excellency yesterday,” he muttered, when the general lifted enquiring eyes upon him, “not to make fun as you were pleased to say. I was apologising for having spattered you in sneezing. . . . And I did not dream of making fun of you. Should I dare to make fun of you, if we should take to making fun, then there would be no respect for persons, there would be. . . .”

“Be off!” yelled the general, turning suddenly purple, and shaking all over.

“What?” asked Tchervyakov, in a whisper turning numb with horror.

“Be off!” repeated the general, stamping.

Something seemed to give way in Tchervyakov’s stomach. Seeing nothing and hearing nothing he reeled to the door, went out into the street, and went staggering along. . . . Reaching home mechanically, without taking off his uniform, he lay down on the sofa and died.
