Overview During this lesson, students will gain understanding of how technology can be used to reduce the impact of a weather-related hazard. Students will integrate and exhibit learning by designing a SAM Earthquake Alert that will warn people when an earthquake is starting.

As a result of this lesson, students will be able to ➜ Identify the need for alert systems in weather-related hazards. ➜ Describe how an earthquake spreads from an epicenter.

➜ Design a SAM Earthquake Alert using sound and light.

➜ Create a system to simulate an earthquake and test the alert system.
