How It Works

Estes offers Seasonal Protect From Freezing (PFF) services

Your shipment will travel by Estes’ LTL ground to our Seattle, WA terminal. From there, we load the freight bound for Anchorage, Fairbanks, and South Central Alaska/the Rail Belt on containers. Freight bound for Southeast Alaska is loaded in dedicated ocean containers that travel by barge. Estes serves virtually every point in Alaska; however, most Alaska-bound freight goes to Anchorage and is trucked to its final destination in markets such as Fairbanks and Kenai.

FAQS

Does shipping to Alaska or Hawaii require any special forms or documentation?

Since both Alaska and Hawaii shipments are considered domestic freight, a Bill of Lading is the only required form. We deliver each shipment to Alaska or Hawaii on an Estes freight bill.

Does shipping to Puerto Rico or the Caribbean require any special forms or documentation?

Freight destined to Puerto Rico or the Caribbean requires a Bill of Lading, a Commercial Invoice, and an Electronic Export Information (EEI) filing. It’s very helpful to have the Commercial Invoice at the time of pickup whenever possible, and the importer’s Employer Identification Number (EIN) must be provided to avoid delays once the shipment arrives.

What is an Electronic Export Information (EEI) filing?

An Electronic Export Information (EEI) filing is required for single commodity items of $2,500 or more (some exceptions apply). The person or entity that receives the primary benefit, monetary or otherwise, from the export transaction is the party responsible for the EEI filing. Specific information on the EEI includes the importer’s Employer Identification Number (EIN), the telephone number of the consignee, commodity description, weight or dimensions (or cube), and the invoice value.

Find more FAQs about Offshore shipping on our website at estes-express.com

Shippers can file an EEI themselves at www.cbp.gov/ace, or they can authorize Estes to file the EEI on their behalf by signing an authorization form and providing additional shipment information.

How does Estes protect my freight during loading and transit?

Estes delivers a best-in-class loading experience by using captive beam containers and our proprietary Webb wall system—a notched steel wall design that allows freight to be secured at multiple points inside the container.

These tools give our dock teams more flexibility to tightly secure freight, reducing movement during ocean transit. The result is:

» More efficient loading and unloading

» Fewer delays

» A minimized risk of damage

By taking extra care to keep freight firmly in place, we help ensure a safer, more reliable shipping experience every step of the way.

How

do

captive beams and Estes’ proprietary Webb walls work?

Captive beams are built-in, retractable aluminum beams that can move up or down along vertical tracks inside the container’s walls. They are used to create multiple levels or shelves of freight, securing your shipment in place and maximizing vertical space.

Many of our captive beam containers or trailers are also equipped with our best-in-class Webb walls—a proprietary, notched, steel wall system. This innovative design allows us to install logistics bars and straps at any height between our captive beams for unmatched flexibility.

What is Roll-on, Roll-off shipping service?

Roll-on/Roll-off shipping offers efficiency when transporting wheeled cargo, such as vehicles and equipment, by allowing them to be driven directly onto and off the ship, eliminating the need for cranes or specialized equipment.

Will I be able to track my freight while it’s in transit?

Yes. You can track your offshore shipment online the same way you would track any other domestic freight with the PRO, Bill of Lading, Purchase Order, or Interline PRO numbers.

Please note that rough waters, weather, and other factors may impact transit times. Does Estes offer service for volume LTL or truckloads to Alaska?
